I remember when I first got a voice teacher, this was the first song he helped me learn to sing. I was so proud of myself for being to hold out on some of those long notes. Now, 4-ish years later, I’ve been in chorus for 3.5 years, and those notes are barely an inconvenience anymore. Everything about this video has touched my heart. My mother died last month, and we were extremely close. We watched this video together when it came out last year and spend a good ten minutes crying together. She had cancer for a long time. I am turning 15 this year and it’s going to be hard navigating life without her. We got her a blue urn to put her in, and I just made a connection. There are four birds on it. Three of them are going one way, and one is going the other, and I like to think of that one as my mom. My dad, sister and I are going one way, and she is flying the other. So every time I hear these lyrics, I just burst into tears. Thank you for everything you did with this video. It’s a beautiful reminder that I will see her again.

This song was one of my husband's favorite songs. My husband just passed away very late on a Monday. Hearing this song again brings me to tears. Even though it's only been a couple of days I can still feel your presence next to me. You had to go and fly away to start a new journey. A new chapter in your life that doesn't include me. A road that you must take alone until we meet again. I know that we will be together again because the love we shared for one another is so strong and powerful that nothing in this world and the next could ever destroy what we have. I have always felt somehow weird (like almost everyone). This feeling, sometimes being my physical appearance and my thoughts, has never ceased to exist. Though I have been practicing compassion now for three consecutive years, I still find it hard to be compassionate about.
This is our song. My mom and me. I know for sure that she has been feeling the same way since her childhood. How? It can not be explained with words. I just know deep down.
She used to clean our home every day. With some kind of anger, she was moving around the house. I could not quite understand if she was cleaning the house, or taking a grudge from someone. Herself possibly.
She used to wake up at 5 am in the morning. With some kind of sadness, she was cooking the meals for the day. I could not quite understand if she was cooking the meal, or being busy cause she could not sleep.
She used to leave our home for no reason and come back without explaining why she left. I, once the little girl, am still carrying the fear of being abandoned.
I used to blame her for everything she had and had not done, to me, and to us.
Blaming was really easy, actually. I sometimes wish to go back to the blaming phase.
At this point, though, I am not able to blame her. I clearly see and know all the emotions and habit energies she should've felt while doing those things. I myself am experiencing those first hand.
I am surprised how a person who has been practicing mindfulness and compassion for this long is not able to deal with those challenging energies (I am not using the word "feeling" on purpose, this is not "feeling", this is an intense, strong "energy"). This energy is pulling me in the same direction my mother took. And I am pushing back being afraid to turn to her.
Maybe that, being her, is not such a bad thing, is it? Anyway, I am tired of all this fight and I am surrendering (not "I decided to surrender" but "I am surrendering with helplessness" or "I have no other alternative).

When this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and then jail. I now have a house, job, and husband. This song and “Clover Cage - In the Moment” are the two songs that helped get rid of my depression.
