Lyrics
Sleeping is giving in
No matter what the time is
Sleeping is giving in
So lift those heavy eyelids
People say that you'll die
Faster than without water
But we know it's just a lie
Scare your son, scare your daughter
People say that your dreams
Are the only things that save you
Come on baby, in our dreams
We can live our misbehaviour
Every time you close your eyes (lies, lies!)
Every time you close your eyes (lies, lies!)
Every time you close your eyes (lies, lies!)
Every time you close your eyes (lies, lies!)
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes
People try and hide the night
Underneath the covers
People try and hide their lies
Underneath the covers
Come on hide the lovers
Underneath the covers
Come on hide the lovers
Underneath the covers
Hiding from your brothers
Underneath the covers
Come on hide the lovers
Underneath the covers
People say that you'll die
Faster than without water
But we know it's just a lie
Scare your son, scare your daughter
Scare your son, scare your daughter
Scare your son, scare your daughter
Now here's the sun, it's alright! (Lies! Lies!)
Now here's the moon, it's alright! (Lies! Lies!)
Now here's the sun, it's alright! (Lies! Lies!)
Now here's the moon, it's alright! (Lies! Lies!)
But every time you close your eyes (Lies! Lies!)
Every time you close your eyes (lies, lies!)
Every time you close your eyes (lies, lies!)
Every time you close your eyes (lies, lies!)
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes
Every time you close your eyes - Hudba
That change of key at “Everytime you close your eyes” is a trip to the Moon.
Absolutely!
Yes! Good ear, my friend.
Absolutely
Sublime.👍
Seeing 'Arcade Fire' and 'Remastered' together makes me feel really old.
@Goggle products What the fuck are you on about? Win is a cis male who happens to have long hair. If he was trans, who gives a shit? There's nothing wrong with expressing your identity (as long as it's not a way to show supremacy) and it's not a mental illness or a scheme to feminize men. Based on your logic, Jeff Mangum, Thom Yorke, Slash, John Lennon, Jesus and so many others would be trans-men because they have (or had) long hair. Pushing your transphobic conspiracy theories on a fucking Arcade Fire video of all places makes you look like a schizophrenic.
Imagine how Beatles remastered makes me feel.... :)
@Goggle products you're a twat
Meh. It's more about the album was more indy, wasn't the highest quality audio.
@Goggle products ...omg you're right! he's really Lady GAGA!
This song was played at my sisters funeral today. Its a beautiful mood track and a great homage to her. I will always see this track with new memories from now on.
I am so sorry for your loss
Thank you Sonny
Sorry for your loss.
Beautiful song for your beautiful sister. Rip
Lovely tribute . R.I.P god bless
Absolute masterpiece. We need a tour to celebrate the 15th aniversary!
YESSSSSS
Yes plsssss
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!
Yes!!!
Saw them last year. So good live.
Not gonna lie, this is one of the best songs I have ever heard
Ill lie and say it isnt...
I completely agree
Bless your heart, what kinda music you listen to?
Wrong. NAWT!
It's a great song
I miss this era so much.
There will never be a band that captured my heart as much as arcade fire has. I really wish more people knew arcade fire and appreciated their art.
they are probably the most famous indie rock band
if you haven't listened to silver mt. Zion, at least think about it?
@@lukasknudsen4123 Not at all.
Lukas Knudsen not really... like at all
what Lukas said
This song is an example of how key changes can produce magic! Absolutely legendary song!
I love songs when the key changes near the end
Still remember the first time I listen to this song. Fell in love instantly.
Isaac Aguilar ditto
I remeber the first time I heard it too - somewhere around 2004 ON MTV - and it was a sparse annimation - I preffered
Same here. The key change completely blew me away
@@ethansadberry6069 it was something very special
The key change in this song is my favourite part of any song ever. Musically, nobody comes close to Arcade fire. When they’re lined up on stage side by side, mics in front, doing their thing... nothing compares. Like a wall of musical brilliance.
The perfect song. In my opinion.
Really? Nobody comes close? Nobody at all? Nobody in the history of music? Really?
fred fredburger it’s my truth and you should respect it. Have a blessed day, Frederick.
@@brianwalker2201 I shouldn't though because there is no "your truth" on "the truth"
You sound like a very intelligent and enlightened fellow. Am I right?
I saw them play this song, stumbling across a muddy field in Glastonbury, one year, and that experience will stay with me forever :) - '°~*"
Love anyone who comes to watch an Arcade Fire video.
Funeral is still one of my favorite albums, it's simply a masterpiece and this song is just timeless
Ugh I know and when it came out it was such a special but weird time in my life I remember specifically worrying about hlthe next school year cus it was gonna be my freshmen year at high school and people acted (and watching movies growing up) like we were gonna get the shit beat out of us by upper class men this entire album is so important I think Tunnel is one of the top ten songs of all time surely.
Agreed! sooo good! However, I would have to say The Suburbs is probably my favorite Arcade Fire. There's just something about it that strikes home - thinking back on growing up, living in the suburbs, past friends/lives - the carefreeness of being a kid and then growing up and starting to face some troubles and other difficulties in the world, that usually come with adulthood. It's beautiful and gets me thinking. But of course, Funeral has elements of this too. Arcade Fire is overall an amazing band. Cheers :)
"Funeral" is a masterpiece. "Power Out" and "Rebellion" specifically are peaks of an album leading up to them. That's a long lost art.
I can confidently say it is my favourite album ever
What are some other great songs by this band?
The whole funeral album got me through some really tough times but especially this song, saw them live in the UK at the leeds festival a little while after finding them and their energy was just unmatched
One of the best songs I've ever heard
Still one of the best live shows you'll ever see
That outro is absolutely legendary
If you really enjoy the outro I HIGHLY recommend Godspeed You! Black Emperor's album, Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
@@thenyquilchannel8738 love it.. I have been exploring post rock since last 3 months.. I also enjoyed listening to yndi halda, dirty three, a silver Mt Zion (their other project) and God is an astronaut.
Jules Gilmour YES DUDE. Love it so much. Post rock in and of itself is my new favorite genre
Damn, I found the "good taste section" here. Never thought I'd see Goodspeed You Black Emperor EVER in a comment.
Those little "ah ah" gets me everytime.
The final minute is one of the greatest moments in music history
I assume this is how they recruit new members of the band.
LMAOOO
why they did delet revolution song ! arcade fire
I'm in!
😂 nice
🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️
goosebumps and tears, every time
Bono brought me here. Amazing song. Hard to believe this is new to me!
me too, but I dont get it. It's ok as music; dont really love it
same
@@eschwarz1003 I would replace it with a U2 song on the list that Bono put out. Perhaps Sunday Bloody Sunday.
That genuinely upsets me. This whole album helped me grow up and cope. Arcade Fire is amazing, you need to listen to more of them.
Grazie 8 e mezzo mi hai fatto trovare la mia band preferita
Just got into Arcade Fire recently, fantastic band. How did it take me 22 years?! They remind of Talking Heads a little.
everybody say thank you arcade fire
THANK YOU ARCADE FIRE 🥰
thank u arcade fire
Thank you Arcade Fire, very cool
Thank you Arcade 🔥!
Thank you Arcade Fire ❤️
i think that this video, of course along with the song captures the ultimate feeling of funeral. it's autumn but the color of the sky makes you believe it's still summer, holding on to the rest of the September, the houses nd the street they are in (autumn suburbs!) - the kids and leaves, their suits and the way they "march" with children, a make belief story, beautiful beautiful and beautiful
What a perfect comment!! Yes, exactly ❤️

