That's faith for you. Believe without thinking. Give without receiving. And in the end, people convince themselves of how privileged they are for receiving so many "blessings". Invisible ones that is.. open to interpretation.. delayed.. sometimes hard to understand as well.. but "blessings" nonetheless.. right? I grew up in a Christian environment and during that period of my life is when I saw the most selfish and horrible things being said and done to others.. in the name of faith.

I think Derren raises some very good points about faith 'healing' that Christians need to consider honestly. If we claim to believe that God heals, then why would we need to use fake methods and follow fake healers? Doesn't make any sense. To criticize humans doesn't mean we criticize God.

IMO the deeper problem with theism is ideology. There are true "believers" in all types of different gods and all kinds of deception by people. But, the root problems are the concepts of these gods and what each person thinks their respective gods expects of them. Most of the "major" religions in the world have gods that are immoral monsters! Especially Yahweh (the god character of the bible).
Another important point is that, an enormous percentage of the world's people are indoctrinated from birth through adulthood. Also, our societies, in many ways, reenforce these "man-made" ideologies throughout one's entire life.
I encourage every person to actually "read" (with an open mind) their own holy book!
In my area (which is hugely Christian) I hope people will read the bible from cover to cover. I prefer people read the Skeptic's Annotated Bible!

"They don't have doctors in other parts of the world like we do, who can do operations and stuff. People just say it hurts. And they don't have proper doctors to explain it."
Apart from some extremely poor areas of Africa, I don't believe that's the case in the 21st C. And even then they have doctors with medical degrees, even if they don't have the best hospitals and the most sophisticated surgeons and opportunities to see top doctors. But even in extremely poor areas of middle Africa, where the average wage is just 3 dollars per month, they still have the ability to access a doctor with a medical degree even if they have to walk 10 miles to get there.
America isn't the most sophisticated country on Earth, and I wish they would stop believing it. They have doctors and hospitals and specialist surgeons in 98% of the humanized planet.
And I'm from Connecticut, and it pisses me off to see people saying things like this. It's so insular, and offensive. Maybe the pastor needs to travel around the world and see it for what it really is.

They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made [others] to hope that they would confirm the word.
Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith [it]; albeit I have not spoken?
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I [am] against you, saith the Lord GOD.
And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I [am] the Lord GOD.

It seems that the pastor rationalizes that it is the extent of ones belief that allows one to "move a mountain", or in Jesus case and the case of faith healers, heal the sick or even move a mountain.
I in the other hand don't believe that is the case. No other person surrounding Jesus was able to do what he did during the time they followed him. They were able to SEE with their eyes what he was doing, thus KNOWING for a fact that healing the blind IS POSSIBLE, only if one had belief. It is more likely that a person that saw Jesus do miracles would have stronger belief compared to someone that only heard stories about them.
If i saw a man fly (like superman) i would believe flying is possible because i saw it be done.
To be Christian is to TRY living life as Jesus did. I ask myself if the faith healers try living life as Jesus. I also ask myself if Jesus was here today, would he live his life as Faith healers do.
In the bible you can read how Jesus did not have BLING belief, when asked deceptive question he did not answer with miracles but with rational thoughts. He questioned peoples motives and agendas. Maybe the faith healers on tv are not the best of humanity (which allowed them to do miracles).

I don't believe you please provide evidence. But beyond that, let's not pretend that true Faith healers would have any problem whatsoever demonstrating it to the scientific community where there would be absolutely no question that it was real. I don't know about you but if I was a faith healer I would be going to every single Hospital imaginable and healing children with cancer, I would be healing people at every hospital around the world and would be proving it to the entire world so I can reach as many people as possible. I would not be afraid of standing up to Scientific scrutiny. It would be very very easy to prove that Faith healing works. It we definitely be more difficult to show exactly how the face healing happens or we definitely be more difficult to show exactly how the face healing happens but that's really not as important right now. I'm sorry but every time a faith healer has been investigated it's been nothing but bullshit. And the fact that they are not stepping forward to prove to everyone that it's true and going through hospitals around the world to heal people, in cases that can be demonstrated Scientifically, to me shows that they are full of shit. show me the faith healers that can regrow limbs. If I'm a faith healer I would have a hundred people with HIV, with incurable terminal cancer, with missing limbs, excetera excetera And if every single one of them is healed in scientific conditions than it least we can determine that something is going on and whatever I'm doing is truly working Oh, but that's not the case. so until they can provide scientific documentation that what they are doing is real, I have no choice but not to believe it. And that's the logical conclusion

  • @thomasjackson6012

Ridiculous. How does a man who professes to be an illusionist and atheist have any authority to speak on such matters? As a believer, how could you give credit to the findings of a self professed liar and fool? As an unbeliever, why would you need faith healing debunked? What is the intention of this video? Who is the intended audience? Are we actually trying to convince people of something? Do we not understand how wrong it is to do such a thing? Show me where Jesus tried to change the mind of an unbeliever. The message is to be delivered, not sold.

