- Scott is not entirely ready to give up on Fran, but when she takes a fall, he might not have a choice.
In this scene: Scott Hastings (Paul Mercurio), Fran (Tara Morice), Shirley Hastings (Pat Thomson), Barry Fife (Bill Hunter), Liz Holt (Gia Carides)
About Strictly Ballroom:
This wildly off-beat comedy is about a male dancer who refuses to follow the accepted rules of ballroom dancing and creates his own style of choreography, which infuriates the ballroom dancing establishment. Before he's scheduled to compete in the Pan-Pacific ballroom championships, he's forced to take up a new partner, a beginner who initially seems without promise. With his help, she turns into an assured and wonderful dancer.

Love how Fran and Scott are the only ones wearing their own everyday but best clothes not their dancing costumes and they have not stage makeup on. That's just themselves stealing a private moment together and dancing for themselves.
I also love how Fran transforms herself in the movie. Clothes that fit better, half up and down hair.
The mum did try and give her a make over but it didn't look good on her so she retained her own self
1:18 I read the script for this movie. They described Scott watching Tina in this scene as being like the boy in 'The Emperor's New Clothes' - "and realises, there's nothing there." And that he and Fran dance the rumba the way it's supposed to be danced.
Still one of the most romantic scenes ever. I haven't watched this movie in years. It's due a re-watch. It's a timeless classic.
Agree!
"It's the inconceivable sight of Scott dancing with Fran!" Great line.
Both actors have the most amazing unexpected electric chemistry with one another, their eye's really tell the love story with out saying lots of dialogue . So glad they cast this wonderful talented pair together.
One of my most favourite films of all time. Full of longing , hope and love . And great dancing.
True! As many fans "Dirty Dancing" might have. "Strictly Ballroom" strikes another tune, a more honest one. Tara Morice is a woman and the Francesca she plays believes in what she does. "Baby" was unnerving in many ways. The chemistry between Fran and Scott the two protagonists has more authenticity.
@@NoldorianElf So true! I find more genuine chemistry between them than I have for Dirty Dancing which to be honest I find slightly overrated (sorry couldn't actually like Jennifer Grey in it).
Yesss i want to find more movies like this one in the sense that the guy if cute 😅 that he has chemistry with the girl and that the movie isnt so mainstream
I love this song too :)
The way Fran is being a good sport about it all, even complimenting Tina, breaks my heart.
She's so sweet and gracious even though she's clearly heartbroken.
She’s complimenting Scott’s partner because she knows how good Tina is she seen Tina dance and she realizes she’s not a professional unlike them that’s why he needs to be dancing with Tina not her Tina can do things that Fran can’t
I love the part at 2:02 where he seems to leave the camera but then rounds back to guide her absolutely destroys my romantic heart
This movie reminds me that I'll always struggle with the bogo pogo
Haha!
The bogo pogo is not an easy dance to master.
The most romantic scene in cinema...
JESUS WAYNE!
😂
To be a low budget film, I never get tired of watching this movie. I loved ballroom dancing, I just got old and needed a kidney transplant.
same! it just goes to show you that you don't need an $$$$ budget to produce a great movie.
i could watch this scene over and over again. the way they look at each other, their dancing, along with the music...soooo good!
I DID watch it over and over again, at least a million times!
This has got to be the most romanticly, heart achingly beautiful dance in cinema history, but please feel free to present other examples as good or better.
Doris Day
The only dances in movies to rival this one are Baz Luhmmans own movies. I'm not saying they are better, but I am saying only he can defeat himself.
I mean...Maria vontrap and gaylord...but like they are both so good
Yes I love this movie...and I especially like that it has an unusual pairing.
@@eadlynjune true! I was only nine the first time I saw this movie and this particular scene left a big impact on me. Almost 2 decades later all the movies in his Red Curtain Trilogy were my ultimate faves, I've lost count the number of times I've rewatched those beautiful, artsy films esp Strictly Ballroom. Baz Luhrmann is such a genius in making these romantic, heart-rending scenes in his films.
