We already have The Smashing Machine, one of the best documentaries ever, we don't need the rock muddying things up. Mark Kerr's actual life captured on film is better than anything Hollywood can cook up
It is kind of pathetic that the only way Johnson could win a fight is in playing a real fighter.
I agree but at least Kerr will get some appreciation from the general public from it much like Mickey Ward got from The Fighter.
@@Stuart267ngl I feel like he would beat your ass though and I don’t think rock is a fighter
@@Stuart267I think rock could kick your ass though I’m ngl
As good as that doco was i think mark will get more exposure from this film!
Can’t wait for the Rock to play the Rock in another Rocktacular performance
I love how Chael just keeps taking shots at Masvidal 😂
Long May it continue, Masvidal is a scum-bag.
Saw the chael sonnen bio pic the other day, was an amazing film denzel Washington did an amazing job
Who played Kevin Lee?
@@smutleybutchermaybe that’s where Kevin Lee fit into all of this
@@JMA_21I miss the 'so, where dose kevin lee fit into this?' era
Is that the one where Chael shoots that guy in broad daylight for owing him money?
😂😂😂
I remember my first time watching the smashing machine documentary. The friendship between Coleman and Kerr was displayed beautifully. What a time, what a life Kerr had back then. Glad he survived his lifestyle. Actually really looking foward to the movie.
I was beginning to think this film was never going to happen. I have confidence that The Rock will pull it off. He's been maturing as an actor.
Nice coment ❤❤
The original Smashing Machine documentary is great. I don't remember if won awards but it should have.
The main event was Masvidal-Diaz for the BMF.
How is it even possible that Chael of all people forgot that the title for the BMF was the main event
@@zi326 not to mention the rock put the belt on Jorge lol
You guys don’t understand. Chael is trying to forget Masvissl’s name to undermine him 😂😂
@@MrSagarcool14spot on
@@MrSagarcool14why would he do that though?
Chael come on, Syracuse NCAA champs "Gene Mills, mean Gene the pinning machine. You can't forget that guy.
Gene Gene made a machine
Joe Joe made it go
Art Art?
Gene was a two time NCAA champ, may have the most pins of all time.(Some debate about Wade as well, record keeping was an issue back then) He was an Olympic team member and odds on favorite for the gold in the 1980 games that we boycotted, won the Tbilisi tournament And seems like a fun loving guy who does great with young athletes.
Mark Kerr was like 25 when he was in his prime. How is that ever going to work with the rock portraying him?? Plus they look nothing alike.
This would be much better if it were an Indie film with an actor who isnt so recognizable.
It’s not meant to portray his exact likeliness lol it’s a story about his life…
@@AccursedHawkSamuel L Jackson is playing George Washington in his new autobiography. It ain't accurate but it sure as hell is entertaining...
What is the wig going look like? 54 year old man playing a 25 year old? Not a fan of the rock either.
See the thing about it is, it's a movie
@@I.D.I.O.C.R.A.C.Y. i would buy to see that movie
He trained in Los Angeles. He a Amazing man with a big heart & loving. He gave his all. I respect him!!!!
Wait, the rock has to bulk UP to play Mark Kerr? How big was that mfer?
Go watch prime Kerr lol.
Have you ever seen a brick shit house? Well two of those!!
The neck to trap space or lack there of, is different
watch the smashing machine.. Mark was a monster.. a violent giant! but a gentleman. to see him now makes me a little sad. hope hes doing ok.
Lolol😂
I met Mark Kerr at the last ADCC. Actually sat and talked with him over the whole weekend. He is such a cool soul. Really humble human. He was inducted into the ADCC hall of fame that weekend, but hanging out and talking to him you would have thought he was just another fan.
I meet him in Michigan at a king of the cage tournament, I talked to him after the show in the casino, I agree with you, he acted like he really wanted to talk, felt like he was talking to me as if we were friends, we stood talking for a while having a drink, cool and humble. He was still in his prime then, a big beast.
Chael, always appreciate your fight promos and how you articulate everything. Good stuff! West Linn, OR proud. Keep it up!!
why does he always sound so raspy and like he's about to cry ? i was watching his videos from only 2 years ago and he sounds completely different, very energetic, smooth voice and fresh faced, i hope hes alright.
I went to Syracuse class of '08. Never knew Mark Kerr went there.
He didn’t graduate from there, poor grades, he ended up dropping out.
Chael, I just recently subscribed and started watching your podcast show which I enjoy very much. I like you was a wrestler having fun with a degree of success with 2 State titles & finishing in the top 6 in the Nationals. I share this because one of my coaches wrestled at Team Foxcatcher during the 1992 Olympic Trials in Las Vegas. I like you are well aware of how Mark Kerr was one of the most formidable wrestlers and fighters to ever step on the mat or in the ring (ufc). Influential Icon - Great Video 👍
he ain't reading that pal-
Thank you Chael: I too believe Mark Kerr deserves some quality recognition from us all
What a great take, and great tribute on Mark, thanks Uncle Chael 🙏
Surely there is someone other than the rock to play Mark Kerr.
