Jokic, Doncic, Giannis, Dirk, Rudy and so on, all connected that basketball was basically their job, not, how americans often see it, their purpose. they love their job, but its not the most important thing, but personal growth, happiness and rightfulness. becuase they dont live for their job, but work to afford a good life.

@@the7cs274 sorry, reveiwed what i said in my last comment and a bit of my last thoughts were not clearly written, or got cut off probably. I wanted to say ppl sometimes have someone as their goat and just say right away that they can't see them being overtaken because of immeasurable greatness. I'm just against those ppl mainly, because the way this game grows is incredible, and we see that with lebron arguably possibly passing or at least coming close to the once thought of untouchable point of the goat status held by MJ. Just saying it could be done by anyone, and you never know when that one player comes like bill russell, mj, and lebron, who just become ur barriers to winning chips consistently - as they truly deserve a spot in the GOAT debate. And there for sure will be many more to come, I don't see the NBA living in parity and ultra competitiveness all years long into the future. Someone will come soon and dominate an era again, and it will seem once again as dominant as we used to see by bill russell, mj, bron, etc. By ur comment though, no worries, you seem like ur not one of those guys, since u clearly admitted ur not lol. Just saying there are a lot out there that do not look at it from ur exact viewpoint and just have found "their player" and closed their debate off. e.g Both skip and shannon, stephen a., nick wright, etc. A reason why we should admire ppl like jj redick, charles barkley, shaq existing in NBA media, they are open-minded.

He's very focused and mature. He's bringing that non american attitude about the league. American media wants to make it seem as if sports are bigger than life. All that success/failure narrative. Euro players are not like that, they pay no attention to the noise, just put their heads down and play ball. He's going to be in the perfect environment in SA. Let's just give this kid room and time to grow as we did with Embiid and Giannis, and he will flourish into a dominant player for sure. His mind is in the right place for it.

I think what gives Europeans such a detached attitude is the popularity of basketball in Europe. Especially in France, here the French basketball players are not big stars that we idolize etc. So from what I understand from the USA, even the high school players are stars and known across the country. This environment is bad for young people. This is in my opinion one of the reasons for the progression of non-American players in recent years. What we’re currently seeing from Ja and Zion, its so refreshing to have a potential generational player come from overseas and actually take his day job seriously. The fact that he acknowledges how grateful he is that his job is to play basketball tells us plenty that 1. He wants to do this 2. He’s doing it the right way with the right people around him. Such a blessing he’ll have the great Coach Popavich in ear from day 1. I hope this extends his career, because building around Wemby doesn’t seem difficult.
This kid could be a 20-10 machine from year 1… ridiculous… I know realistically he probably gonna have around 18-8 a night, but if anyone is doing 20-10 a night from the jump, its this kid. The scary part for the NBA is years 3-4-5 when he figures out his role in the league. If he is a true superstar, years 6-7-8 will be Giannis/Jokic level great. Possibly better. I got a ticket for his 2nd game in Vegas and it was outrageous how skilled he is. He's got the ball in his hands as a PG one moment, hitting a 30 footer, a turnaround fade on the baseline, or finding guys for an assist, the next moment he's under the rim blocking shots, rebounding, and being heavily disruptive on D. He's also an EXCELLENT free throw shooter from what I saw so good luck trying to ever get away with a "Hack-A-Shaq" like gameplay. With all that said, what I thought was most impressive is that after the game, he went over to one side of the court (opposite where I was sitting) and took photos/talked to the fans. Seems like a genuinely great kid. I think also the reason he's so good is probably because he doesn't shut it down at any point. I hope he continues with that work ethic and attitude. It's refreshing to see some effort in this day and age where everyone seems to just be wanting to collect an easy paycheck or engage in BS load management during the regular season. I say take the Ohtani route and if he wants to play or thinks he's capable, let him do what he wants as long as he's not feeling any pain. I think he will majorly excel in the NBA not only because of his physical gifts, but also his approach to the game. Best of luck Victor and enjoy the NBA!

One thing you hear in American player interviews is "I will" get a championship "I will be an MVP". We teach our young to have the highest levels of confidence. What you hear from Euro players is "I want to work hard", "I want to succeed at my goals", "I want to make my team and city better". They want to win chips...but they don't put the cart before the horse. They want to do all of the little stuff right, knowing that will add up to their goals.