Fran endears herself to him even more with her sincere kind heart.
If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it is yours. If she acted bratty about it, she wouldn't be so sweet and endearing
My favorite part of the movie, too, next to him seeing real pasa double for the first time. This scene reminds me of all that was wonderful in the golden age of song and dance films with an extra dash of chemistry. This scene always gives me good goosebumps.
This movie was so well thought out! The camera angles, shots, the lighting, the music. Baz really outdid himself here.
Kinda wish he kept this more naturalistic film style for Elvis.
@@eddieperez8111 I haven’t seen Elvis yet, is it a good movie?
@@christykelly1 It's really good but it took me a bit to adjust to Baz's overly extravagant editing style. Sometimes it felt over the top but overall still enjoyed the movie. Especially Austin Butler's portrayal of Elvis
It’s Baz’s best movie by far in my opinion. Every frame, every line is perfection. And the casting!! 💯💯😘
If someone looked at me like that, I'd melt 😭
They could NOT have chosen a BETTER song if they tried! 😎
I got teary-eyed when I saw this at the cinema decades ago. I just got teary-eyed now. Such a gorgeously romantic moment of a brilliant little movie
“A Bird of the Air” is about some thing completely different, but also a hidden treasure.
There are lots of great movies with dancing, but there will never be better *ballroom* dancing film.
I always LOVED this awesome movie and this, by far, was my favorite scene. And having dearly departed Doris Day sultry singing "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" is the total cherry 🍒 on the cake of my day!!! 👍 😀😍🤩☺😃
LOVE Fran's dress. She's stunning in it
R.I.P. Doris Day--you really made this scene memorable.
This scene lives in my head rent free 🥺
His eyes 😍
Paul why are you so extremely handsome in this movie???oh gosh...
I am totally agree with you Ελένη
Only on the presumption of a natural gaze though. No thieves or black magicians allowed. I miss nature. There is nothing natural about the devil. His spirit makes me shudder and he’s fostered children with third eyes. There is nothing natural about that and the case simply cannot be argued. He is the god of Jimmy Saville and Epstein Island 🏝 Nothing of nature in this either. He is not my God. Jesus is. The first True Man and of people do not submit to Truth they’re on a path to unnatural abominations ….
He was gorgeously HOT!
I love this scene and dance, it reminds me of that first intimate couple dance in the sound of music
Yeah, you're right!
This is my favorite scene in the movie! But I absolutely love the part where the song says "perhaps, perhaps, perhaps"
SOOO romantic ! I could watch this over and over..
So sweet. It so depends on not being in a surveillance state though…
beautiful. It's in the eyes. Look at each other and follow each others rhythm. Love this scene.
How can 1 movie have so many magical moments?
my favourite part of the movie!
Love the end ... when he slides in and she‘s in this stunning red dress 😍
This is one of my favorite dance scenes in this movie!
No matter how popular this movie once was (I don’t really know) but no matter what I think it was under-rated. Its been one of my favorite movies since I first saw it around 1995. I absolutely love this scene. Its all in the eyes 👀...and the song...🎶 so well done 👏 Fun fact: Did you know Fran (Tara Morice) sings “Time after Time” in this movie?!
Yes! Watched this with my mum when o was a little girl in the 90s and we always loved her version I’ve Cyndis (no offence to Cyndi as it’s a good version just prefer Taras’)
Nooo wayyyy... wow!
No wonder why I love that version more than ALL the others. That version in 'Strictly Ballroom' steered me towards listening to everything by Cyndi Lauper. I never knew it was Tara Morice.
Her version encapsulates the film's themes so perfectly. Awwwh that's amazing.💖
Absolutely one of the best movies in cinematic history. Especially the pathos....and the ending! OH the ending!
"A life lived in fear is a life half-lived".
That's a really beautiful and exciting film.
RIP Doris Day. I love this movie and her song.
Gosh i remember studying this movie back in school 20 years ago.. Sweet memories ❤️
When I’m out of sorts, this makes it better.
A very romantic scene!