I know the Rock is in incredible shape, but I don't know how he is going to play a 20-something Kerr without some computer/animation magic. Hope it turns out well!
1000% and don't call me Shirley
The rock is the biggest Hollywood movie start on the Earth
Why not have him promote a guy attached to a sport we all like and appreciate.
They can digitize his face and make him look young
@@kidneystonermusic you’re not Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are you?😂
Mark was the first fighter i ever saw. My dad had gotten a bootleg vhs from his mate who had gone on holiday to Russia.
It was a Pride tournament. Mark was smashing dudes, his hands were i presume broken. So before/during they would slice his knuckles to bleed the swelling.
Then eventually he couldn't really use them anymore so he just elbowed this dude into oblivion.
One of the things that shaped my formative years. Inspired.
I met Mark when I was judge at KOTC 6, and I auditioned to play Mark Kerr sometime around 2008 or 2009 I would guess so it floated around Hollyweird a long time after The Smashing Machine documentary. Chael give Wolfman some love some time.
If he does he won't be able to say it right anyway!
Dan,
Ask your buddy Icy Mike about Chael's willingness to do shoutouts
Your way to small lol. Not even close
Why didn't they get bradley martin. He's 260 bro 😂
Who are you?
I’m extremely excited for that to come out. I truly hope that they do a great job in telling the full story and of course accurately. I also hope they add in the Randy couture match, Mark Coleman I find that extremely fascinating how it’s all connected and they’re all legends.
Dwayne “the syringe” Johnson
Bullshit he isn't on gear, never in his life. U see the meals he eats?
Chael "the syringe" sonnen I guess they're brothers😅
You go to bed on your mothers couch 😂😂😂
Hope they talk about Marks brother Nick.
@@clark2491yea, he got only eats chicken and broccoli like the rest of them.. I really hope you're not this naive, man. Not even trying to be disrespectful.
Met him several times in the early 2000’s in phoenix arizona. Great guy, also saw his documentary.
this made me resubscribe. i fooking love the smashing machine. well done
I remember that, when Rock announced the movie and I was shocked no one in the audience cared. Smashing Machine changed my life. I'm 100% seeing this movie
I remember seeing Kerr crank on a guys neck, they called it the can opener. I was like holy crap! Never seen anyone do it before or since.
Shonnen INCROYABLE 💪🥊
I remember meeting Kerr here in Houston when he came out to watch some fights Saul Soliz was putting on. All I can say is he was one of the nicest most respectful guys I’ve ever met. A wrecking machine with an incredible attitude and I wish him absolutely nothing but happiness and the best life has to offer. Stay forever strong Mark!!! 💪👊
I'm so happy to see an MMA pioneer get a movie played by a popular figure like The Rock. So many new fans know next to nothing about the growth of MMA. I have mad respect for The Rock for doing this.
I hope the movie is good, the smashing machine is a great documentary. The movie has the story to be great but we’ll see what they do with it
It should be great the director is the same guy who made that movie uncut gems so very promising
exactly right, I don't think Dwayne has the acting range for this role but, like you said we'll see what they do with it.
Kelvin Gatslum 😂
The Rock may win an academy award for this movie. Perfect choice. Brilliant 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
in The Smashing Machine, if I remember correctly, Bas Rutten was training Kerr for a while and he was also training with Mark Coleman.
"There was extremely few rules." - Chael Sonnen
Perfect timing I just sat down to eat😁🔥
Homemade BBQ pizza...
In wrestling his practice partner was Chris Campbell. I watched them train in 1002 together at Cornell weeks before the Olympics. Chris was the reason he won a national championship. He trained with Chris for 4 consecutive seasons as chris was finishing law school. Gene Mills was also his coach in college. Theres a pic a Mark and Chris in a collar tie in the article about chris in sports illustrated. If you want Mark Kerr info find Chris Campbell for an interview. Dan Gable said Chris was the best wrestler he ever coached. I was at Chris Campbells freestyle camp in 1992 and on the second day chris knew all 40 of our names. He is very impressive. Super intelligent. Someone needs to call Chris about his relationship to Mark Kerr.
You are such a gift to the world of MMA Chael, and you dont even know it
Don’t forget head stomps (Wanderlei), hair pulling (Royce Gracie), and fish hooking (Tank Abbott) !!
And nut shots😂(Keith Hackney)
And oil-checking.
Damn Chael is committed. That can has been glued to his hand since the Jocko sponsorship 😅
Don't know Mark Kerr? Seek out "Mark Kerr the Smashing Machine".
