  • "The fundamental point is that social being requires the sacrifice of a certain amount of individual idiosyncrasies."
Speech by Jordan Peterson who is a clinical psychologist discussing why we need hierarchies of competence in our society.
"You want to live alone in the bush, you gonna starve to dead and be eaten by black flies, it's not a good solution, so you have to cooperate with other people..."

This philosophy has changed my out look on life in a number of ways. I have spent the last 3 years working in a company that did air emissions testing for power plants. I am now working in Japan as an English teacher. What I realized working in the blue collar industry is a number of things but one thing was, I was put in a management position very early on. I probably wasn’t ready for it but the position needed to be filled and I did my best. Some days I would get overwhelmed and ultimately I got demoted because I was unable to pass an exam. Regardless it gave me a look of what it really means to be in a position with a lot of responsibilities. The Vice President of the company was an interesting individual. He had his personality flaws as we l do and we did butt heads on occasion. What I realized though is due to his knowledge and competence people would follow his lead. He once told me “the key is to know 10% more then the person you are talking too.” On top of that, for the most part, he knew how to use people’s strengths and push us to learn. Qualities that make a good leader. I did my best to learn what I could from him. But I imagine it like this - there will be hard times in life. Mentally preparing yourself for those hard times makes you stronger.
The people who hide behind every ism out there are hiding in themselves and in their delusions. When true crisis happen these types of people break like a twig and in some cases decide to take their lives as well as others. Because they have either a warped or nihilistic worldview.
I remember working on a job where there were a lot of problems and the VP showed up and I felt a sense of comfort because he helped us work through the issues. Didn’t scold us, just helped us get it done and told me next time to “watch for these things.” Basically giving me the knowledge to diagnose the issues. That’s the kind of person I want to be. The kind of person where when the world falls away I can still find the strength to stand even when other people are giving up. I don’t think this means being emotionally bankrupt. I think what it means is understanding my own emotions and applying them when necessary and to expand my mental knowledge.
I just find it funny that some people find emotional masculine competence offensive or toxic. I mean. Really? If that’s the case, if something were to happen. Like a building catching on fire. The competent people are going to be the ones running it and putting out the fire and trying to get people out. The emotionally fragile people are going to be the ones filming it for TikTok. You want to know what being a man is? It’s not being buff or stoic. It’s being able to do what is right regardless of the dangers and regardless of what people think of you. Because when the day comes you need to be strong. You will stand firm and the weak will be blown away in the wind.

Can we turn down this music in the background? It shouldn't take any focus away from Dr. Peterson.

I want to believe that hierarchies of competence exist everywhere, but in developing countries, owners of capital get to the top, the corrupt get to the top.

@@odysseymark3571 jordan peterson is a bit naïve about this. Competent high functioning psychopaths run billion dollar companies.

peterson is trying to fool people by conflating natural hierarchy with socially constructed ARTIFICIAL CAPITALIST HIERARCHY.
the hierarchies of capitalism are /\ pyramid shaped, while every natural hierarchy of competence is a bell curve () with few at the top and bottom and the MAJORITY in the middle.
/\ pyramid hierarchies are artificial and integral to capitalism/profit, there has to be a very large base in a capitalist hierarchy in order for profit to be generated, profit is not possible in a natural bell curve hierarchy.
capitalism is UNNATURAL and abusive because of that fact.
      /\ = artificial
      () = natural.

I become sick from sacrificing self in a social enviroment such as my workplace. I came down with ME/CFS and now I don't have the energy to pretend to be someone else. Your surrounding will try to accept you still, but that will cost them mental energy so you will slowly back off into isolation until you stop missing life itself. You do that because it's not confortable being around people faking it all the time. You become cynical and just laugh at the way regular people live their lives. You start to see things from a totally different perspective. You also feel you have nothing to lose. No reputation to lose and such. It took me to develop ME/CFS to learn how to set boundries and build integrity. Being totally worthless at setting boundries before probably created this illness I think. My nervous system couldn't keep up with the people pleasing my former workplace craved.
I think there are built in safety systems in your body going off to prevent you from dying. Creating illness to prevent total system collapse/death.
If I speak with a friend for an hour on the phone I cant do anything else that day. I get fatigued. I can't think. I have to lay down for the rest of the day and even though I'm super tired I often can't sleep. So I can't be awake and I can't sleep. I lay there in a semi uncounsous state for hours until it eventually wears off. Thats my life in a nutshell now.

Please tell me how I can be normal and predictable, when my life is far from being normal and predictable? Amen, yes that would be nice to do, but I have Loki 10 steps ahead always, and he is tough to beat. Even when I shed my devices and try for a normal life, it just gets deeper in the fricken rabbit hole, and flipped upside down continually.

You don't control the world. You control the way you act an react in the world. Aim yourself towards the greatest good YOU can attain. That can be as simple as cleaning your room or it can be more if your capable of it. Prove your capability to yourself a little at a time

The problem is, money is not given based on work complexity or competence. Its given based on supply and demand! Scientists, Teachers, Police, Engineers do not get paid more than people in Finance. Which one contributes MORE to society? Landlords for example get a cut of these people's wages for NOTHING! People with money earn more money over NOTHING! Creating corporations upon corporations which screws over any small companies that the working class are trying to build from the bottom. This is what the YOUTH are ANGRY about!

So what are we gonna do with the bottom of the hierarchy of males? They just gonna suffer? Their the ones carrying society so have some empathy for them and do something more rather than just telling them what to do.
