I’m a survivor. It changed me completely! Diagnosed at 41
I was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive breast cancer June 30th this year. I’m on my 2nd round of chemotherapy. The 1st round consisted of carbiplatin & taxol which was 12 weeks. I started the adriamycin & cytoxan last week. This treatment is every other week & it’s a little stronger & has taken a toll on my body so much so that I’ve just taken a leave of absence from work. I have 3 more treatments left of this one & then I will have my surgery & radiation. I’m so looking forward to becoming a breast cancer survivor. Seeing videos like this gives me hope. Thank you for sharing your story.
I didn’t know how I made it some days, but I did and you can too! Lots of love and hugs to you. (I was diagnosed w/invasive breast cancer right at the beginning of COVID and almost was denied the care I needed - it was so scary. But I made it through 5 months of chemo and a month of radiation). Coping can be different for everyone, but one thing I can recommend that really helped me was joining a cancer support group. I actually didn’t do it til I was about done because I thought I didn’t need it, but cancer can be so isolating and having the group wound up being incredible. Take care Sheila!

I am 74 yrs old and I was diagnosed with stage 2 Ca of the breast 2019 I went through 5 cycles of chemotherapy and 1 month of Radiation and now Cancer free I am advocating for Mammogram and breast examination for early detection.

My beautiful daughter has just been diagnosed with stage 3 invasive cancer.
She has had a partial mastectomy and lymph nodes removed.
We now start the journey of chemotherapy for 12 months and then followed by radiotherapy.

Going through the process now! This started mid-June with my annual Mammogram. Biopsies, surgeries, I'm going for mapping next week for radiation. In fact, I just found out I won't need Chemo yesterday. That was a huge relief! I've been lucky to have many prayer warriors and supporters, but they do seem reluctant to share my news with others. I've been open with everyone. I grew up in a home where everything was a secret!!! My greatest regret is that I didn't ask the questions then, that I don't have answers to now! Thank you for sharing your story!!!

My husband was telling me they are working on a blood test that can detect cancer before you even start to develop tumors. The future looks hopeful! God bless!

Just awaiting chemotherapy after being diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. It's very scary despite the support of family and friends and being told I am a strong women. I am 76 years old and otherwise healthy but the fear has me in tears at times. Thankyou for this heartwarming video.

You got that right! I had no family support, other than my aging mother and even that was limited. My only sister, frankly, didn’t care, wouldn’t care and still doesn’t. My five brothers were also nonexistent even though I had been there for other family members who struggled with serious health issues numerous times. I have no children. I had a supportive partner thank goodness, but family, no. Nothing. Very difficult pill to swallow. It will be three years on November 23rd since my diagnosis, and I still, at times, still struggle with the lack of caring.

My mother had cancer and my youngest sister. I encourage family members that have a loved on that is dealing with this to be a very great support system to them.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March. I am over whelmed and I stay positive as much as I can. They can’t do anything for me cause of all the underlined illnesses I have they will treat me as long as my body will take. I can reject it within two years. I’d like to make a bucket list but I can’t.

So good to hear from you Amy! I am a 57 year old female diagnosed with Stage 3 invasive ductile carcinoma with lymph node involvement. I had yearly mammograms and could not for the life of me understand how this happened to me. I had a double mastectomy, 8 rounds of chemotherapy and am now going through 25 rounds of radiation. It has been brutal physically and mentally. I believe a positive attitude has helped to get me through it. I’ve changed what I put in my body and how I treat my body. I’m getting through it and plan to live a very long life on this earth. I believe in the power of prayer.💝🙏🏻 It definitely helps to hear from other breast cancer survivors, so thank you!!!

Three things change a person.
1. Death of a close person.
2. Getting a serious illness.
3. Immigrating to a different nation .
After 3 years of Mammograms and ultra sounds… every 6 months…. they still didn’t see it, until I fought for a biopsy for growing lump. I was 39, 42 when finally diagnosed. Now a 3 time survivor. I was told at the beginning that people don’t want to know, even in therapy I was told not to talk about it. I have never believed that to be true. Thanks for the story.
I’m a retired nurse five of my twenty year career were spent on an Oncology unit,I’ve been retired for forty two years now and I still remember my terminally ill cancer patients names and faces .
One in particular stands out in my memory,my daughter used to play with her granddaughter they lived right around the corner ,a year before she decided to see her Dr. her nipple had begun to itch ,by the time she decided to see him her nipple was all but gone.
I will never forget when we got her back from the O.R her Dr.spoke with. me,he said that it had metastasized throughout her entire body ,and his next statement I will never ever forget he said. “ cancer is as unpredictable as the proverbial,wind ,she was dead in six months .
I remember one particular work shop we had to attend on the terminally ill cancer patient,the person presenting asked us if we were to die ,there were about three hundred of us there ,we all raised our hands,her next statement has stayed with me for fifty years ,no she said “ it’s how we die” it’s so very true no one wants to suffer Amy Robach was so right in saying that people don’t want to talk about cancer if any kind really,this was very informative thank you
Thank you for nursing! My chemo nurses were so fabulous! They were attentive and loving and funny. I actually looked forward to chemo just to see them and catch up. When my treatments were over they had a funny song and celebration. I mean is it weird to say it was a good experience? Because of cool nurses it was bearable. (I’m in remission ;)

I recently went thru this I’m 43 I had my mammogram and then then I asked to get a sonogram then they saw something and I went had a biopsy only to find out that it really wasn’t nothing it scared me for sure and always will

If you have dense breast, INSIST on an ultrasound (especially if you have a family history of breast cancer).
Why ultrasound, and not mammogram?
@@Hailey_1507 I think she means to have the ultrasound in addition to the mammogram. Dense breast tissue can hide masses and cause them to be missed by mammogram alone. Ultrasound can detect the mass through the dense tissue. I have dense breast tissue and always have to have an ultrasound done after my mammogram. Last week, the Dr found a suspicious mass via the ultrasound. I’m having a biopsy this coming week. Hopefully it’s nothing to be concerned about.

