  • GMA3's Dr. Jennifer Ashton weighs in on the Alabama court ruling that embryos are children and discusses the impact it has had on IVF treatments: "We need to stick with the science... What's referred to as a child, a fetus, an embryo in the lay public actually is inaccurate and incorrect when you talk about medicine."

Which is what this doctor was explaining. Each woman at each step and stage may be experiencing a totally different reality, and mentality and that's THEIR struggle. But you cannot blanket it. You also cannot blanket the unique physical traumas of a miscarriage.
Intentionally being obtuse in such a clear, important, and traumatic medical situation is not only pathetic and embarrassing...it actually completely invalidates the ridiculous point you're trying to sarcastically make.

If an abortion and a miscarriage are so bad and so traumatic that means what they are carrying is indeed a human. It’s not what she asked it’s how she asked it. There was no impartiality to it, it had a religious push behind it, trying to create some sort of gotcha moment on the Doctor. Sunny as a lawyer should know better than to ask any questions with a loaded agenda, her bias was showing and that doesn’t make for good journalism.

This doctor is a practitioner, not a scientist. Most biologists believe that life begins at conception/fertilization. Please do your research. From the National Library of Medicine:
Biologists from 1,058 academic institutions around the world assessed survey items on when a human's life begins and, overall, 96% (5337 out of 5577) affirmed the fertilization view

That is a huge "if," though. And since these blobs of cells are discarded, or can be discarded, BEFORE the entire process, no one should be giving them personhood or saying that they're a child.

She's entitled to have whatever feelings she has about an embryo. But that's where it ends. No one, and certainly no government, should be interfering in what should be a woman's right to bodily autonomy.
BTW, I think Sunny is being disingenuous, as she frequently invokes her faith, but has gone through IVF herself. The Catholic Church does not condone it at all.
