This song got me through one of the darkest times of my life. I first saw this performed live in Las Vegas at the Adobe Summit before the movie came out and I remember thinking "what a catchy song. I'm going to download that when it comes out." I couldn't really hear the lyrics. Little did I know what was about to happen.
Then my wife was hospitalized for psychosis with spiritual delusion, I lost trust in a God, my own brain went haywire and I couldn't even get myself to leave my house some days. I went from a high functioning professional to an anxious mess (just like Will Smith's character in the movie). Then the song and the movie came out and the lyrics made me weep so hard while driving one day that I had to pull over. I am in a better place now. Much more light in my life. My wife is fine. I don't have anxiety like I used to. I'm still hopeful for a higher benevolent power. But I needed to "say all the things I couldn't before" before I could get to the healing.

Maybe they've never one a grammy but the grammies are a bunch of bs just like Rock and Roll Hall of Shame! One Republic can write their own ticket and tour around the world. Their beautiful music transcends awards and 'pop' recognition. But it does bother me too that so many great bands don't get the credit they deserve.

Whenever I hear this song, i flashback to a really dark time of my life.
I had gotten into a really big fight with my friends and we cut off all contact. two weeks later, I couldn't stand it, so I told them to meet me at an abandoned barn we used to play in as kids. They all arrived and no one talked. I went around and locked all the doors and started singing this acapella because this song was very special to us. When our parents realized where we were, they drove over. They found us all sitting in they hay singing our childhood songs. By some coincidence, this was the song they walked in on. If my besties see this, I love you guys.