3D mammograms are good for dense breasts. Ask for that one.

I remember seeing Amy’s story on GMA. I was diagnosed five months after her. She inspired me to stay positive and focus on the end of my treatment. Her book is great for survivors and those in active treatment. I am seven years in remission. And she is right/ cancer never leaves you. But I kicked it’s ass!

Finding out what I knew was something wrong with my body was terrifying. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer, the thought of not being here for all the milestones everyone dreams of shattered a wife and mothers soul. I got mad and I had a very colorful name (my poor mom would just shake her head every time I’d say it which was often😉)for my reproductive organs which gave me back the strength, I took away the terror it was trying so hard to alienate my thoughts. I had a total hysterectomy and appendectomy with 46 lymph nodes removed for study. During the waiting period of what my next phase was I would be going through is actually worse than the initial diagnosis. I was lucky very lucky, everything was removed and my margins were 100% clean. What Amy says is true, once you have cancer you’re even more susceptible to again receiving another diagnosis BUT until that time if and when it happens, I am living, laughing and being able to be here to love my new grandchild, husband, daughters and my precious little Yorkie sisters, Paisley and Pebbles. Fight like Hell, fight back like Hell even when you think you can’t. I continue to give thanks and pray that everyone battling this horrid disease and the toll it takes on families and friends are given grace and willpower to see it through. Get your damned mammogram, stay regular on your yearly female exams, it will save your life.
Anytime a doctor says you have any kind of cancer, it changes you. Mine was skin cancer and had the tumor removed 2-21. This lady is right, you're at a high risk if getting it again. 😞

Three years, on 11/23, since my diagnosis. I am terrified of a recurrence. I try not to live in fear and most of the time I don’t, but it’s still scary. It’s been difficult trying to do all the “right” things. Don’t have family support and have had to deal with pretty high levels of stress since. My mother died last year and I had to help care for her in her final days and then administered her estate into 2021 with awful siblings who made my life hell. I also have other health issues that have since developed. Not sure at times how to cope with all the stress, which I know is cancer’s “best friend.” It sucks.
When I went through it as well at 40 years old. I had friends disappear. It's like when you say it they act like you said you have AIDS. Most women that I would talk to had a stunned look on their faces.
I think other women are as afraid as you are because they could be next so they don’t know what to say ❤️
Friends disappear with benign tumors, any chronic illnesses too, that's just how most people are.
Still fighting after almost 11 months. Cancer changes your life forever. ❤️💪
My stage 2 BC didn’t show up on a mammogram.. self exams are best…that’s how I discovered mine.

I concur, I had breast cancer in 2018, it was devastating but I fought it and I am now four years in remission. Within two weeks, of chemotherapy I lost all my hair, it was hard.😇
I love my pink sisters.
No matter what cancer, people get uncomfortable talking about it. That’s why I always try and have a conversation about it when it comes up. I have visible scars and that’s fine, they are the reason I survived the cancer and can live a happy life now.

I needed this video. I got breast cancer for my birthday. Well it feels that way; received stage 2 diagnosis day before my 52nd birthday last month. Lucky me 2 weeks later found stage 1 tumor in my other breast. (Never even been lucky enough to win bingo) They suspected a growth on my ovary but thankfully its only a hemorrhagic cyst that will be monitored. So after 2 biopsies & 9 million tests I'll have a bilateral mastectomy on Nov 19th almost a month to the day of first diagnosis. All of this seem surreal still trying to mentally adjust to my diagnosis & upcoming surgery/treatment.

Such a powerful message! Take care of yourself and self medicate with good food, good sleep, good exercise (whatever that is for you), regular checkups, great relationships with yourself and others etc. etc. etc. Blessings to all those fighting the fight!
The sad part is when you try to tell your friends to learn from your mistakes & focus on health, exercise, living a happier life, do less drinking… but it seems to fall on deaf ears & I can understand that too! I would have been the same a few years ago. But it’s sad to see that only a shock of some sort changes us enough to make a concerted effort for our life’s betterment!

I think it is not the breast part people are getting uncomfortable, but the cancer part. I think some people do not know what cancer is or does to the human body. There are people I know who think breast cancer is transmissable.
I’m a BC survivor too. I am 5 years cancer free. I took control of my body too. The biggest change was cutting out sugar. Running every day with a weighted vest and lifting heavy weights. 32 lbs gone at age 58. Better than ever

I always thought she was just a pretty face but she is so much more she's very encouraging and I love the fact that she says she's in fight mode with cancer.
All cancer survivors know that fear. Every time you get a CT scan or pet scan you get that fear. Every time I go can get blood drawn for my cancer center I get scared. I didn’t have breast cancer. I had stage 3 colon cancer mainly due to the tumor size but that fear stays with you

Breast cancer sucks. My s/o had it and it changed our lives forever. I think people feel uncomfortable because it reminds us all of our mortality. We make plans for the future. At least I do. When I retire, I"m going to learn that new language. I'm going to get my private pilot's license. I'm going to do (whatever). Cancer is the reminder that a. maybe...maybe not! and b. we're mortal and are going to die one day. You don't see that when you look at billboards of beautiful women. You don't see that when the ultra rich like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson are shown on their mega yachts with beautiful women, living the life. Cancer is like the music stopping at a great party. I think that's why people are uncomfortable when they hear it.
