- I saw Jimmy Diresta make his massive dovetail bench and knew immediately that I had to give that a try. I've only made dovetails a couple times in the past, and they were for small boxes. This was my first time attempting massive dovetails. Thank you for the inspiration Jimmy! See his video here:

Those slabs weigh about 130 pounds each, hence all the drama with picking them up! I harvested the wood from my farm and milled it on my Norwood sawmill. I plan to show some more sawmilling in future videos. Let me know in the comments if that would interest you. Enjoy the video! Voiceover version available to patrons on Patreon!

Rustic yet so very elegant, you're going to be happy every time you walk past it.
Thank you for this awesome video! I love seeing folks step away from the need for all dovetails to look the same and show mistakes!
I noticed the contour that he had cut on the legs. I thought that it was just look pretty. Then, upon install, I see he actually matched the existing baseboard trim! And did an awesome job to boot! And the glove tricks! Awesome!!!
well today first time i saw someone almost as good and patient like jimmy and it is wonderfull.
keep up.
cheers mate
Beautiful bench with awesome grain pattern and finishing. Looks fantastic.
Always liked pillowed dovetail look. Inspiring work.
That glove trick though. It's the simple things I love
Beautiful bench. Beautiful job of making it. And thank you, thank you! THANK YOU!!! for not spoiling it with a music bed! (Love the karate chops!)
I don't have your resources, but that's not gonna stop me from trying something like this. Thx again.
Jon, this is excellent. The rounded ( mushroom) ends on the dovetails are gorgeous.
Have to give a thumbs up right after watching the hand chop!
The mushroom on the Dovetails really make that bench special. Excellent!
jimmy inspired, but that is your style all the way through. beautiful piece that is built very well
How could anyone not like this, good work sir, came out great!
Dovetailing in a very expressing way. Greetings from Germany
That is true piece of hand built beauty.
I feel so envious as so wished I had a workshop as love to work with wood and build.👍👍👍
That was an absolute joy to watch. Thanks for sharing!
Great job, I like the sneaky fill ins on the dovetails!!!
I tried that Karate chop myself - and it was so much easier than using the table saw - great tip. The overall finished product was A+ .
Love the way you left the dovetails proud and shaped them smooth.
Nice detail.
Great video.
You'rea true artist, John! 👍
Love the proud rounded dovetails!
Probably my favorite piece of furniture I've seen, seriously.
Looks great and it even comes with a guard cat pre-installed!
So many things to like in this build and a great tribute to JD! I especially like the rounded ends on the dovetails and pins, the stain / oil to make the grain pop and most of all how well you scribed in that magnificent skirting board. Thanks. cheers, David
I really like the proud dovetails.
Nicely done brother.
Deserves a Thumbs up.
I really like the bench build. And thank you for the tip about putting the brush inside your glove to stop it drying while you wait for the next coat!!! I'm a bit annoyed with myself, I mean how blooming obvious, it will stop me having to find plastic bags from now on!!
one of the best tables i have seen.
john you are the man looks awesome keep up the videos. god bless you and your family
Beautiful! Those are some serious dovetails
Nice, love the rounded dovetails---
I like how you highlight small tricks in your videos. I learned quite a few new things from this one. Thank you!
i am still trying to master his karate chop, so far i have broken my hand 16 times and havent managed to get a clean cut, can someone help me?
You should be proud of yourself-well done!
Bro! You did a great job. The cut in around the molding was sick
Absolutely beautiful, very skilled and talented
oh man that shine is fantastic!!
White oak will always be one of my favorites
Absolutely beautiful. Dam you make it look so easy which is the sign of a great wood worker or artist
I think I'm more impressed by the freehanded circular saw cuts than anything else. Not really, of course, but dang.
what a beautiful piece. seriously good craftsmanship!
excellent job and beautiful type of wood. I want to watch more videos like this!
Jimmy, well done, beautiful job. The bulging dovetail ends are a special touch. Turning a messy corner into a more ordered messy corner is very clever. Well done.
Excellent craftsmanship !!!
Very nice, Man. You got me laughing and learning at the same time!
Them joints are lush !!
What a beautiful fit and finish, gorgeous end grains. Dont worry I wont tell anyone about the fillers.
If one didn't know the shims were in there to fill the gaps, you'd be hard pressed to find them...and people that do are much too nosey and should not be invited back! Great video John thumbs up.
well done that man never saw dove tails done by hand before nice scribing to
That is beautiful!
Well done my friend
THAT is a pretty joint.
You've earned a subscriber.
Beautiful wood, stunning craftsmanship! Your ascribing and fitting will serve as an example for my apprentice! Thank you.
A very satisfying watch, nice work.
Great chisel work!
Simple lines make the best looking stuff. Great idea on the knobby tails!
Beautifully done!
Wow almost too nice for an entry way, very beautiful!
Very cool project, I suppose you would describe the fingers as green and green, awesome finish.
Very cool project. Thanks for posting.
Really great work and well-crafted video.
Wow well done !!!!!
Did Jimmy just say wow about something I built?? Well, that's 1 for me, about 300 for him! ;-) Thanks Jimmy! If you hadn't made your dovetail bench, I honestly would never have thought to build this! And thanks for being such a positive force for the CZcams maker community!
FarmCraft101 this is just amazing!! You should be proud every time you walk into your home and see this. HUGE thumbs up for this project.👍👍👍
Absolutely gorgeous Brother! Very elegant! Proud to be a subscriber! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
you used sanding disk to rub on danish oil.??? never seen that, why?
That and more details in the voiceover version for my patrons! ;-) Sanding the danish oil in mixes sawdust into the oil and fills the pores. This being white oak which is very porous, the end result is a smoother finish. Thanks for watching.
Very nicely done. I really enjoyed the varying methods for the dove tail cut outs. Learn something new everyday so thanks for that! Also great editing. New subscriber from me - looking forward to the next one.
Absolutely stunning piece of workmanship.
Nice work, love the glove on brush tip.
Absolutely beautiful man, great job.
Well done sir. Very nice built in bench .
Good Work .. And Good Camera Posetion .. I Feel Good When I See This Video .. Thanks Bro .
Nice work! I really like the tip of using your spent finishing glove to seal the brush and container until the next coat. I usually grab a ziploc bag, but will likely be doing this next time.
Very inspiring, very well done.
Very nice result. And don't worry we wont tell about the secret :) Thanks for sharing the small "mistake" and how to fix it. That is how we all learn. Again beautifull result
great attention to detail love it
That's pretty impressive work!
Good Lord that was amazing to watch from beginning to end. Inspiring work and fantastic editing! subscribed

Very nice, the humor was also wonderful.
I loved the jimmy diresta dovetail bench video ive watched it atleast 10 times or more. Then i saw your bench inspired by jimmy's dovetail bench. Dont tell jimmy but i love this design way better. The out jogged dovetail joints really add to the design. Just beautiful!
Looks pretty good, yup, pretty good!!!
Awesome build . I'll sign up for vids on the sawmill. Thinking about adding a mill to my arsenal!
Very well done! 8/4 clear white oak!!??. 12 inches wide! Wow!! That would have been pine for me.
That's just damn good work right there...thanks for sharing...
Cutting dovetails by hand is my FUCKING NEMESIS
absolutely beautiful
That came out great!
Looks great Mr
Man! I love how the rounded over dovetails look!
Make Build Modify Right!?
I've no idea why, but for some reason it reminds me of the kind of furniture that would be in the house of Winnie the Pooh.

Wow that looks great! Good job & love the glove/brush trick ty! Now I want to go try the knobby dovetail joint on my next bench.
Well done sir!
