2. I found the option to fix jumping in SSX. It's called "Pro" Controls. It should be on by default because there's nothing "Pro" about limiting your movement in my humble opinion.

The PS3 SSX is far too underated just like Twisted Metal PS3. I wish we had a remaster like Tony Hawk.

A note on use of blood type in video games:
In Japan blood type equates to astrological symbol. Only instead of saying he’s such a Scorpio they’re saying he’s such an O-positive. It’s a superstitious and colloquial way of expressing a personality type.

In my personal opinion SSX3 is still the best snowboarding videogame of all time.
i think the reason the restart button wasn't there was because the first SSX game was originally an arcade game transferred to console and they neglected to add it
actually if you get enough points you go straight to the final round in trick events...you don't have to do the semi-final...so you only do it twice.
On xbox one x and series X SSX3 is in widescreen at 4k 60fps. Closest we are gonna get to remaster.

I also hated the lack of a restart feature in the first game. But I actually prefer a lot of the tracks to tricky. And the more colorful lighting
Supposedly the devs eschewed a lot of the ps2 original's lighting and particle effects for Tricky so it would run better on all 3 consoles. Hence the change in aesthetic. A lot of people prefer the look of the original, despite it being inferior in most metrics

I think a lot of the over-hype for SSX 1 was because it was a PS2 launch title and people were just very excited. If it was the year 2000 and you were coming from a PS1, SSX was amazing
SSX was not overhyped. Keep in mind most people got their info from Magazines back then. The hype machine of social media wasn't there to do that.
It seems like this CZcamsr doesn't understand why SSX 1 was a hit because he's looking at it from a modern perspective. It was part of the PS2 launch excitement and it was many people's first game of the 6th gen. You just had to be there

i would beg to differ on "not show off personality" each character is loaded with personality and that is why SSX was so unique...they gave every character so much focus and life of there own (unlike other sports games out there where characters are as bland as bread and butter). Especially if you do a little research, i'll give a few examples:
Mac Fraser (15): Mac is your stereotype snowboarder and skateboarder from New York, he is all about the style and tricks and loves music, despite his young age he is confident and VERY talented. Apparently you have to be 16 to enter SSX...they made an exception for him because he was so skilled.
Elise Riggs (23): Beautiful and fast, Canadian born Elise is a surfer and model among many other things, her mind set is she can win because there is no other option...a diamond hard focus.
Kaori Nishidake (16): Kaori is rapidly becoming one of Japan's biggest stars, she is fun loving, fashion conscious and very talented. She is essentially a female Mac, amazing with tricks.
Moby Jones (17): Moby is British-Trinidadian and hails from Brixton (London), he is from the BMX scene and wants to take that skill into snowboarding...he loves dangerous riding.
Zoe Payne (19): Zoe is...unique in a fair few ways, she loves anything that puts in the wind in her hair, dirt bike and motocross top the list...snowboarding is her new interest.
JP Arsenault (25): There has to be one jerk in every game, JP is that guy, he has a lot of talent in tricks, but he is spoiled and rich and a bit of a narcissist. To be fair they explain his problem very well (parental issues).
JP Is me, minus the narcissism and wealth 😂
@@titaniumcranium3755 i honestly felt JP never got much credit...i like playing as him in most SSX games. i use his skin in SSX 3 and i created him in OT using the character creation.
@IDyce88 I play him in ssx3 as well! My joke was I'm like JP with the parental issues minus the money and attitude, but now that I say it like that I guess it sounds kinda sad lol. JP ftw!
@@titaniumcranium3755 they never really addressed something when it came to SSX 3; everyone was under the impression that all the new characters were American aside from Viggo (who was Swedish). And some people i even know today felt that was kind of bias towards USA. But actually there is something a lot of people don't know about Allegra...she actually has French heritage, even though she is American technically...which is why a lot of clothing has french references (like the arm band). not to mention her surname is sauvagess which is actually French (even though not many people picked up on that). a lot of people were complaining how we never got a another french character until SSX 2012.
@IDyce88 I also noticed that Allegra had French bands as accessories and her French last name as well. Another interesting thing about Allegra is that she is bipolar and the only other character besides Psymon to have a mental illness. I assume that this was done to fit the whole French people are crazy stereotypes, although she wouldn't be the first because another French character in another extreme sports game (JetX20) named Luc Lamouche is implied to have dementia. Allegra's favorite food is also caffinated burritos, which I find not only absurd but also probably unhealthy and even impossible. She also somehow likes boys and would want one as a riding partner while also hating boys, which I guess is rather normal for girls in real life, but then I figured out that she likes to wear boy underwear (boxers, small to be specific) which is kinda odd, and DJ Atomika says that she breaks most of her new boards and is close to breaking 350 of them. In short, Allegra sounds like a hack.
Best review of SSX games I've ever watched! You made me realise that the only SSX game I need to play is Tricky because that's the one which appears to suit my tastes ...
PS:- I know that you're only reviewing EA Sports Big games which come under the category of over the top and extreme racing games. One game which I would suggest you try out is Downhill Domination on PS2. It would be nice to watch your review on that as well. It's not from EA though.
The fantastical stages are pretty unique for snowboarding games and those give it a lot of charm
Just a note: GameCube games regularly loaded faster than their ps2 & xbox counterparts. I remember the loading times on ps2 being quick-ish but not anything near instant
I was never into the SSX games. I was a Coolboarders 2 kid. And there was an ESPN-branded game that I played a ton, too. I’ll have to revisit that at some point.
The thing I remember most about SSX was that G4 commercial where the dude talks about his world record.
I was the 1080 snowboarding kid. Before doing this video, the only thing I knew of SSX was the fact that it had Tricky by Run DMC in it. I thought that song was specially made for the game as a kid.
Gameday's videos are the only videos from a content creator i click the like button before i click "Skip Ad" to start watching.
I played SSX3 so many hours with my little Brother. Crazy, thats almost 20 years now. How time flies... :(

