    I really like Shinko tires they grip very well and have 3 bikes now, without counting a 50cc scooter, and my tires get old before worn out .

    I dislike the tires without grooves or sipes crossing the center of the tires because it is difficult to judge tire wear. The "check mark" visible on the new tire is pretty much gone on the old one and the other grooves have retreated from the center too. Without a new tire to compare it to, it doesn't look too bad. I used use Metzler MZ4's, but the centers would wear out somewhat unexpectedly because the wear bars were not located in the center of the tire. Once, I had a belt showing in one part of the tire that was never visible when I parked the bike. I saw it while out at a convenience store.

    Been running verge 016s on my vfr for a few years now and they are really good compared to the pilot road 2s that i used to run on it.

      Yes i am still running them on my ST1300. They are very consistent in feel and wear. No reason to change.

      @@OccasionallyEvilhow many miles did you get from them? The st1300 is my first true touring sport bike. And I'm concerned with the shinko not being gt rated.

    I also tried the Shinko for my ST1300 and really like the ride. We'll see if they last as long as the Michelins that were on the bike when I bought it. Thanks for the review. It helped me decide.

      Thanks for your comment, recently got an ST, and just installed a set of shinko verge on it, always used shinko but all my other bikes are heavy cruiser so I was kind of wondering on their performance on a ST .

    I have found, mainly with front tires, that some of the dual compound tires seem to wear really well in the center of the tire, but wear quite badly just off center, probably where the softer compound starts. In cross winds, the bike runs on the transition causing the uneven wear as it leans into the wind. I don't know if Shinko uses dual compounds or a single compound.

      They make both. If you want even wear then the single compound would work.

    As this a a 5 year old video, have you tried the 016 verge 2 yet? I ride a Thunderbird Storm. It’s a heavy (750pounds) bike and pretty much is known to eat up tires no matter what. I have the Verge 2 on the way because it has more cross sipes and is said to be really good in the rain.

    • @OccasionallyEvil
      @OccasionallyEvil  Před rokem +1

      I haven't tried the Verge 2. I looked it up and I don't see the tire size 170/17 available that is recommended for the ST1300. Kind of looks like a Michelin Pilot I had once. I don't ride in the rain so that's not an issue for me. I still have the bike and still using the Verge (1). It gives me a consistent 7500km front and rear, and isn't too expensive.

      @@OccasionallyEvil UPDATE: I took my first "scrub-in" ride over Labor Day weekend. the tire handles amazing! Then on that first real ride, I got a slice of metal in it and it went flat. since it was a slice, it wouldn't take the plug patch. Just bought an AVON Storm 3

    Hey, I've seen 2 or 3 post about the Shinko's get to wobble a lot?

    • @OccasionallyEvil
      @OccasionallyEvil  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I've never experienced any wobble on this bike with any tires I've had.

    It sounds like you get about similar mileage from the Michys for less money . In that case I'd say it's a good value .. suprised though that they only last 4500-5500 miles ... jeez. I guess it's due to them being a more sporty tire .. and not a longer lasting tire.

    • @OccasionallyEvil
      @OccasionallyEvil  Před 7 lety

      I've heard of those that get a lot more mileage out of their ST1300 tires, regardless of brand. I don't know how they do it. I've never gotten more than 8500 km out of any rear tire that I've had. I have 50,000 km on my bike now, so that's at least 6 rears now.

    • @dbest1aVlogs
      @dbest1aVlogs Před 7 lety

      I remembered your first video when you switched to these, nice to see an update. There could be so many factors as to why your mileage could be less than theirs. Maybe road conditions could be a major one. On my Vstar I only got 6k or 7k out of my Bridgestone ..Michelle commander and Metzler 888s are the only brands for us 1300 guys that l as t into the 20k miles realm.
      I think your tire is a sporty softer compound also so that could be the main reason too. Do you change the tires yourself.

    • @OccasionallyEvil
      @OccasionallyEvil  Před 7 lety +3

      I just take the wheel off and bring it to a local guy to change it. He just charges $25 so not a bad deal.
