Try applying less mascara on the base and more on the tips. Mine stay up, because I apply most of it on the tip.
Thanks for the great tips on mascaras. I've been struggling with my eye lashes for years. Why? I've been using 'European' eye make up techniques with no success. I'm Latina with almond shaped eyes and stick straight eyelashes (my Native American blood) that defy all curling. Finally I realized that Asian woman have the same issues! This will help me very much.

Shiseido's lash base holds curl the best! Others I've tried have made my lashes droop like non-waterproof mascaras do.
I'll try to do a video on makeup removal soon! For waterproof makeup, I recommend a 2-part eye makeup remover like Lancome Bifacil or Clinique Take The Day Off. NYX has a great, more affordable one that's similar as well!

You should look into Japanese mascaras! Shiseido Majolica Majorca's mascara is super waterproof & lengthening and doesn't have fibers so it doesn't cause those flakes. You could also try Fairydrops original waterproof mascara. They are amazing!

I actually use one of those eye-lash curlers that are halved, much narrower than a regular eye-lash curler. (It's the ones that you use to curl the corner of your lashes that you may have missed using a regular curler.) Most of the curlers that I have tried in the past don't usually fit my eye shape very well since I find myself sometimes pinching a bit of my skin when i use them (ouch!!). I have short straight asian eyes too but i dont have monolids, i have a little bit of lid showing but still kinda hooded. anyways, even tho the curler takes more time to use since it's smaller, it really helps me to reach every single lash and helps curl them sky-high.
tutorial on this looks please.. it really fits for a a teenager like me.. quite natural with the hint of class. :D

I have stick straight Asian eyelashes and found that Mabeline Lash Discovery waterproof trumps all mascaras I have tried in the past. The formula is dry which is key like you said in your vlog, but I love the brush because it is soooo thin it really helps to FIND all those tiny lashes missed by other mascara. Thank you for this video Jen! This has changed my life and I can get a beautiful c shaped curl from the heated eyelash curler. I'm Asian (1/4 English) but I'm blessed with long thick eyelashes but they stick straight. When I curl my eyelashes, they stick straight up which looks horrible from the side. The heated eyelash curler is my life saver. I can use it to form a nice curl, separate the clumps, and fan out my eyelashes and they just look much better. I really recommend anyone with straight eyelashes to buy a heated eyelash curler and I think you can get it from ebay or some other online shops!

One way to get a really nice curl with the "curlers" is to first use a blowdryer to heat up the metal of the curler. 3-5 seconds of direct heat towards the curler should be enough. Then, curl eyelashes like you would normally do and put on mascara.
THANK YOU for mentioning the for an eyelash curler that FITS your eye... a lot of people completely overlook that because it's so simple but it ruins the look from the start if you don't have the right fit!
This video has answered many questions i've had for YEARS. I'm native American and we tend to have VERY thick hair and as for my lashes they like to overlap and grow spirraticaly, and to top it off they have a mind of their own. SO no control over them whatsoever. I feel like with asain lashes it's kind of similar, from my knowledge they have thick hair too. So this has answered my prayers. I know exactly what I've been doing wrong. Off to the store I go! Thanks

I love the Waterproof Loreal Carbon Black! It holds the curl and thickens while giving length that I didn't know I had with my lashes! LoL
I totally agree with Jenny J. The Neutrogena remover is a perfect dupe for the Lancome Bifacil which is awesome except for the price! I have also tried lots of high end & drugstore mascaras and my favorite is Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes in waterproof. I also like to use the Neutrogena Towelettes (original blue pkg), adding a few drops of water to really saturate them with moisture (but not dripping to lose cleanser) and it removes all waterproof mascara as well as fndn, etc.

This helped me so much ! I'm asian too and I hate my short lashes sooooo much now what i'm using is a clear waterproof topcoat mascara it's from catrice and after That I use just regular mascara oh yeah but first curl your lashes !

the only waterproof mascara that i've been using is the UD Cannonball one and you got me into it! i love how thin the brush is. i also use some non-waterproof ones and the one i want to mention is Maybelline's Great Lash Big. even though it's not waterproof and i also use a primer before it, this mascara holds up the curl really well!
I use the Shiseido Nourishing Mascara Base which is waterproof to set my curl and then top it off with any regular mascara. This has worked well for me for years now! Quick and easy!
I'm using a mascara that's called lancome hypnose drama. I think it's very good and gives me volyum even if i put little on! So i hope you try it out cuz it has helped me a lot

I had the exact same problem I had but I found a tip (which actually works really well) all you have to do is curl your lashes normally, but only put the mascara on the tip of your lashes and avoid thick coating it. Trust me, my lashes stayed curly for wayyyy longer and it makes your lashes look really long!