See there's your problem. You are looking for an authority figure. He is not claiming to be an authority. He is using actual investigation into these ridiculous claims that people buy into because of gullibility, and showing how they are fake. That's the thing with science, something isn't true because a person says it's true. People can show evidence to anyone to support their position. Now I may not be able to understand all that there is to know about every aspect of science, but if I took the time to learn I could. I don't just believe something because somebody said it. But the evidence is out there for you to see. Face healing could be easily proven to happen. Even if you proved it to happen you could not necessarily assume a mechanism as to how it happened right away without further investigation but you could at least show easily that it happened. If I am a Healer and I say okay I want you to bring me three hundred of the most sick people that you can find. People with late stages of COPD, with terminal cancer that has nearly no chance of survival, people that are missing limbs, people with HIV or Aids, etc etc and I brought in scientists and set up controlled experiment and I was able to heal all of them, that at least gives you some ground to stand on. It does not prove how you all of them, that at least gives you some ground to stand on. It does not prove how you did all of them, that at least gives you some ground to stand on. It does not prove how you did it, but it proves that something happened. You will hear anecdotal claims but you don't know if they are telling the truth you don't know what the Initial diagnosis was. There is such thing as spontaneous remission it has been seen in rats as well as humans. But you can't spontaneously regrow a limb, at least not that we are aware of. Now is this person was able to heal even a nice percentage of these people, and it was verified in documentation and under laboratory conditions and not just anecdotal evidence, then you can start talking about looking into how it happened. But all we find with investigating Faith healers is that they are frauds. Or lack of evidence to support anything that they are saying. if I was one of these healers I would be going around to Children's Hospitals all over the world and I would let everyone know about it and I would welcome all forms of investigation and even if people don't believe me, if I consistently showed the world That when I left these people were getting better, then even though they may not know why, it would be hard to deny that I was doing something. But I'm sorry I just don't buy into this stuff and until they can provide legitimate evidence, I'm not going to believe it. And neither should you. The fact that people are so gullible as to delete people like this is why the frogs exist. And if there are real people that can actually do this they should be outraged at the fraud and they should be stepping forward to prove to the world that they can make a difference. Because if Faith healing really works, then we don't need hospital. We could just have all the sick people go to them and it would be extremely easy to demonstrate that what they are doing is working. And that has not happened. I'm not sorry I'm skeptical about stuff like this but baffles my mind that the rest of the world isn't just as skeptical as me. and let's say we have five Healers and all five of them demonstrate that what they are doing is reliably working, what is one says it's because of Jesus, one says it's because they are channeling Allah, one says they are an alien, one says they learn technology from another alien species, one says that they are just magic, you have no way of knowing which one of them is true. And that's the problem. People see stuff like this and assume it's true and then say I can't understand how they could be doing this without God. And that logic right there is horrible. It's called the argument from personal incredulity or the argument from ignorance. It's a fallacy I can't see how this could possibly be anything else therfore God., it's the same thing that people used to justify God. they look around at the universe and God and they say I don't understand how else it could happen therefore God. That is not evidence. And people think that that's evidence and it's sad. Tell me what area of science Says I don't know what this could possibly be there for it has to be this. You can put forth a hypothesis, but then you have to find actual evidence to justify that hypothesis. And then once you have found enough evidence to support it and nothing to disprove it, you can move up to a theory. A theory is the highest graduation point of an idea in science. There is nothing better than a theory. science doesn't look at lightning and say I can't think of anything better there so it must come out of the hands of Zeus . I know that people are afraid of saying I don't know, but sometimes that is the right answer. If you ask me a question and I say I don't know that does not mean that whatever answer you have becomes more likely to be true. I'm not afraid of saying I don't know. And sometimes that is actually the correct answer. People think they are entitled to have answers but filling the gap of knowledge that we have, with God, is not correct. It has not met its burden of proof. Until it does and until faith healers do, I will not believe. And neither should anyone else.
