In the 1970s, young Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie-street-preacher. In 1973 my wife's sister kept bugging her to come to a tent in a bean field in Costa Mesa to hear a preacher named Chuck teach the bible and hear some Christian rock/folk music. When the band played she recognized them: it was the Road Home and she had danced to their music at a nightclub in Newport Beach previously. She was shocked to see them in this tent. She was a cocktail waitress at the Red Onion restaurant in Palos Verdes at that time and we were dating. When she told me she got "born again" that night in the tent I was blindsided because she was somewhat of a hellraiser and the change was a dramatic 180 degrees. We got married and spent the next 39 years learning the gospel from Pastor Chuck until his very last time in the pulpit in 2013.

I'm actually being taught the gospel by a pastor Chuck Smith took under his wing Jack Hibbs and I had to drive past Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa to check out the LA Chargers during training camp.
I was there in the tent 1970, a hippy with long hair in Costa Mesa Cali. Was baptized in the ocean by Chuck Smith. It was a rich spiritual experience for sure. will always have fond memories of that time. Love Song Band, Lonnie Frisbe, etc
Jesus is still doing miracles. He saved me from suicide and gave me meaning and hope in my darkest of valleys. He is alive and can turn any life into something precious and above all He loves you.

My heart is singing! I was one of those Jesus Hippies/Jesus Freaks that was changed by the love & power of Jesus through His Holy Spirit! I gave my life to Him over 50 years ago when I was just 18 yrs old and looking for the answers in life. Andre Crouch had a song that said it all! "JESUS IS THE ANSWER"! No one loves the true Jesus in their unregenerate state. We are haters of God outside of him taking out our heart of stone & giving us a heart of flesh.
“Everyone” loves the feel good Jesus presented in films like these. That is true.
The true Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is the second person of the Trinity. God is perfectly holy. We are not. We are sinners from conception and God’s wrath abides on us in our natural state.
But Jesus the Son took on flesh and dwelt among us and lived the perfect life in our place. Fulfilling the law. He died the death we all deserve, taking the full wrath of God on the cross for our sins.
We are forgiven when we repent of our sin and put our faith in THIS Jesus.
Then we are born again and are clothed in the perfect righteousness of Christ. He takes our sin, we get his righteousness. Outside of this we are under the wrath of God and will spend eternity in Hell.
Repent and believe in the true Christ, not the feel good, fake Christ this movie portrays.

When I was your age, I also did a lot of worldly things and most of them I am not proud of bec they brought me to a spiral of darkness and purposelessness. But Christ redeemed me, brought me to life and freed me from depression, resentments and many things that enchains me. Christ gave me peace and joy in my heart. He is indeed so powerful. I hope and pray many people will know Christ and that He will reveal Himself to them. His love and amazing grace is beyond I can describe.

I saw this movie today. When it ended I went to the bathroom and just started sobbing. I came home, lay on my bed, and sobbed more. Now I'm tearing up writing this. It's been a while since something affected me like this.

It is a rare thing when:
a) I watch a movie in a theatre; and
b) I can't think of anything negative about the film.
I give it a solid grade of "A". This movie is a must watch, especially during this time period of negativity and possible revival. Let's flood the theatres with people and support it! Praise the LORD for this production!

I haven't seen the movie, so I can't speak to that as what we need in today's time. I'm sure it's a great movie and provokes fond memories and wonderful feelings, but that's not what we need. Feelings and emotions are fleeting and untrustworthy. We're living in the midst of an evil and wicked generation. The love of Jesus Christ, the only Way to our Heavenly Father, (John 14:6) is most desired and welcomed, but what we need now is what God desires and says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."...That's what He is waiting for. Perhaps this movie and revivals that are going on presently, are His last call before He shuts the door and says, "Depart from Me, I never knew you." Matthew 7:21-23

@@ViscountVile I don't know. It spanned over several years though. But initially the "Jesus Movement" began in 1969-1970 with Hippies who became Christians.

I got to watch this movie yesterday, a surprise early preview. It is absolutely incredible! It definitely speaks to our generation today, and it’s very similar to how I believe we need to be reaching out to the new age group. They are eagerly searching for love, and for truth, just in all the wrong places. Come, Lord Jesus, come!