I'm Vietnamese and my eyelashes don't even curl and are really short! 😭 Here's what i do and it works! It's a life saver for me! 1- i OVERcurled my lashes 😏 2- I use a WATERPROOF 🌧 I always use drugstore mascara ✅ And my all-time favourite mascara is MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATIONAL 😍😍👌🏼👌🏼 Volume 👌🏼 Lenght 👌🏼 Hope i helped you! 👍🏼
+xjj lqx_ always use waterproof mascara! also, you can add baby powder on your lashes after one coat of mascara and after applying baby powder put another coat of mascara, this will help to volumize your eyelashes

Maybelline's waterproof mascaras hold the curl! Their rocket volume and colossal volume are the only mascaras that hold my curl and nicely separate my lashes, the struggle 😩 good to know I'm not the only one with this problem lol

I have hooded lids and my eyelashes are ingrown , I've tried the Za Eyelash Curler but I can't seem to curl them properly . Either the lash feels too short or the curler pinches onto my lid when I press it .

I have oily eyelids, hooded eyes(Asian) and straight and short eyelashes. What I love to use on a daily basis are Lancome Hypnose Star or They Real by Benefit. If I want a better curl, I like to use anything waterproof. If you're afraid of smudging, I find that it really helps to just add mascara at the roots of your lashes.
covergirl professional waterproof! the wand is really skinny and i think the formulation is great! it's one of those underrated mascaras i'd say!

I haven't exactly tried waterproof mascara's because I've heard people say it's really difficult to take off? How do you take it off without having to actually use oil to remove?

myesha thahsin it will feel even heavier and greasier than oils.
I always use an oil based makeup eye remover and it comes off so easy! Then I use vaseline to get rid of any excess and then cleanser to rinse off. All clean and no excess.
I find the tarte faux eyelashes (used with their mascara) really helpful in lengthening and curling the lashes! I have naturally long, slightly straight lashes and they are my favourite!
I'm currently using the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (waterproof version) and it seems to work pretty well! It looks really good on the bottom lashes!
What's your thoughts on the Benefit "They're real" and the Two Faced "Better than Sex" Mascaras Jen?
I've tried both and I"m not impressed with either.
I tried the benefit one and I thought it was okay but if you get the tip too close to your eye it really bugged me because of the rubber bristles. You should try the Korean voluminous one.
I can't fit my "eyes"into any lashcurlers, the right eye usually has no problems but the left..nope😯 I think they are made for people with bigger eyesockets😯

shu uemura has a "S" eyelash curler that is smaller and you can curl your lashes in sections :)
my fav mascara so far is the Lancome hypnose dolly eyelashes . it works really well for a big, full volume, curl and hold your eye lash all day. When i use it, people think i did a eyelash extension., but i have my little secret. I also use a mascara base from Lancome too. It helps your eyelashes grow, protect and keep the mascara not falling down into your face. those 2 are my favorite
In my experience, the biggest difference is in the pad. Cheaper pads break down quickly and don't curl easily because there is too much give. The expensive ones last way longer, fit eyes better, and make curling time shorter in the morning! I recommend Shiseido and Shu Uemura the most. :)
For me, my left eye is naturally curled (ish) while my right eye is stick straight and won't hold a curl

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! I'm Korean and I obviously have straight lashes but my eyelashes are pretty long compared to other people - 1.4cm. The problem is, I curl my lashes and it looks like a C curl from the side but when I apply mascara, the curls deform and it turns straight and flat. Why is this? I use a lengthening mascara first then a volumizing mascara but as I apply my first mascara, the lashes lose all it's bounciness. Could it be the mascara I use or just my weak eyelashes? SOMEONE ANSWER PLEASE! x
Probably too late but I recommend the Kiss Me Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara! My eyelashes also turns straight after I apply mascara even though I use a waterproof mascara. But, when I use this mascara my eyelashes seem longer and also stayed curled all day long, it's also very waterproof and smudge proof! But you'd need to clean it meticulously with makeup remover as it's pretty hard to take off
I used to have this exact problem until I started using maybelline Colossal WATERPROOF mascara. Try it !! It works really well

