Bet you poor Ben was like all of us. “Ahhh, now there’s gonna be a huge twist any minute now”
- “what”
Yup!.......NOPE
"Ben, were going to get your 5 grand back ok?"
*Derren returns*
"Ok Ben, now sleep... when you wake up, you will forget this ever happened".
Lol
HAHA
Exactly what I thought 🤣😅😂
Hahahahahaha 🤣😅
hahahhahahhaa
45:37 "Ben don't worry we're going to get your 5 grand back, okay? Don't worry"
....
"Ben, we're just going to need another 5 grand, but the system works. You just going to have to trust us."
...
"Okay, Ben. We're down 10 grand now. But just give us another 3 grand. Come on Ben, our number is going to hit. I can just feel it. Ben? Ben?
Also, forget these last ten minutes, Ben.

my fav numbers are 3 8 0 and 30......the misery lollol

Arthur Withheld "Yeah, we're gonna need another 5 grand if that's okay?
I don't know about everyone else in the comments, but the fact Derren got 5k out of Ben's bank and he didn't notice between the event happening and the show suggests he could probably afford to lose 5k anyway. Christ if £5 is missing from my account I notice it.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Good for me nobody could steal such an amount from me because I don't have it in the first place.
Dusty I've come here from a Hannibal trick and saw you commenting there, too! See you in the next one
Lol
Yep! My bank would've been calling to assess all those overdraft fees!
I feel like Brown my have intentionally chose the wrong number. I felt that was when he tried it with the Lottery.
...show abruptly ends. Hopefully the money was returned. Guess we will never know.
"Can't bring in machines to casinos" *procedes to bring a hidden camera and a camera man*
U get it
@@missengineer2782 Same here. In comparison to his more recent shows which are more remarkable , this was pretty lame. Though I guess it’s his early shows. But this to me was staged. (The motorway ‘trick’ is possible, but it would take an incredible amount of knowledge and practice which I doubt he did with such a short time period for a one off show piece for Tim Westwood 😆) For one the guy who’s money was stolen seemed extremely wooden in his acting. Watching an evening show (probably aired at 9pm) and just so happens to be in a freshly ironed shirt, jeans and shoes (not something a man would wear around the house and definitely not while relaxing to watch a show he was ‘hypnotised’ to watch - so no ‘maybe he was going out’. Also any money won would of had to be returned on the basis of carrying such cameras.
Maybe I’m thinking too much into it, but he was well prepared (or purposely), to NOT hit the winning number to play into the grander scheme of his image towards the public audience as he was still growing in reputation, and to give a more trusting awe of genuineness in all he will do upcoming. No doubt they would work and why that he set it all up just for such an anti climax (albeit funny) if it wasn’t for a the bigger picture.
@@_SIRenity_ Excellent points. This was not a legit casino. I work in the industry & have travelled to dozens (maybe 100's) of casinos. Not even close to a proper roulette setup, no pit boss or house observer present, & the dealers chip tills were all kinds of amatuer & out of wack. This ain't a main pit at a big casino, nor a high roller lounge. It was a sketchy underground dive or.... it was fake.
@@realCarlosMazda I have never been into a casino but i would expect they'll speak the language of that country, and this was english. Unless he was still in the UK.
As a person who went through a bout of gambling addiction, mostly blackjack and roullette, I can totally appreciate what Derren did here. No matter how good you are, gambling is gambling. You can lose 5k just like that, confidence means nothing.
Holy shit, you're gullible.
Help me please

@@lostcloud6615 lol I was gonna take it way farther and say Ben realizes suddenly he also agreed to a full bukkake session in that truck, win or lose.
there was derren holding a giant cheque at the end for 180000
the ending was great ....
The message being gambling is a good way to lose money.
I'm glad Derren did this, it's very smart indeed. He won even though you'd think he lost. He's basically made people think twice about gambling and put people off rather than win once and encourage or promote gambling. The audience wants him to win and it'll be great, losing is the reality of life gambling. Well done Derren.
Thing i love about Derren, he's honest and it wasn't all set up. Next to 8 was amazing in itself. If he had of spread bet the 4 numbs around his prediction and kept winning he'd be thrown out after 5 spins!
It was a magic trick essentially with camera footage splicing and audio overdubs. The whole "in the casino" thing was definitely fake.
@@cliffhulcoopofficial8075 He got it wrong, if it was faked he'd have hit the 8.
@@GWOAT I am 99% sure it was faked. Practically everything Derren does is fake and he admits it. Elsewhere in this thread yesterday I posted where there is a supposed "camera glitch" where it actually goes black allowing him to splice in recorded footage. He faked it, in my view because he wanted to show the country the true casino experience, going in prepared to win, expecting to win, and coming out a loser. All he had to do was hire a casino when they had shut and have "extras" turn up and record it all without sound. They could add the sound using sound effects later in the studio. I am just amazed some actually think it was "real" as shown. Even Derren admitted at the beginning it uses magic tricks misdirection and showmanship It was essentially Derren doing an "anti gambling" advert.
@@cliffhulcoopofficial8075 Omg, i thought he was a real magician lol. You need a good night out it seems, have some fun 👍
Exactly can't film going in but can film at table. Either will get ya in trouble.
I love how I'm watching this show years after it's aired, have never been to Europe, and I'm still nervous that I'm the one whose money Derren took.
Hahaha I was the same. I kept looking at my phone worrying he was going to ring me.
I was checking my phone to see if he’d call! 😅
Fr :3 Same here. Haha. I'm mostly European too, but never been there. Hehe.
Imagine ever having 5 grand in the bank... I definitely knew it was impossible for it to be me... /sigh

