    I have the same exact craftsman I got today for free from a guy who said it was dead. 1$ worth of gas and my atv battery and its purring like a kitten. I got the mower because me and my buddies are getting into racing these mowers. This is a wonderful idea. The ball buster shifting is not that practical and hard to use. This seems like it would be relatively easier to use especially while racing. Thank you so much for this video.

  • @Fearlessfront
    @Fearlessfront  Před 12 lety +1

    that sounds like a good design. I really like the position of the shifter on this mower, I feel like it's easy to use. It would be neat if tractors came with a setup like this from the factory.

    Three were the same craftsman you have, did one of those with the neutral lockout. One was a craftsman LT10, same idea, but no deck handle, built that part. Last one was the kid's RER, put a shifter in along with peerless 6 speed.

    One word: GREASE! Oh the vile squeaking!

  • @harrisonrohm
    @harrisonrohm Před 9 lety

    Built one similar to yours. Cut the handle down 6" put an antler on the opposite side on the bottom. Sliced the handle to acomadate a switch for the electric clutch. Used the deck clutch (electric 6"pulley) on the motor to power the Transaxil. It's fun running the gears cause the Transaxil is truly in neutral with that clutch.

  • @Fearlessfront
    @Fearlessfront  Před 13 lety

    @pivotboy63 I thought about that, if it becomes a problem, i'll probably do it. But I like that it pulls back until it clicks for neutral.

    @NicksGarageDoor yeah, that was mentioned b4, but the trans does a decent job of holding it in place. But I can totally see the cause for concern

  • @Fearlessfront
    @Fearlessfront  Před 13 lety

    @motorhead45102 Yeah, you could adapt this design a # of different ways. If you needed more throw, you could lengthen the front linkage mounting point, and/or move the mounting point on the trans closer to the pivot point, but don't go too close.

    @taterzsalad9252 Před 7 lety

    I just built my 84 craftsman same as this one,, I used this idea without cutting handle down ..... It's epic ... Runnin a 4 inch on the rear and the stock deck pulley whatever that is on motor

  • @bvisel4558
    @bvisel4558 Před 10 lety

    Nice idea I think I will do it. You could probably grind a notch at a 45 for each gear you wanted to. Put a smaller pulley on my transaxle so the belt fits a shifter. Definitely going to look at this for my rig. Thanks

  • @Fearlessfront
    @Fearlessfront  Před 11 lety

    I love tractor supply. it's a great place.
    I wouldn't use a 1-1/2"... I typically won't go below a 3" for belt slippage. The smaller the pulley, the less belt it touching it, therefore more slip will occur.

    Fearless,
    Loved your videos, most don't know how hard that was to do.
    Although I do not need most, you gave me ideas and taught me that that fan gear on the steering has an offset washer - didn't know that. Plus many more ideas.
    I'm taking my old Yard Machine, (MTD), 16.5 hp B&S opposing twin and turning it into a worker, not a real mudder nor a racer.
    I want torque, not speed. To haul a trailer up and down the hill. To pull bamboo out at the roots, to drag railroad ties to where I need them.

    I absolutely love this. If I could weld, I would be doing this right now. I just swapped a manual trans from one of my lt 1000s to the one that had the hydrostatic.(Hydro is messed up and blew the engine on the one with the manual) I am currently trying to develop a new shift lever so I don't have to cut a hole in the floor.

  • @Fearlessfront
    @Fearlessfront  Před 13 lety

    @MrTpengineer Probably, It needs a little beating to set it straight! lol I have a spare trans for it if it ever goes out. It's a "Foote" transaxle, which are notorious for being more difficult to shift then a peerless. I still have yet to drive it... But i will soon!

    @kcniem I put a dished pulley on the transaxle with the hub of the original pulley welded in the center. I ended up not liking that ratio, and put the original pulley back on, bolted to the top of the dished pulley. Watch my vid titled "Lifted, Locked and Stretched! @ridinhonda4life You probably can't just slam it without clutching it a lil bit, If you separate the brake from the clutch it would be eaiser to shift on the go. I haven't even drivin it yet, I just assume it works! lol, I'll have to test her out soon.

    Interesting mod. Although I am moving a fender shift hydro xmission to the dash area, some ideas will work for me as well.
    Just wanted to add, what if you made small, (very small), notches at each gear. So it semi clicks into the gear position, but small enough to just push or pull it and it and it kinda clicks into position.
    Similar to the actual balls in the tranny.
    Thinking the weight of the new shifter may try to change gears if you hit a big bump.