SSX was one of the 1st games I got for the PS2 and SSX3 is one of my favourite games ever. I would really love a reboot of the series.
Btw when grinding in ssx tricky, I feel your pain that sometimes you get projected because it kinda bugs, my trick was to do a little jump before getting on the rail, also always turn your board sideways to get more stability. There is another map in ssx tricky that you skip that is real important, it's not a racing map, but you do need to have completled all races to unlock it. The map is called untracked and as the name suggests, it doesn't have a track. You are place on the top of a mountain and it's a free open ride. I think it was the inspiration for ssx3 but that is just my opinion.
the urgency that Restarts and fast loading provide is always the most underappreciated part of any game
The ssx franchise as a whole is worth saving. Need it to end up in a “collection” like halo. Imagine being able to play tricky or ssx3 online. It would be legit

@@jdn5593 trust me, there is plentyyyy to do. So many characters to be added that weren’t. Board designs, outfits. Trust me, there is plenty that can be done. But @ea wasted their time on the wrong things
SSX 3 is the greatest game of all time to me. It always sparks joy and I've replayed it dozens of times on several console generations. Kinda wish there'd be a true direct sequel to 3 with a new mountain to conquer.

So I’ve been home for a bit and all I have here is my PS2. So I dug 3 out and I can’t believe I never noticed the heat system makes zero sense. As someone who’s become more completionist/beat challenges, it’s kind of infuriating lol. I probably just took the silver back then and never noticed.
Hell yeah! I barely played the first two since playing them a bit in McDonald's, but I grew up with SSX 3. The best snowboarding game.

dittoing this. I would love to see Gameday do a dedicated series of him playing NBA Ballers. NBA Ballers for PS2 is probably one of the 3 games i played the most in my life. Just hearing Gameday's reaction to bouncing a ball off some dudes forehead would be worth the price of admission alone.

In SSX3 if you get a high enough score in the first qualifier, you skip the second one, as the sum of the 2 first is counted. Typically a first place in the first qualifier guarantees that to happen

I grew up with these games. When the first one came out, it was the first of its kind and a lot better to gamers then as apposed to gamers taste now. It peaked with 3 then started going down hill from there. The 2012 reboot wasn't a bad game but it didn't quite feel like a proper SSX game to original fans. For whatever reason they decided to make it more realistic which took away a lot of the charm that the series was known for.
The first SSX has been made 90% obsolete by Tricky. All was needed to make it 100% would have been adding the original tracks to Tricky, as bonus alternate versions of the Tricky tracks.
SSX 1 is my childhood ;) .. and its awesome. I have hundreds if not thousands of hours on that game

I recently got all achievements on retroachievements for the original ssx & I have to disagree with you about the controls, they're hard to get used to yeah but once you do master them the game feels really good, I can consistently grind any rail I want to, just takes practice. Which imo is more satisfying than a game thats easy to pick up and play, high skill ceilings are cool. The lack of a restart button is shitty & its even more ridiculous that during freeride mode or whatever under single event there is one. & that the only reward you get for completing the trick book for a character is a blue circle around their icon on the CSS & that all of the tricks listed are completely wrong for Hiro. Overall I'd say its THPS but more of a pain in the ass because you can't turn around, you're basically constantly drifting, and you can't turn while prewinding. you turn slow as fuck with pro mode turned on too & doing spinning flips becomes more confusing so its better to just get used to the standard controls. & that bumping into pretty much anything will send you tumbling & that they decided to put posts on either side of the glass of every shortcut that are easy to bump into. But getting good at the game is very satisfying so if you have the patience to get skilled its fun

I feel like 1st SSX was going for a challenge/reward feel, no restart option, no freestyle board for Jurgen, no BX for Hiro & no Alpine for Kaori/JP/Zoe, no Ubers, no seriously blatant rubber banding, AI always shoving you (& the only SSX game where the CPU shove each OTHER!) & courses weren’t restricted by woke.

I see people asking for a remaster of SSX3. meanwhile it's in 4K 60 on XSX and X1X and of course its the same or better? On PC emulation.
Though the Xbox controls are definitely not as good given the Og Xbox controller didn't have bumpers and the buttons are configuring a way that they don't translate 1:1 now that all controllers have bumpers.
SSX isn't a trilogy...it has five games:
SSX
SSX Tricky (1 year after SSX)
SSX 3 (2 years after Tricky)
SSX On Tour (2 years after SSX 3)
SSX 2012/ Deadly Descent (2 years after SSX On Tour)
There was also SSX Blur for the Nintendo Wii but EABig said that was non-canon in terms of story and character development (ages, friendships etc...) it was more just made for fun and to see how SSX did with motion controls...IMO it failed. I'm a HUGE SSX fanboy and have been from the beginning. I know almost everything there is to know about the series. Each SSX takes place one or two years after the previous. SSX 2012 technically is a reboot but it makes no sense...the ages are all wrong and they claim SSX stands for Snowboard, Surfing and Motocross (because the founders did those sports)...which is dumb...it stood for Snowboard Super Cross (X) that was what the original SSX game said as well...so i'm sticking with the fact it's 2 years after OT.
Tokyo Megaplex was the best level of all 3x games.
