EA developing wrestling games is like a nightmare I once had. EA are a money hungry company who make the same game every year, at least 2K actually changed it up this year. However, I truly believe that EA would simply do what they've been doing with games like FIFA and make the same game every year with new attires and roster updates. The gameplay and look of the game wouldn't change. This is the same EA that made FIFA 22 look worse on last gen ON PURPOSE so that people would buy next gen.
Love this review!!!! You hit the nail on the head. And especially with universe mode. I recently got so frustrated with the same cutscenes week after week. And not to mention the cutscene glitches that end up literally preventing you from having a match. More fun to play but damn I hate this game lol

Very thorough review, which I tip my hat to you for putting yourself through lol. I did enjoy it, mildly, but my copy is already sold and shipped to Michigan. I’ll snag it again when it’s under $20.

@@GameDayonYT I think you are correct, but remember, NBA Live didn’t allow you to edit rosters at all in 14 and 15, so don’t overestimate EA’s thoughtfulness 😂
@@LexMarston i talked to another youtuber about the EA rumor and they said its a falsehood they said 2k signed another 5 year contract last prior to wwe2k22 being delayed and he said EA was working on another ufc game
@@davidgreen4282 2K and WWE announced yesterday that they’ll be working together for years to come. However, it’s being reported that WWE and EA did have talks to move the license. Staying with 2K is for the best IMO.

For anyone who does end up reading the ramblings of a salty man, understand these are the issues and gripes that I personally have with WWE 2K22 so please take them as you will.
Now there are definitely some good points to be made about this game, but unfortunately the bad simply outweighs the good and I’m just commenting on the bad for now.
Here’s my list of Issues with WWE 2k22: these are all the things I’ve personally experienced playing the game over the last few weeks, and it’s possible there’s so much more I haven’t yet experienced or seen. Read in the comment section below cause there’s quite a few.
Issue 1: CPU is broken
a. CPU runs circles around active pin + submission situation for unrealistic amount of time or without any attempt at breaking it up. Either that or they don’t react at all, Includes both ref and opponents.
b. CPU not registering active pin or submission situation at all.
c. CPU doesn’t register atrial/springboard attacks mid get up.
d. CPU tag partner doesn’t attempt to enter ring and help against opponent CPU mid pin or submission.
e. CPU not being able to move around the outside of the ring in hell in a cell, or re-entering during pin or submission situation.
Issue 2: Gameplay is broken
a. Player phasing through and onto apron during inside springboard moves.
b. Player inconsistently switching targeting to other CPU without any prompt.
c. Player phasing through ropes and weapons occasionally.
Issue 3: Things that are missing/not working
a. Catching finisher is unusable as it’s doesn’t appear at all.
b. Move thief now only applicable for opponents finisher and not for opponents entire move-set as is in previous games.
c. Head durability missing from attributes settings.
d. Other attributes no longer available, unsure if they’ve been removed or are mistakenly taken off.
e. Veins and body textures disappear when re-editing a custom character.
f. Advanced entrances no longer available.
g. Body part selection when creating a custom character no longer available.
h. Body oil no longer available.
i. Weight selection no longer available, only set when adjusting height with a particular body template.
j. Specific material options for attires no longer available.
Issue 4: things I don’t like/don’t make sense
a. CAW sucks. Skin textures comparable to the synthetics in alien isolation.
b. Only have preset body templates to pick for CAW. No longer have body part selection option.
c. Can no longer customise character weight as it is preset in accordance to the selected body template and height setting.
d. Weight doesn’t match body size, and height at all.
e. Skin tone/colour looks terrible.
f. Many attire items have been unnecessarily split by gender, some items available for both previously are now only available for one gender specifically.
g. A large amount of specific material options for attires have been removed.
h. Game still has attire part clipping, phasing and stretching through different parts.
i. Even though all attires and customisable options are unlocked in my rise you still cannot import or export a CAW.
j. In my rise even if player is champion, player will always come out first in entrances.
k. Most story lines only assessable through social media in my rise, and CPU will repeat entire quests again despite you already talking to them.
l. Unavoidable losses during my rise cutscenes.
m. Cannot edit cutscene attire even though player only wears one outfit throughout every cutscene.
n. Story lines far too short.
o. Entire my rise story made for kids aged 9 below despite game supposedly rated 16+, that gets really repetitive and boring real fast.
p. Mix tag is sexist.
q. Fall back finisher makes no sense.
r. Signature/finisher has no weight limitation irregardless of character strength.
s. Paybacks are now mostly useless in game. Especially resiliency since it can only be used once, and move thief since it’s only applicable to opponents finisher and absolutely no other move in move-set (includes taunts like wtf).
t. Tag team entrances and victories suck.
Cannot make a stable with only one of each gender despite there being mix tag entrance and victory settings available.
u. Cannot edit entrance or victory for team with more than 4 members despite the fact that there are options for both in the settings.
v. Constant glitching during gameplay as well as in entrances and victories.
w. Far few new and good things added to the game for it to be considered a good addition to the 2k franchise.
x. Far too many good things removed from the game that existed in previous instalments.
y. The ruined gm mode, look at how they massacred my boy.
z. And last but not least the game breaking updates that are being implemented currently.
And damn looks like I ran out of alphabet…

