    Just got a swing camera and went to the range. Couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. Bang. Standing up and straightening my right arm. Saved me hours on the range trying to diagnose myself.

    I think you really identified my issue, and many others, trying to swing your arms at the ball. You clearly demonstrated by keeping the arm bent and not straightening at impact, rotating the body for speed, and compressing the ball that creates the ball speed. I don't think this is talked about or stressed enough.
    So I did just that and with a half swing I was hitting it just as far as I would with my old full swing. 💥

      I think i need to follow this modern tips , because i always had right arms straight before impact, the feeling is good and the ball is far but i cant figure why my shot 95% going left draw thats a bad thing because the longer the club the more it goes left

    Like you said at the beginning of the video “it’s been staring me in the face”. I watched this and practiced it. Something just clicked and my swing is on point now. I am able to maintain posture and have added a ton of power.

    Yes! This provides such a powerful feel. As you drive the hips though impact the bent right arm brings the strike. What a valuable observation, thank you.

    I know you need to dish these pearls in bite-size pieces but here I felt you had the opportunity to talk about something I've discovered on bowing the wrist, i.e. how to get the hands in front of the club. The stability you get in the club face from holding the elbow (or not throwing it towards the ball) requires that extended right wrist. This is how I feel the bowed wrist too and explains why it's so important as well because the elbow needs to maintain its bend, as you say here.

    Arms are slightly bent, not fully bent usually. Really depends on height of player, club length, and swing speed. The key is to just hit the ball bent over and keep that posture. Don't focus so much on arms as it will occur naturally.

      Yes I found this out at the range yesterday. I have never pured as many shots as when I stayed in posture through the swing. I watched some of the pro's video and realized they all do it.

  • @miked.7722

    really good swing thought and well put together. It could be the other way around , like if you stay in posture your right arm will be bent. BUT it is a great way to look at it. If you the right arm stays bent you will not early extend. Or if you don't early extend the right arm will stay bent. I AM going to try using this as a swing thought if I am having trouble staying down with he ball. GOOD JOB!

    Howdy from Texas, JD. Love your videos.
    I assume you believe rotation is the key power source in the swing. Where do you rank the HINGING of the wrists for power??
    Lots of on-line instructors talk about the hinging of the wrists as "L" to "L" . Do you use your wrists in this way?? Or, do you have a different approach??
    I'm a 60 y.o golfer and maybe my wrists might help me more than I use them now. How does your right wrist work and still keep your right arm bent???

    I never had to much problems with distance but once I switched to the lag I lost a ton of power bc it was totally different from what I was using to. I literally got worse almost to where I felt like I just started playing 17 yrs later lol

    I am having the problem that my swing looks good on video, feels good, but where I am hitting the ball is millimeters different each time and causing problems. Do you have any tips on hitting in the exact same spot consistently?

  • @timothyslaughter476
    @timothyslaughter476 Před 11 měsíci

    As usual golf confounds us. The powerful feel seems to stretch those arms out and pound it. NOPE!!!! The bent right arm is key. Its an illusion even with players that do it properly because it certainly looks as if tge right armnis straight at impact. Especially from certain angles. Gotta really key on it to see it. But yeah it supports the club and builds tension and lag. It's like being able to throw my entire right side into the shot with the added rotation thats required. Side bend gets us to the ball really consistently. I love those drills but it really takes time. I started with the ball teed low and just got used to the feel. Just focused on that right arm keeping it loose and bent all the way through the strike. Really solid shots within a few practice sessions. But its a rebuild because so many years I did it wrong. Makes me realize how and why the flip is so dreaded. But again a counterintuitive aspect because you can't imagine the bent right arm is correct. Great video. Thank you.

    Seems to me that if you keep the right elbow close to the hip and the right arm bent, won’t that almost automatically guarantee you a little side bend too which keeps you in the right posture? All the tour pros seem to be in the same position at impact and hopefully we can get there too..thanks

    • @michaeldodd6864
      @michaeldodd6864 Před 10 měsíci

    Warning i improved dramatically after doing right arm only swings and strikes But i think you have to be strong in the arm as club is heavy and arm is in weak position, easy to injure yourself.Stupidly i learnt to do left arm only swings and strikes years b4 right arm only even tho im right handed