SPOILER ALERT:
I can't believe I just watched this whole 40 minute episode to watch him lose? Surprised me, that's for sure.
Billy Garvey waste of time it seems.
Larry Hampton wouldn't quite say that, it was entertaining for me at least. The ending was still climactic, just in a surprising way
Larry Hampton it was one out mate that still is amazing
the real win was getting the money from the dude..
He was only one off and as he already said he can’t factor variables like bounce

I went to see Showman live in 2021 and Derren wiped five seconds of my memory. 100% believe he got Ben to give him 5K and made him forget he ever had it
This man could take the world down if he had a case of the Mondays.
I feel like that’s not the end, Derren always manages to turn round a “failure” into a huge success by the end of his shows
nope, he did this as a stunt to show how you cant win the casino, and how it really can be damaging as its all rigged against you, he did a lovely interview about it on ITV I think
@@QLMB Thank you for letting us know, since he nevr seems to lose at ANYTHING!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHA 😅 This is what I was thinking, just in a less witty fashion. I was thinking, now everyone who knows Ben knows he has that kind of money he wouldn't notice missing AND he's extremely suggestible 😬
That was the strangest ending on a derren brown episode. Pretty impressive though.
This world is such a better place with Derren Brown in it. You are the 1 in a billion Derren. You are a mere mortal and yet you achieve in reality what is mere mortals dream about. You rock!
"I'm not usually standing for this" 😂
I'm so glad someone else caught that 😂😂
OH, I was scrolling to see if anyone commented this, and I knew it was an innuendo, but I literally *just* really got it
If he used his powers for evil he could literally own the world
ROFLMAO!! I swear Derrin, you are awesome. I believe had you split the money into thirds, you would have won two of the throws. Kudos to you for showing an honest ending.
Even in 2021, there is still no equivoqlent to Derren Brown! Multiple people have tried, all ended up OUT of the race! Still the number one master in his field! 👍🏻👍🏻
I was wondering today whether different countries have their own version of Derren and what sparked that thinking was the curiosity as to whether a Derren is tuned into British cultural mindset specifically or his ways can work with people from somewhere completely different...
@@ChrisTian-uw9tq Some things are not possible outside of the English language, but 90% of what Derren does would easily translate. His methods would work for people in different countries as well as in the UK. There are Mentalists all over the world, who work in many different languages, but I'd happily say that globally, Derren is the gold standard for this generation. I don't think many of his peers would argue that either.
@@SupernovaSymie I don't dispute it either :)
Thanks for your thoughts shared ;)
Has me consider that with that train of thought, what about those Derren's out there who aren't as public... what they use these skills for and to which degree play influence to broader audiences unaware... His episode with the spirit of the dead contact dude, Joe... just begs to think what is going on out there. I came across this video on YT where I was certain the guy was utilizing some of these techniques to promote himself, quite the channel of tripe he had behind him. Aaron Doughty I believe it was... rather freaked me out...
@@ChrisTian-uw9tq Well history tells us that these and many other techniques were used to swindle way before they were used to entertain. In fact, even today, I turn on one of the many 'lifestyle' channels and watch people using the same skills that Derren has mastered to con, trick and manipulate people and positioned in good faith. Derren is a master at what he does, there's nobody better. But Derren is, has always been and will always be, an entertainer. One of the best.
40 minutes and then it’s just like “sorry ben we will get that money back to you”
If Derren did to me what he did to Ben I would come back from the bank with a receipt saying "insufficient funds" 😂
Imagine being so insane with hypnotizing and finding a very easily hypnotized person that is also rich: STOINKS
Thats not a derren show end
did u even see him in the background at the end?
Not A Bot no I didn’t see him pal where was he in the truck with Ben and what was the deal with the guy standing at the side of the truck with the £100,000 big cheque
Ricky C that's what I mean, the check is for £180,000 and to me it looks like derren
Not A Bot so either that's not the full ending, or they had that ready in case he won but since he lost they didnt need it
Ethan Lappin oh that makes more sense yeah
haven't even watched it completely yet but derren is such a smart and amazing person
I think Derren just lowered that person's self-esteem
Which one, Ben or the girl he called a loser? I think either one would feel shitty. The latter for obvious reasons and the former because now everyone knows he can be duped out of £5k and not even realize it. I know I'd feel stupid and people would never let you live that down!
16:25 i felt really bad for her he called her a loser and her face awww
That was needlessly cruel.
Same, I thought he was going to spin it in the end and make her feel better. Nope! 🙁