While this was a major improvement towards their last game it still lack everything that would be fun or fully expected for a wrestling game in the year of 2022.

Edit edit: I genuinely expected 2K’s version of GM mode to be Universe mode with a limited budget and an opponent. I’m having some fun with the game but am still very disappointed 🤷🏾♂️ and that’s without mentioning how far outdated the game was at release 👀

This game is a 5. They got rid of cool stuff like chain wrestling in the beginning, rest holds, the ability to do moves/Irish whip without doing a non sensical collar and elbow tie up first. They actually took out more than they added.
The only thing new about gameplay is the defense system and combos. The Dodge, and the paper, rock, scissors system, that if successfully performed has every superstar do that spinning back kick to the gut 🤦♂️
Gameplay in general is rubbish. You have to hit a billion finishers to get a pin, so it all comes down to submitting. Reversals are inconsistent, popping up when they want to. Some moves are downright irreversible. Watch TDogs break down of all the cheese this game has.
Speaking of animations.... Its 90% the same ones from before. Including walking and striking. Reversals are even less fitting for wrestlers now, like Austin doing a spinning head scissors. The transitions look even worse because they make you lock up first. *Collision detection is also still bad*
What's up with those ugly looking barrel roll reversals/ getting up super quick after reversing a ground strike they kept in? Or how about still having everyone do that dumb Undertaker get up after kicking out 🤦♂️
No new match types and the old ones haven't really been updated. Other than improved lighting, less bugs and glitches ( *Not by much.Wrestlers legs/ feet twitch in every match* ) it's the same game. Yet they promised a complete change in engine.
"From the ground up" Almost 3 years for this.....
People say that stuff you mentioned in the first paragraph is boring. But what do they want? A spotfest? Everything has to be over the top to be fun. They should've put this style of gameplay in Battlegrounds. Not to mention all that stuff is optional, you're supposed to try to avoid it if you're on the defensive end. If I want to wrestle like Daniel Bryan I should have the option. Wrestling has multiple styles, but yet all this game is in a nutshell is. Strike, strike, strike, grapple repeat.They wasted two years on combos. When all they had to do to impress was get it up to 2K19 standards. Add as many match types, and improve as many matches as possible. And go all in on Universe, and Gm.

frankly i can turn wrestling into a tag team combat sport close to pro roller derby in mdickies wrestling games that's better then myfaction: cpu multi man, iron man scoring system by tags or submission or furniture smash match, with knock out elimination. i just hope mat brings the wargames ring from wrestling revolution for both teams maybe even add the football stadium venue in wrestling empire (think of something like AEW did in stadium stampede).