I’m inclined to agree with you, that it’s happening again after enjoying it throughout the seventies. Of course it’s different this time & I’m a 61 year old woman now, but definitely a follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ. Wouldn’t take anything for my personal relationship with Him, although I don’t try to force my beliefs on anyone else. God gave each of us free will, so it’s as simple as choosing to accept Him or not. I’m sure happy that I did several years ago bc He’s my best friend in good times and bad. At this time in my life, I would almost be alone without Him, although most years with Him I was surrounded by diverse people bc I don’t judge anyone; it’s not my job. Haha I can’t even judge myself, so trying to live up to my potential is a full time job that I won’t win at bc it’s too late in life. Makes me even more grateful for Him bc He loves me regardless of my short comings, not because of them. So I can keep trying to be more like Him anyway, until I leave this world, and hopefully help someone else in some way before I go. Gee I hope that you are right! Would love to see it again; a great wave of Love sweeping across the world like it did in the seventies. That time proved Love conquers all, and I’ve been concerned it would be forgotten as many have been trying to erase it from history. I ended up in a bean field too in July of 1978 (Jesus Northwest), a concert prepared for about 5000 for 3 days camping......40k showed (hence, spilling into the bean field).....never seen a group so convinced of Jesus Christ, so convinced (the last night) of sin while Keith Green preached (hard).....I was a 19 year old kid, my life changed radical, even to this day...have you ever seen 40,000 people cry?

My dad worked for Chuck Smith and God used him as my mentor the first decade of my life and Greg Laurie is such a beloved part of the Body at our Calvary Chapel, I'm so unbelievably psyched that this testimony is being released! Correct, there's no such thing as a person who isn't a product of the fallen world's deceit to be inevitably and consistently susceptible to detriments, so yes loving your neighbor would be rather impossible if you hated anyone who ever sinned.
However real love has the ability to see all the true dimeinsions of your neighbor and still be an advocate for their ultimate success rather than just accepting their places of decay.

It was so fun to be a part of the Christians to watch that movie!

My older sister was part of this, and it changed her life in many wonderful ways. I wish I had understood it better at that time. My sister died in 1983, but I know that she's a big reason that I found Jesus later in life.
Raised in Huntington Beach and a neighbor took my sisters and I (I was 9 or 10) to the Big Tent and we sat on the ground up front. I remember the music and the crowds. A couple years later a neighbor boy led me to Christ in his driveway after shooting hoops. What a time it was! That shot of the actress playing Greg’s future wife smiling through the fence makes you feel young again. So sweet!

It's a film about religion and faith.......
But when you strip all of that away, its really a film about loving yourself and loving others. A film about trying to figure out where you belong in the world and what is your place in this beautiful world!

Pastor Chuck had a huge impact on my life spiritually as a very young Christian believer in Jesus. As a young Army officer stationed on the DMZ in Korea in 1977, me and two other soldiers used to sit and listen to Chuck's bible teachings on cassette tapes. He was and still is a mentor to me in and through his books, teachings and through "The Word for Today Bible". I thank God for the ministry of Pastor Chuck Smith. What a blessing he was to so many. Moreover I loved Maranatha Music and all of the early Christian music scene...Bethlehem, Mustard Seed Faith, Chuck Girard and so many more. I look forward to seeing this movie; it looks great from the trailer.

Our country is still a dark and divided place that still needs Jesus. A lot of great Christian music came out of this movement--new updated Christian music that drew people to Jesus Christ.
Kelsey Grammer stars as Minister Chuck Smith who presides over the Calvery Chapel in Southern California. It is his best work ever as an actor.....Add a fabulous 60's & 70's soundtrack and the film is a winner.....Kelsey helps form & shape a young Greg Laurie into what he is today, Senior Pastor of Harvard Christian Fellowship in Riverside, CA....All the major actors are superb which make this an inspirational & heartwarming film for all ages from children to adults to view....At the end the response was spontaneous as the audience stands up & applauds....A standing ovation well deserved!....Philly rates "Jesus Revolution" 10 Stars!
I was going to watch this excellent movie for the second time this afternoon. Problem was that the next two scheduled performances were sold out and I didn't really believe it at first, I figured I needed to refresh the touch-screen with the seating choices but no, no available seating. And I went home happy about that, actually, fantastic to see so many people discovering this chronicle of the Jesus Movement. And I got saved in '74 at the age of 14 after a summer of listening to KFAX in San Francisco and I have to give a nod of appreciation to a girl at school who was a smiling Jesus freak like all the time. I moved away shortly after getting saved, my travel-crazy Dad got a job in Europe, but I'm sure she was still letting her light shine for the Lord at Oceana High in Pacifica. 😀
Although the journey has at times been rough, I have been a devoted follower of Jesus for a bit over 27 years. Pastor Chuck (I miss you so much), Pastor Raul Reis & Pastor Greg Laurie have been my radio/internet guides all through those years. I am nowhere near where I want to be in my walk with Jesus. Someday I hope to attend services in their beloved churches and hear them speak in person- Pastor Brodersen as well. I know the story and have heard it numerous times. Watching the trailer & seeing it presented in movie format is going to be special. I can feel the tears already. This is going to awesome! Thank You Lord!

I had no idea about this movie until today (3/7/23). I was a teenager in the early 90's, and I remember going to the Harvest Crusade in Anaheim back in 92, 93 and maybe 94. I moved to Oregon in 94 at the age of 15, and here I am at 43 and I still remember those events quite vividly. I will checking out this movie for sure!

