As a woman that is considering the option for IVF right now, yes I agree if a lab destroys the embryos without my consent and without option for me to use the embyros , I'd sue for damages. But, if a technician in that lab accidently ruined the embryos viability through preparation of implantation, slips and falls or if the lab suffered a power shortage, or was in a location that would suffer a natural disaster resulting in the clinic being destroyed or even if the embryo failed during implantation , which happens more commonly than not ( and is a potential outcome advised during consultation) No way! Condeming the doctors and technicians for unforseen circumstances out of their control, that may have me lose a once viable embryo , and then to equivocate it to manslaughter, absolutely not. This madness is all because of the unreasonable and impassioned zealots overturning Roe V Wade. They've completely muddied our ability for critical and rational thinking.

Embryos are not people. The US government (yes, even the ones who try to claim it is) says so. It’s not in the census, it’s not taxed as a person. People say, “I have one kid with one on th way,” not “two kids.” You can’t have it both ways.

    • @ryanbianchi3118

What a terrible argument. The United States law is not the sole arbitrator of truth. At one time, it said that Africans in this country were not people.
Human life begins at conception. There is no other rationale benchmark that life would begin at. A person is not given personhood because it is included in the census (once again, Africans were at one time not included in the census. Thousands of immigrants do not get counted in the census every decade).
Whether a person is taxed is not an indicator of his or her personhood. My 7 year old nephew does not pay taxes. I promise you, he is a human being worthy of the right to life.
Lastly, saying “I have one kid and one of the way” literally infers that the “other on the way” is also a “kid.” That’s why people say “another.”
There is not a single compelling argument that unborn human beings aren’t human beings. Ridiculous reasoning. Thanks for highlighting it.

I'm not sure you'd like that precedent to be the law of the land bc if embryos are not people, it could be argued that battery of a woman that results in the death of the embryo should be charged as no more than assault/battery on the woman Full Stop. Bc the "woman" is not a mother, the embryo is not a person, it has no value, but I guess since it is "part of the woman" (not a separate & unique living being) it would be seen as equivalent to her hair, nails, etc. Therefore, at best she could maybe sue for emotional damages (sentimental value) but you could argue that just like her hair/nails, she can grow a replacement embryo that won't be any different than one she lost due to the assault.

To consider the events that led to this lawsuit to be demonstrative of "wrongful death of a minor" is ridiculous. Full stop.
In doing so, the court has effectively decided that all frozen embryos must be kept in perpetuity. Those receiving or providing IVF treatments can no longer decide to dispose of, nor donate these "minors" to research - whether as a result of having successfully conceived; or, having decided to forego further attempts to avoid further heartache, etc.
Any parents of these IVF “minors” in Alabama who do not wish to continue to provide for and/or protect frozen embryos - whether due to having already successfully conceived; or, because of a decision to forego any further attempts (for whatever reason, especially to avoid further heartbreak as a result of non-success) - should file with the State’s family courts to voluntarily relinquish their parental rights.
If the State (namely its Supreme Court) and legislators/executive insist that these “minors” be protected as would any other child, then the State of Alabama’s Department of Human Resources can do so via foster care and adoption services. The state can pay for its own storage facilities, etc.

The Alabama Supreme Court has ruled that frozen embryos created during fertility treatments can be considered children under state law.
The decision, issued in a pair of wrongful death cases brought by couples who had frozen embryos destroyed in an accident at a fertility clinic, brought a rush of warnings from advocates who said it would have sweeping implications for fertility treatments.
The plaintiffs in the Alabama case had undergone IVF treatments that led to the creation of several embryos, some of which were implanted and resulted in healthy births. The couples had paid to keep others frozen in a storage facility at the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. A patient wandered into the area and removed several embryos, dropping them on the floor and "killing them,” the ruling said.
Chief Justice Tom Parker issued a concurring opinion that quoted the Bible as he discussed the meaning of the phrase “the sanctity of unborn life” in the Alabama Constitution.
Justice Greg Cook, who filed the only full dissent to the majority opinion, said the 1872 law did not define “minor child" and was being stretched from the original intent to cover frozen embryos.

@@godislove544 then several of them (because each one is a person) died inside her? Each of them is considered by the Supreme Court of Alabama to be a child. lets say there were 3 implanted, the other 2 were killed. Is that manslaughter?
Sounds crazy? Yes, this whole thing is crazy! I can also tell you as ex-clergy, that the Catholic Church believes that she committed a sin, and that any couple who can not concieve a child naturally's marriage is consided not a valid marriage. True Facts. Ask a Canon Lawyer. (Catholic Church Law).

Can someone help me with this. So I rewatched this video and just relistened to the beginning. Did she say that another PATIENT dropped someone else’s embryos. Because of that is what I heard that hospital and anyone else should be held liable for the fact that another patient had access to someone else’s embryos. Why was there a patient even in a room where embryos are being stored never mind around another patients

Pro choice is pro life cause pro choice is respecting a woman's decision to decide what to do with their pregnancy. And banning abortion will only cause woman to take drastic measures like doing it themselves or worse killing themselves in return.Pro choice is not pro abortion. So much focus on unborn but no one doing anything about living children in orphanages.

A sincere question if you are pro-life does that mean you're against the death penalty, does it mean that you're also in favor of people getting free healthcare including the terminally ill and all children, if you're pro-life does that also mean your are Pro getting the 25% of all the malnourished children in the United States the food and nourishment they deserve, if your pro-life does that mean you're Pro housing all the homeless people who are risk living on the streets in the cold and heat, if you're pro-life does that also mean your pro helping the immigrants who are fleeing life-threatening situations in other countries? I'm sincerely curious.

The terms used should be pro-abortion and anti-abortion. Pro-life extends beyond the womb. You can't say you're pro-life but support the death penalty and want to limit support given to families in need.