They limited gm mode so they can advertise that we get multiman match and midcard belts in 2k23 but they didn’t even announce trades so wtf?.. is that in 2k24? ffs… in fact I don’t even know if they straight up said we get more belts i think we just assume it as we have “additional show options now”. Maybe thats trades?! And multiple seasons are confirmed but who wants to PLAY more if it’s just the same gm with stuff that should have been in 2k22 in the first place in a patch. Idk how 2k still got the ability to continue making wwe games.
Well I can't play it as of right now because it keeps on crashing when I select an arena. I learned that it was due to too many downloads, thankfully 2K is trying to fix it ASAP.
Also I called The Good the Bad and the Ugly audio joke when I made the sound with my voice and then the audio played right after lol

He reviewed this mostly likely around launch and that was patched in a few weeks after with the extra match cards and tag team titles. So it would not matter for this review at the time as this was how the mode was presented at launch

I still don't like how they took away intergender wrestling since SmackDown vs Raw 2010(?) and have not brought it back since. Hell, I was kinda hoping for it to return in 2K Battlegrounds.
I think this might be something that WWE wants implemented in their games. Don't think 2K can do anything about it, though I do agree.

Thank you! When I search "GameDay" the channel comes up, but none of my videos. What I think the problem is the term GameDay is associated with college sports/nfl. So my stuff can get drowned. It is unfortunate. admittedly when I thought of the name of the channel I just liked how snappy it sounded and didn't put much thought into discoverability.

really hope another company takes over the licensing for WWE games, this was 2K's final straw for me and i feel disappointed yet again. There won't be a great WWE 2K game if they keep recycling the same trash but change the engine and if they fix things over here break things over there type shi... even in creations, they removed some of the smallest details like mirroring the entire face in face deformation but only being able to mirror the eyes and eyebrows.. such a small detail yet they had to fk with it!!???! 2K19 is still the best to come out for 2k and maybe i am different than most players but idc about the graphics being 10/10.. I rather have great gameplay, great stories, and great customization over a game that took 2 years to focus on graphics and a new engine.
The controls are easier now. Just sayin....

They should leave well enough alone and stick with 2k. EA can't release a good madden, a wrestling game would be way over their heads. WWE should instead insist on having a wwe video games creative director role like AEW has with Kenny Omega and let Xavier Woods or another video game playing superstar on the roster keep eyes on 2k and make sure they're not just half baking these games.

00:40 THAT only applies to the Ingame Characters. CAW looks awful and that is because they minimized CAW creation to minimum! Catastrophic! For me, WWE 2k22 is the worst 2k Game I played and I play since 2k15!

I ONLY play Universe Mode...I think until 2k 19 I never laid a finger on showcase Mode...never played online...all this setting for universe Mode and CAW creation, THAT are the two funfactors of this Game...or more..were...because in 2k20, they fed both of them up by changing many little things that make it lame!
But i am coming fromn TEW and EWR, Wrestling Simulator Games. For me its more the booking, when i play universe Mode, i play 1 out of 200 Matches I set, the rest i just simulate.
If I would play like you people and play this Game really for the fights, I guess I would have stopped playing 2k games inthe first 5 minutes of playing 2k15 and would have switched to UFC or Mortal Kombat or STreetfighter or Tekken or something else that is not repetetive and lame like this Games are...

This CPU only does garbage, your Universe Mode doesnt work when you dont edit stuff...for example when you start, the first 10 shows, YOU make ALL matches...so that rivalries that you want can build and those that you dont want never happen etc!

You should really play EWR or TEW to get an understanding what a REAL Wrestling Simulator has to look like. This Manager Simulator Version as Universe Mode in Combo with 2ks best CAW Stuff , THAT would be the stuff Dreams are made of.
Imagine:
You book 3 hours of Raw, including all Promos, Advertising etc. like in TEW...the you play the single segments, how ever you want. Your gameplay is recorded. After all matches are done you can edit it all together and upload it and anothe rGuy can watch a 30 minutes Video of you simulating a 3 Hour Raw...
Would work also if you take EWRevenge instead of TEW, then it wouldnt be a 3 Hour Raw whwere you set yourself how many minutes a segment goes but just a show with 12 Slots
for either Match, Promo or Angle...
it would be so amazing and so far better than anything ever done!