Oh wow. It's been a while Arcade Fire.
Saw Arcade Fire in concert in Columbus, OH on October 5, 2007. What a great night. Big crowd. No virus to worry about. Good music. Thank you, pre-coronavirus days!
Takes me to the fun, purity, innocence, joy, thrill and love of my childhood ❤. All the beauty and the beautiful souls we encounter and even rotten apples serve as compost once they decompose. We learn from everything anyway in life ❤. Slaying.
Words can't describe how good this song feels. Fifteen years and still magic.
@Hunter Vonnegut bs, that band sounds rubbish and 830 subscribers. Thanks for wasting my time searching them.
This is possibly the greatest sound I've heard in a decade
The outro is just a mesmerizing symphony, isn't it?
This is the song that made me fall in love with Arcade Fire, i cried the first time that i listened to them.
I'm in New Zealand, traveling on a visa from the states. Originally came here with a fresh sense of wonder and adventure, and there's certainly beauty to behold here, but trapped in the mire of everyday life are the same dead-eyed people that I lived amongst back in LA, back in Texas, back everywhere I've ever been. What boggles my mind (beyond the fact that no one has clothes dryers here - how do you dry clothes in the wind and rain!!) is how you can go the world over and still realize - you're the only person who seems to be awake.
That's just some word vomit on what I always think of when I hear "Sleeping is giving in..." Wake up, everyone. You're ALIVE! And it's fucking insane, and devastating, and glorious.
lyrics

My parents called me from Vegoose 2005 during Arcade Fire. I was 25.
any moment something magical can happen
Ahhh how I miss 2004 man. Used to always hear this on much music while my grandma would watch me while my parents would be at work. Simpler times!
Beautiful memories, cherish them. The Bond you make with your grandparents is so special
Heard this in closing credits of an episode of Six Feet Under. It paid off to screen the credits for the song info. Incredible band.
I think that’s where I first heard them too.
Favourite song
This digs so deep. I know because I was prompted three times for auto-tab completion typing the first sentence here.

