Sometimes in the near future, CA-99 will have the HOV-2 lanes in Fresno when the population reaches 1,000,000 people. It will be the first non-interstate highway to have the HOV lanes in each direction, but only one lane on each direction, despite of the rapid growth of Fresno California. Hoping to be future I-7, if they decommissioning CA-7 in Imperial County in California, near the Mexican border. CA-7 is one of the shortest State Route in California which is no more then 10 miles in length.

This freeway is very dated, but I've always liked the unique look and character of 1960's California freeways.

"Speed Limit 70, Radar Enforced" Good luck with that :) Cool video! The interchanges with CA-41 and CA-180 are pretty cool.

Kyle: Your vids are a wonderful tool for planning a road trip from Tucson to Salem. Taking I-10 from Tucson to Redlands then north to 99 and the final hook up with I-5 into Oregon. Thanks again!!

Fresno's the largest city in the U.S. not served by an Interstate (Bakersfield is #2). There's been talk of 99 becoming an interstate, but not much in recent years.

I thought I-7 or I-9 in San Joaquin Valley in California is before I-14 in Temple Texas, I-18 in Dallas Texas, I-42 between Raleigh and Morehead City in North Carolina, either I-48 or I-52 will be in Arkansas and Oklahoma, I-53 may connect between Little Rock Arkansas and Jackson Mississippi, I-67 will connect between South Bend and Indianapolis Indiana, and I-92 will be between Upstate of New York and Vermont, but they have beat ahead of either I-7 or I-9 in Central California, which will replace CA-99.

I've been through route 99 soo many times whenever my family and I go to Fresno. I live north of Fresno, my dad lives in the bay area though, a place a million times better than the hot valley 😂

On a tour of Arizona, Nevada, and California, I stayed at a hotel in Fresno that was next to a railroad. It was the morning after a rainy afternoon at Yosemite. I stood outside while waiting for our coach to arrive hoping to get a picture of a passing train. Sadly, not a single train passed by.

Fresno is the largest city in the nation that is not served by an Interstate. I heard that CA-99 might become I-7 or I-9 in the future.

Fresno doesn't give a lot of vibes about being as big as it is driving along 99. Most of Fresno's growth is along CA-41 going North, or CA-180 going East. On a good day going along 99, one can be in and out of Fresno in about 15 minutes. I used to live near Fresno (Kerman, 15 miles East on the 180/145 jct.) as a kid 30 years ago and at that time, Fresno only had 2 freeways, 99 and 41, which only ran North of the 99. The 180 and the 168 freeways didn't exist yet.

True, even Goshen California right outside of Visalia is busier, which is no surprise as Goshen is a major stop for travelers and the growth of Visalia and Hanford has caused loads of vehicles to get on the 198, near 99 in Goshen.

Matthew Johnson I-40 is a little more feasible for me than I-8 because it’s closer. Maybe as funds become available we will see me cover that route one day.