Something that’s not lost on me. Jesus said “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” And here they have Jesus from the Chosen knocking to let Jesus into his church.
Sometimes I think some of the churches in North America wouldn't have let in Jesus Himself because he was not rich (by Earthly standards), non-white and an oddity to them. They're fine with His teachings, but embracing others that don't look like them or speak like them seems to be an issue in some churches (not all, ofc).

I remember hearing about The Jesus Revolution from my parents and when I first saw The Jesus Revolution on CZcams it was incredible. I once made a christian short film that took place in The Jesus Revolution called Flowers of Hope and I hope, pray, and believe that another Jesus Revolution will happen again, because that's what are world needs.
It only takes a spark to get a fire going.....and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing.....that's how it is with God's love---once you've experienced it--you want to sing--it's fresh like spring--you want to pass it on.

It was also called the Jesus People movement and I was part of it in 1972 as an 8 year old. It was truly the strangest thing to see all these hippies really loving Jesus. I didn't quite understand what was going on at the time but I finally truly came to the Lord in 1980 at 16 after much wandering. I am still serving the Lord after all these decades later and I wouldn't give it up for anything this world has to offer.
I grew up in the 80’s going to Harvest and Greg being our pastor my whole life. I can’t wait to see this movie.
This movement had a giant impact on my life. After growing up in a church that didn't really preach the Bible, someone opened the scriptures for me, and I met Jesus in 1971. For almost 30 years I wandered from church to church, never finding one that exactly followed the Bible as I had come to understand it after receiving Christ. Then in 2000, I was invited to Calvary Chapel by one of their pastors. What Calvary was teaching was exactly what I believed and was searching for. Today, I am one of three elders in a small Calvary Chapel fellowship in rural Utah. I can't wait to see this picture. However, because of the dominance of the regional religion, it won't be shown locally. I'll either be making a long drive or waiting for the video release. But still, I can't wait.

I am a freshman college student, and I can tell you that THERE IS REVIVAL HAPPENING IN THE YOUTH! Just a little over a year ago, I was smoking weed and drinking, almost died from alcohol poisoning, woke up in a hospital, was taking mushrooms and acid and was definitely enveloped in the hippie culture. I practiced new age religion which is essentially a culmination of Eastern religions and meditation, I planned to study psychedelics and specifically mushrooms. I believed that mushrooms healed us BUT I HAVE BEEN SAVED BY JESUS . And now I am a Jesus freak, and so many other people on my campus have been finding Him, and I really believe there is something very beautiful happening in our youth. Yes, the darkness on social media is SO prevalent. It does take over our generation in a lot of ways. HOWEVER. This darkness is so contrasted with the light that when we, people like me, find the light, ITS SO BRIGHT and it completely takes over in stark contrast with the rest of our world. Therefore, it's very noticable, and people are really, really searching for God. I pray this offers hope to people looking towards the next generation. There are beautiful, many beautiful leaders of Christ here. So excited for this movie.

There are 2.6 billion Christians on the earth now, which makes it the majority belief system of mankind. We've come a long way since 12 men and their Rabbi broke bread in Jerusalem. Yet many media companies refuse to acknowledge this and intend to mislead people into thinking it is strange to accept the teachings of Christ, when in fact it is the most common thing in the world even among other religions. Well done Lions Gate, Kingdom Story Company and everyone who worked on this film for showing the truth.

I saw this movie last night and it was incredible! Having grown up in the hippie era, it was easy to relate because I used to be one of those that got involved in drugs and a rebellious lifestyle. That is ... until Jesus stepped in and saved me! This happened while I was stoned nonetheless and I had no idea how my life was going to change. I was destined for hell until the Holy Spirit filled me and changed who I was from the inside out. Thank you Sweet Jesus for all you have done for me!!!!
Absolutely incredible! Great acting, writing etc. Having lived this in our little town of Ironton, OH back in the 70's the Jesus Movement truly was a nationwide event. Still enjoying the music from that era to this day.

Just saw this movie yesterday and all I can say is WOW!! I got saved in the early 80s and was surrounded by people who had been in the Jesus Movement. They understood and appreciated just what they had been saved from. Unfortunately, since then, my circumstances have forced me into dry, dead churches that I've allowed to affect me.
Yesterday brought me back, and my mind and heart have been trying to process it ever since. Hope it comes out on dvd soon because I plan to watch it again and again.
My heart breaks wide open suddenly to pray for and minister to the next two generations (millennials and Gen Zers), who have been ruined by both evil and had nothing but dry, dead churches. I hope you will do same if God puts it on your heart.
John MacArthur and R.C. Sproul are two good pastors to check out.
My kids are millinials and Gen Z. We go to a Methodist Church with a great pastor that they really like.
Finally a sensible film of emotions, with no profanity, gore or flying men breaking buildings. Thank you God!
