    Crazy to think this kid threw in the same area code as Chapman’s #s at 18. Only 3-4mph off from the 106!

    Update! He did not get picked up during rule 5 draft but also was not added to the rocky’s 40 man. Very curious at what will happen with him. Sounds like teams agreed to lay off him despite him not making the 40 man.

    You should do one on Ashe Russell and Nolan Watson. Two Indianapolis area high school pitchers selected in the 1st round by KC in 2015. 23 and 24, respectively, Russell has never made it out of Rookie ball and Watson never above High A.

    Played this kid in sub state, coach told me to crowd the plate, I looked at him like he’d lost his mind. I crowded the plate, got hit in my tricep. On the bright side my right arm looked huge but after this, I never crowded the plate on a pitcher throwing upper 90s. No I wasn’t much of a hitter, yes we were shut out that game.

    I played with Riley on that Mac N Seitz team you see early in the video (I was just out of frame at 2B), and it was unbelievable watching him pitch. Every time he'd take the mound, there would be 20 NCAA and MLB scouts in the stands. On defense, you mostly just got to sit back and relax knowing nobody was going to touch him. He was a great teammate, and I'm glad to see he finally made his MLB debut!

    Hopefully the dodgers manage to get a hold of him. They are really good when it comes to developing and could help Pints career. Plus there would be no pressure for him to come up fast since the dodgers are loaded with talent.

    It’s the same story with all these guys. Young hard thrower, no polish, walks too many, gets injured, loses velocity and never to be heard from.

      @@baseballprospectanalysis agreed. Baseball’s “game within the game” is the easiest to overlook because it’s predicated on failure. Fail 7/10 times over your career and you’re a Hall of Famer. Sometimes failure leads us to success because we learn to use it as feedback for our betterment. Riley has a good head on his shoulders; he can do this.

    I think he’s just still getting comfortable with his body. Seemed he was still growing in his professional career, and 6’7” is a lot of body to move around! No sense in having him as a starter right now. Have him develop mentally and physically in the bullpen and he could end up on a big league roster in a couple years.

      Nothing humbles yuh like a kid throwing 10mph faster than your fastest pitcher😂. I still remember the sinking feeling of watching Braxton Garret absolute dice a team in front of me sitting 88-90 his sophomore year.

  • @commiehunter733
    @commiehunter733 Před 2 lety

    A trick to add 2-3 mph on your fastball, is make the mound taller and steeper. I normally threw 90-93 but jumped to 95🔥🔥🔥. Now it was harder to control, cuz it felt I was falling off the mound every pitch

    • @baseballprospectanalysis
      @baseballprospectanalysis  Před 7 měsíci

    • @baseballprospectanalysis
      @baseballprospectanalysis  Před 7 měsíci

      While I agree with you for the most part. In today’s game, no team/org is scouting a guy in college throwing 85-88. To be a major or minor league pitcher in 2024 you must throw at least 90. Realistically sit 90-92 touching 94 minimum. Not saying it’s right, it’s just where the game is going.

    Sorry to say this but thats what happenes when you prefer velocity to control, you can even throw 250 mph, but if you can throw it in the zone it's not better than a 25 mph fastball

    • @baseballprospectanalysis
      @baseballprospectanalysis  Před 3 lety +1

      Wasn’t the right fit for me. Struggled big time with arm pain and wasn’t the right scenery for me. Lots of a talent there though! For me my mental maturity level and other factors made me transfer from there early. My fastball also dipped from low 90s to mid to high 80’s there due to arm struggles which didn’t help at all lol.

    There were plenty of 16 year olds throwing 90 in 2014. Not sure where that idea comes from.

      @baseballprospectanalysis  Před 3 lety +1

      If you look at showcase numbers for ages 15-16 (sophomores) in pre 2014, and compare them to 2020, it’s not even close. Plenty more 90+ sophomores in today’s game. Not saying there weren’t any back then, but they were much more rare than now a days. Sources: perfectgame and PBR. Especially in the Midwest.