@@BrianPletcher1 He would have done if the matchbox had ended up with Richard. Then he would have revealed what was written on the note and said some guff about how it might seem like lucky people always win, but we can change our luck by being positive or whatever, and then given the £20 to her. There was no psychology involved in that trick at all, no prediction and no influence (just like everything else he does), it was always going to work out no matter who ended up with the money.
@@BrianPletcher1 He tried to - there were a few pushes for the bloke to end up with the £20 and when they didn't work he gave them the extra 10 seconds to switch. He was obviously hoping it would go the other way but you can't guarantee everything.
You can tell the age of this story by the shakiness of the 'sleeve cam', also the size of it. Action cameras have improved so much in the years since this was made.
Right?! And the fact he had to call him on the land line! Not to mention him walking down a dark street without a smartphone flashlight at hand. Ain't nobody with that kind of money kicking around that doesn't have a phone on them now 😂
2007-8
I'd say they added that effect in post production.
Point 1 - You can't hypnotise people like that and you can't make them do things that they wouldn't normally do (like give away significant sums of money).
Point 2 - Derren "losing" is supposed to be the focal point here and we're supposed to remember that. It's meant to take our focus off how unbelievable it is that he can randomly hypnotise people to do... whatever!
Point 3 - Derren's camera shows a blackjack dealer who handles chips and then at the end, doesn't show that his hands are empty (ie: he hasn't stolen any chips for himself) by turning his palms upwards. This is not a real casino.
So, everyone then thinks this is "real," because if it were staged, Derren would obviously have won, right? But it IS staged and it's staged to make us believe that ALL of it is real and by "ALL of it," I'm really only talking about the hypnosis part. If we accept that all of it is real, then we've accepted the hypnosis bull-poop part as real as well, and that's the whole purpose of this show/ episode. Once Derren has established his super-powers of hypnosis in this manner, then following episodes that use this bull-poop, fantasy twaddle will be accepted as genuine too, because we all remember that time when Derren lost $5,000- of someone else's money, right?
In other words, the whole point of this episode is to prime us to believe that hypnosis can do things that it can't really do. Everything else is misdirection, reinforcement and entertainment. That being said, this was fantastically entertaining and Derren Brown is a master magician and a true showman. I hope to continue to see more wonderfully entertaining episodes like this one.
nb: Even if I knew nothing about hypnosis, I know a good deal about what people will do for money. I've been to a lot of casino's around the world and the one thing they seem to have in common is that casino's everywhere require their employes to show their palms (palms UP) to the overhead cameras after distributing chips. ESPECIALLY when handling high denomination chips like the $500- ones Derren requested. This is required of them so that the casino can know that they are not palming chips. At 44:21, in the top right hand part of the screen, we can see the "dealer" counting out the chips and passing them to Derren. His hands are visible at all times and at no point does he turn his palms upwards. This alone tells me that they are not in a real casino. Combining that with what I know about hypnosis, led me to the conclusion written above.
Every trick in the show was basic magic. Ben was a stooge and getting the number wrong by one was, as you so clearly stated, a distraction.
Derren Brown hypnotised us all to watch this episode.
Poor Ben is not the brightest star in the sky. Excellent episode!
Damnnn... This was unexpected. And that skill with anticipating the ball. He is a genius for sure.
someone give this guy an Oscar already !
45:40 look to the left of the van. A check with 180K and Derren Brown holding it
The guy holding it was a crew member ready to give Ben the cheque when Derren won.
Charlie.Lomer It's a joke. "Reality TV" is just the name. The name doesn't make it real life... I hope you know that. Are you American? You must be...

Hi Ben are you are there ?
Ben: looks directly at the camera then realises and looks away.
Derren: look outside Ben Weve got a camera man outside.
Ben: oh yeah I see him now 🤣🤣
Ain't no one gonna talk about Ben's sweaty armpits and the way he walks
To be fair -- if someone just told me they'd 'stolen' five grand from me (AND that I was on TV) I'd be sweating and shitting myself (i.e walking that way) too!
Bruh he literally gets a call from derren nbrown and told he’s on national tv, and not only is he on he already has a camera pointed at him through his window, so he suddenly realizes he’s on tv with no time to prepare... begins to realize he’s the one who is missing 5k, and that it’s now showtime for him with everyone watching
Well, if I discovered a cameraman was filming me through my window, while being called to say that 5K had been stolen from my account - the sweat would be blasting out of my armpits.