Those hips though. Sway Scott!🕺🏻
I have watched this movie about 7 times. One of my favourites of all time.
Same!
A beautiful moment. Sensual and elegant.
3:38 when she looks up at him after falling, with such vulnerability and says in a tiny voice, "sorry" :'(
Never caught that before, she says it so quietly
She believes in him and his steps!!! I'd like to believe in man like Fran does!
I love this scene!
I've watch this over 50 times 🙌
He does not dance,
he smolders.
Ohhh, the very end of the final dance. He does do that very well.
😂 so true!🔥
Oh YES!
BEAUTIFUL MOVIE !!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🇭🇺
This was always my favorite scene in this movie.
Don't dance for the competition. Dance for your heart!♥
Oh! it is so romantic !!
One of the most sexiest and just wonderful scenes my fav scene of this movie.
LOVE THEM
love this movie. i took a course on following your truth and we watched this movie. but i had loved it for years. i think it would be such a great play!!!
it started as a play and there's been a really great musical in london (sadly didn't last too long - they priced the tickets way too high)
I saw the play in Melbourne and it was absolutely magical
Love this movie so much
Beautiful movie
Minha parte preferida do filme... os olhares deles 😍😍
Always good to look at, beautiful
A wonderful WONDERFUL movie! Even my 16 yr old son that thinks Indiana Jones, the original ghostbusters and star wars are all over rated loved this movie.
My favorite scene in the whole amazing movie.
One of my all time favorite movies. Matric 2000 film study

OMG WHAT
Mind blown!!!! Holy crap haha
OMGosh! That's crazy! You're right!
Oh my goodness I never realized that! Thanks for pointing that out! While we’re at it I’ll point out that in another scene of this movie when they are dancing on the roof thats actually Fran singing “Time after time” (real name Tara Morice) not Cyndi Lauper! I watched that scene in a whole new light knowing it’s actually Fran singing, she has a pretty voice! I like it even better than Cyndi Lauper’s version!
Se alguém tiver esse filme Stricty Ballroom por favor envie para mim, pois eu amo de paixão esse filme, más não consigo assistir ele todo é nem dublado
🤗💛
User yeah he’s so dreamy The only thing is, if I were her, I’d be very apprehensive maybe even walk out because I know I don’t fit the bill his partner does. I’m so sad for Fran her heart aches an she wishes she could be what Scott wants or needs to be for her to be to dance with him but watching the other couple on stage, she realizes he’s a professional she’s not.. she could never do some of the things that’s expected of her- and when she’s told that Scott’s dancing with his previous partner, she’s devastated, but on the same note, she understands why… after watching that couple the woman that he’s going to dance with is a professional as well. When Scott approaches her she tells him you know about how she could never do some of the things that his previous partner can do and he says to her he swears he didn’t know anything about it, he also tells her he’s been training since he was 6 for this but as Scott watches his competition and he hasn’t gone on yet, he realizes Fran has more of a heart, and is genuine and sweet, rather than his partner, who is in it for the competition and Scott really doesn’t matter to her, but Fran does care an secretly is in love with him(but I think he knows anyway.. even before they were dancing together) and then he pulled her aside and dances with her sort of in a way showing her that all that extra fancy stuff doesn’t really matter it’s just for a show …and he’s basically showing her you know I love you I’d rather be dancing with you….
Poor Fran.
Fran is inconceivably cute.
3:13 I forgot Donald Trump was in this.
BRILL
😂Lol
😅😅😅😅
OMG!!! TINA SPARKLE!! YES!!! D : ) SMILEY!! YES ALWAYS!!! GO TINA!!!
vontade de dançar coladin assim
0:06 So the man's allowed to lift the woman off the floor with that move but not with the move Scott did earlier?
Old School with #deltas #hannahmontana 😘
who wrote this bloody screenplay? was it baz luhrmann? its so good - gotta be based on a greek myth or something. he appropriated Romeo and Juliet better than anyone
aju
I would love to dance with you, Vladimir ⭐ 🤗❤💋.
