This just shows that Alonso has still got it! He's always been giving 100%. Always. He just rarely gets acknowledged for it, because he doesn't have the car to show it, but during conditions like these where the drivers makes the difference, he shows what he's capable of. He's a true living legend. I never stopped rooting for him and I never will.

@@justarandomguy8530 Doesn't take away his performance. No one can deny it. He had an engine problem, which costed him 1s/lap and couldn't pit under the VSC. The qualy performance shows the pure pace of a driver. In the race there are several other factors like strategy, safety car and so on.

I want Max to win but it would awesome to see Alonso winning also. If he can get in front of Max in turn 1, it could get interesting knowing Alpine's straight line speed.
As a Max fan I was cheering harder for 2 place of Alonso my back in the day favorite.

Alonso is at a completely another level at this age. For most part of his career after Renault he did not have the car to do justice to his skill others wise he would have ended with more F1 titles. Would be great to see those good old days of his fights with Michael and Hakkinen and give some of that back to Max and party.
Let me just remind you all that Alonso did that while still dealing with the pain in his hand. Beast! Absolute beast!

He's a future champion material, big team should give him a shot.
At the moment Alpine is miles away to be a champion.

Still remember when Alonso joined Renault as test driver in 2001/2002. That is when i properly started watching F1 and was trying to understand the sport. And after all these years, this legend is still here and he is probably getting even better than before.

The wet track brings out the best drivers. P2 showed the best, P3 started to dry out which changed the out come a bit.. But Max is still on top and AL is a great driver.

When Time spends... this age in Formula One will be remember by two super-class drivers: the old Fred and Lewis Hamilton. I would have liked Alonso to have known better how to choose his teams... but I guess then he wouldn't be the old Fred... in any case... both drivers are among the greatest in history. Formula One will never forget them.