I wish this was the full version of this cos I remember the end of it strongly hinting that this was planned or something like that
Alan Walshe I remember it ending like this but why did they have a boom mic if Ben is mic'ed already?
If you remember earlier his mic was very quiet. The film crew probably decided a boom would help people actually hear the guy.
Dunno bout the mic issue but I know that will the full version ends the same its a couple seconds longer and I remember there being something on the vans or something like that which hinted that everything happened as planned, might neccesarily been the vans might of been a sign or something but I remember there was definetly something

Still damn amazing! One off? I wonder how many he’d get right out of 10. If only 1/10 he’d be making 3.5/1... I bet he’s closer to 6-7/10. Damn 🥇
44:20 this is how most reaction videos look nowadays
Starts off with Derren sat in a TV trailer. Outside the guy's place are two TV trailers. He has to ignore the first and enter the second. What's in the first one if not Derren sat providing live commentary? The doors on the back were closed on that one too, to hide what's inside. You don't take two to a site for shooting if you don't use both OBUs (Outside broadcast units).
There were no satellite dishes visible outside the vans, so how did they receive the 'live' feed from /mainland Europe'?
25:40 "I can hear you but I can't see you' then at 25:48 he responds to a visual cue 'There you go, so...' when Ben turns to see the open doors, and Derren seems to catch himself.
C4 doesn't usually broadcast stuff that has it's gut drop on the floor.
What was Derren really up to? Retiring to a quieter existence after this so goes out by letting people feel they shouldn't follow him or believe in him? Derren?
BRILLIANT
The Paul Wilson segment is why casinos don't let punters touch the cards.
I think there would be some legal problems if he wins 175k. Casinos have some crazy rules and they didn't want to win because of that. Derren missed it on purpose 100% sure. Plus I'm not convinced he made this bet live. Could be pre-recorded also. They can't risk it being live if casino security spots those cameras or there is some technical problems.
Yes! Too risky for Derren to actually place the bet, film it, win and then put it on air. The casino management would soon work out what had happened and Derren would have been banned from ALL casinos in Europe. Casinos in the USA ban players for 'counting cards' and winning "too much" at Black Jack.
Derren stated, at the start of one of his televised shows - maybe about luck? - that he has been banned from many Casinos in the UK. He used to "sneak" into them, beginning at age 16, and use his astounding memory (techniques), ability to 'read' people, and finely honed card counting skills to win games like Black Jack. It'd be interesting to know what happened to cause many UK Casinos to ban Derren from their premises!
I think he wanted to make people think that hes not always right
This is one of the older Vegas scams, which explains why it would be carried out in europe seeing as the act is probably more known and illegal in the us. but if he had bet a bit wider over a period he would have walked away rich or busted.
an irish judge ruled no casino or betting shop is obliged to pay out anything..even if you win 1000 after losing 5000 they dont have to pay!! it happened in a casino in PJISBOROUGH DUBLIN IRELAND...he found a fault in the machine...bullshit...
I remember watching this when it was live, and like everyone else I was waiting for some kind of live twist......Then when it ended abruptly me and the missus just looked at each other wondering WTF just happened 🤣
He lost on purpose to send a positive message to everyone watching. He was very clever in how the programme ended if you reflect on it and what had happened and why.
Amazing
What's with him saying "bless you" 3 times at the start? He says nothing by accident
Winston Smith be less you
Thank you, that really bothered me. I'm glad I wasn't the only one trying to figure out the manipulation behind that. I've never heard him say that, let alone repeatedly, and he's VERY anti-religious so there was some reason eh?
There's no way that was a real casino. The camera work was designed to obscure the fact but it was still obvious. The sound design was so fake. Obviously a very small room.

How did Derren know that Ben had £5000 in the bank?
If this show is not scripted
Then derren is greatest person
Who unlocked human potential
It's all fake. They are actors with water-tight non-disclosure agreements. If it were feasible to 'snap hypnotise' somebody and make them do whatever you want then governments the world over would be studying this. Also there would've been at least one criminal caught using these techniques for personal gain. Because neither of these things have happened then I can only conclude this is entertainment dressed up as superpowers, nothing more.
Love you Darren
Even though I'm watching this on CZcams, I legitimately turned my phone on because I thought there was a high possibility that this was all set up... And Derren had made me click on this super old link!

I used derren browns method in the book to memorize massive amounts of information. I can memorize a deck of cards easy. I've done 4decks before.
The "producer" at the end convinced me this was the plan after all. Simply winning is too easy, predictable, and boring. Getting the number NEXT to it, is way more captivating, maker better TV, and still shows insane skill.