Love the tips! I curl as I bring the curler away from my lashes as well. I find a primer on my lashes prior to applying waterproof mascara works well! Thank you!
DO NOT USE WATERPROOF MASCARA EVERYDAY!! A lady who works for MAC told me that if you use waterproof mascara everyday it will dry out your eyelashes leaving them dry and brittle.

They also say to only curl the tips and apply a little of mascara on the base. Too much on the base will dry out your lashes.

I have straight lashes and shiseido eyelash curler is my fav too! Recently I tried eyelash perm to curl my eyelashes and I LOVE IT! If u have chance to get your eyelash permed, i strongly recommend it

the GOLD eye lash curler from Daiso works so well on monolids! I have double lids but bought them for my 2 Asian friends and they absolutely love it. it doesn't pinch. it's super cheap and you can also buy a pack of black daiso eyelash curler pads for the same price. so worth it.

I can't live without my eyelash curler or my heated eyelash curler, I've had this same mascara routine for years and it has given me the best results! ^__^ The heated lash curler also works great for fiber mascaras!

I love my Make Up Forever Smoky Lash extra black mascara. It's not waterproof but it helps my once-straight-down lashes to curl over time. But I do have a quite long lashes for asian though, so it just helps to make it curls up over time. I use it almost everyday since last year.

I finally bought the Urban Decay Cannonball mascara, because HALLELUJAH UD IS IN AUSTRALIA :) after hearing about it on your channel for so long, I was eager to try it out.
Verdict: Love it! It builds the lashes by adding little fibres, but doesn't look as spidery as some other mascaras. 10/10
ysl baby doll is absolutely amazing for people with not many lash hairs and want that everyday voluminous and lengthy look! just purchased it, at first i didn't like it, but after playing around with it, it is so good! :D
L'oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara (waterproof of course!) This mascara is my fave and such a great brush x
Great vid! And I also use the same techniques and also experienced that waterproof works the best. My faves are: Estee Lauder Double Wear (amazing for a non waterproof) Maybelline Rocket Volume wp (for a more natural look) and l'Oreal Architect 3D/4D wp
The YSL waterproof faux cils mascara is my absolute favorite mascara, cover girl lash blast is my favorite drugstore :) when I get clumps in my lashes, I go through them gently with a lash comb so help separate them when they're dry :) thanks for the tips Jen!

i love the they're real mascara from benefit. it's a non water proof mascara but it curls ur lashes amazingly and give u a perfect volume. the brush is a plus too, it makes ur lashes stay separate.
I LOVE the Maybelline Falsies! It is really really nice and very affordable. However, I use to use the Clinique waterproof one and it is AMAZING! If only it wasn't too expensive.

Jen, if you're not in love with the brush on the regular Falsies, try the Falsies Flared! I didn't really like the regular one either because of the brush. I found that the spoon side of the brush didn't have enough bristles/the bristles weren't long enough so there wasn't enough separation for my taste, but the Falsies Flared has more bristles on the spoon side, so it separates my lashes beautifully! You should definitely check that one out!
You MUST MUST MUST try the Benefit Bad Gal Waterproof Mascara. The brush is super dense and the formula is absolutely beautiful and voluminous too. It doesnt clump AT ALL, definitely a favourite for my asian lashes

The two drugstore ones u picked is my absolute favorite! Mainly the cover girl lash blast and how you described it is perfect. Since I have more lashes it works wonders for me. But I do wish they would tone down the brush size!

I really like Lancôme Hypnose Doll Lashes. The wand is tapered at the end making it easier to reach the shorter lashes on the corners of your eye. The formula is waterproof, not clumpy and stays on very well

Try to think of your lashes like the hair on your head. If you color your hair, use heat products, etc your hair may become brittle and dry which can cause breakage. If you condition it, your hair can potentially grow longer. Neither route destroys the hair root. Lashes are the same, just shorter. ;)