Come on baby, in our dreams we can live our misbehavior
That line always gets me. Good God.
After all these years I never realized that this was filmed in my home state of Maine.
Northeast Harbor.
Oh shit seriously? I've been there multiple times and never noticed.
Nice. I assumed it was filmed in Canada.
Just discovered this song and Arcade Fire by pure chance

Hi I recommend checking out a song called 'Where I Come From' By Robert Nix
my life feels so much epic when i listen to this
it's like a sweet hit of a drug
I ate about half an ounce of magic pizza toppings and watched this music video. This song is truly magic and lifted my spirits to new heights.
It all makes sense now!

arcade fire deserves to be bigger
How can anyone give a 👎 to this?? Wonderful, hopeful, lovely, dreamy song and video.

Helping me though a huge loss, sometimes music timewarps and takes a new meaning. This deserved a place already x
Me too. I'm here with you now.
Epic
Arcade Fire are super live! There were lots of ppl on stage with them just like the video throwing fire lanterns from one end of the stage to the other.. the whole concert was Artistic, original, well thought out ❤
Oh gosh...high school days. I'm 30 now. Where does the time go? Really loved this song, and Neighborhood 3
3:23 one of the best double claps ever they don’t use one the entire song they just throw one in right there
2004, fresh out of HS, was sick in bed the first time I heard it. Had the TV on & this video came on. It always takes me back
My favorite arcade fire song. I always find myself back to this video
The violin on this song touches my soul
Not sure i have ever heard a more life affirming song! Yes to more life!!!
Thanks Lilly Gruber
What they produced with their budget is just absolutely stunning and perfect.
Master piece
I was in Paris when this album came out and watched the band live on French TV and instantly thought I had found my new favourite band - Funeral is their masterpiece.
This was the soundtrack to the last resort of handling voices. Lying on my back, closing my eyes even if I woke up in the morning wishing I was asleep where in my unaware nothingness it would be ok to exist
please tour this album it would be incredible if you did
Arcade Fire = pure art.
Non andrò a mentire: Venuto per La Gruber restato per il capolavoro
never lose what you enjoy most as a child and and never lose that momentum either, if you like to draw in school all day then keep at it, just make sure that you take it seriously so that it adds up to something, or else you'll be stuck with neither an education nor a special skill, you gotta hold onto it and keep at it, that's my advice, if you have 100 hobbies then you're probably not very good at 100 things, and where does that get you? master something and add your own touch to whatever it is you master, just about all children are described as having massive potential, but it can vanish in no time and the next thing you know you're just another adult with a promising past
thanks, mr wheelman stan!
This is one of these bands you never wanted never looked for but somehow they wormed their way into your life and made you an instant fan so much so that you force them down your friends throat to make them fans..
Thanks to you guys remastering the video, not only does it looks SPECTAULAR, but I now know that you filmed it on Mt. Desert Island in Maine!
Musical Geniuses...
There isn't a tune that isn't epic from Arcade Fire 🔥...
My personal favorite is Get Right.
The Hair literally stands up

Hi I have an offbeat tune to recommend 'Where I Come From' By Robert Nix(right here on youtube)
Miss this version of you guys, with all my heart.
I got to see them live twice. Once in an arena in Portland. They were fantastic, but the arena didn't do them justice. The next time was at the Gorge ampitheater in George, Washington. Its literally a stage on the edge of a cliff over the Columbia River. Best concert I've ever seen. They are something really special. They often change instruments with each other between songs, because they're that talented. This is what pure talent sounds like.
all these years on, I and you, still think this. The 70s had Led Zep, Pink Floyd. The 80s had Madge, New order, etc the 90s had Radiohead and some rap fellas... since 2000s, we've had Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes.
I just wish I had never heard 'Funeral' and could stick it on for first time....
Está canción fue parte de mi infancia, no puedo creer que la tenía en el olvido. Amo ❤
I still remember the Much Music VJ's hyping this up the day the video came out.
