Honda first participated in the World Championship Racing(WGP) Isle of Man TT Race in 1959. The motorcycle it developed for that race was the RC142 works machine, fitted with an air-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve, 2-cylinder 125cc engine.

It's quite fascinating to see how quickly motorcycle technology evolved during the 50s and 60s. 125cc engines made about 12hp in 1955 and by 69 they made up to 40.By today standards there is nothing crazy about this RC142, it's a 4-stroke parallel twin with DOHC and yet it produce 24hp. I wish I could try one.

It produced 18.5 hp at 13,000 rpm.

And, by the way, the 1954 NSU Rennfox 125 cc gave 18 hp, the MV 125 cc in 1952 gave 15 hp, both well over 12!

Was this some sort of "heritage day" or do they regularly exercise the collection?