Mark’s brother Nick struggled to turn pro cause commentators didn’t want to say his name fast.
While working as a correctional officer I met Mark Kerr in 1997(?) when he was picked up for possession of drugs (pain killers?) while training Rico Rodriguez for a fight at Foxwoods casino in Connecticut. We processed him into the prison but didn't put him in the bullpen with the rest of the inmates while he waited to bond out, we just had him sit in a plastic chair in the processing room. We had no idea who he was but it was obvious that he wasn't your run of the mill inmate. He had hands the size of my head and had a quiet Michael Jackson-like voice that didn't fit with his looks. He was quiet, polite and respectful. We were pretty astonished later to find out who he really was. I believe his case was eventually dismissed.
What I remember back when his documentary was released is that he did, “some” training with Bas Rutten. But he’s the only one I’m remembering.
The rocks just gonna play himself again.
I know you’re undefeated. But you can’t forget about mean gene mills. 2 time, 2 time, 2 time national champion from Syracuse.
Unfortunately for my cousin he took 2nd 4 years in a row in regions losing to gene mills. It’s great folklore in the fam
Remember seeing Smash Machine a long time ago. Tragic and sad story.
epic. i hope hes doing well.
Remember how Mark was in his 20's during that time frame and how the rock is like 80 now?
11:30 Bas.
I would love to see a documentary on Mark Kerr. He was fun to watch back in the day
There is one! It's excellent
@kidneystonermusic I've seen "The Smashing Machine". I want to see a new one.
Dont forget the Wolf'sbane and the Belladonna. He was on the berserker mix.
4:07 the groin stuff
When kerr threw a hefty bag full of steroids and painkillers in his apartments garbage was crazy to watch. Still one of the best documentaries I’ve seen.
Benny Sadie the director of Uncut Gems doing it!
Bound to be a banger!
It is such a young sport and so many people do not know the history behind it
This is very promising. I hope they do a great job with it. I was trying to direct this film 12 years ago and ironically everyone at WME said nobody cares about fighting. Just me. Now they own the UFC and The Rock is their biggest star. Could be awesome if it pans out the way it should.
Has potential to be amazing I’m hoping it does Him justice.
Rock announced it like 3 years ago think it wss at the 1st BMF fight. Yes got no reaction from the crowd when he announced it cos these are newer fans. So they were unaware of Mark Kerr. So it's surprising he still making it but hopefully it does half decent
My MMA start came with the first match of UFC 1 mixed with Royce Gracie.
The Smashing Machine is a great documentary. Highly recommended if you haven't seen it. Mark was a beast in his prime.
1:49 what's in the can ?
None of them survived. The only man to walk out of a Mark Kerr sparring session was Mark Coleman.
There's already a documentary about Mark Kerr. It's damn good, too.
Uncle Chael where can I window shop those shades?
He trained in South Bay at a gracie gym. Near Manhattan beach
Art Baker, Jim Nance, Tom Schlendorf, Gene Mills and Mark Kerr were each NCAA WRESTLING champions
At the end of smashing machine he was training with Bas.
The Rock is really the only Actor Big enough to play Kerr who can at least Act a little and hopefully isn't a B movie but I'm glad someone is doing it as he had addiction problems but he was a monster and scary guy lol
Mean Gene The Pinning Machine Mills...the Godfather of the Half Nelson...coaches a struggling farm community in Central NYS which now produces state champions year over year. Shout out Coach Mills.
Dana: Max Holloway vs. The Rock for the BMF belt
I saw Kerr fight in the old format of the UFC. Prior to that he fought in Brazil and then PRIDE. He was a pretty good ground n pound fighter. But his decline happend against Igor and Heath Herring. Did he do steroids, yes, but that was the environment then. All of PRIDE was pretty much juiced. I also saw the documentary on Kerr as well. Was a sad story.
God bless Mark Kerr
Hope the movie includes his brothers Steve and Nick
Nick Kerr has a funny ring to it when said 🤔
Smashing Machine blow my mind.
I grew up on PRIDE. Followed him during his run. I always guessed until seeing his doc. Great insight Chael.
I owned that documentary when came out. I had forgotten all about it until now…wow…
While I am NOT A FAN OF Dwayne Johnson, that might be something I watch.
That was diaz masvidal for the bmf at msg
Bas Rutten was a mentor and will play himself in the movie. He also was his friend and tried to get him off the pills
Why do we need this? ... We have "The Smashing Machine" that was great..
The Smashing Machine movie was good enough for me.
Chael willfully ignoring that Bas Rutten exists. He definitely knows that Kerr originally came up under Bas - the clip from the Smashing Machine where Bas Rutten tells Kerr to beat up Rico Rodriguez for being lazy was legendary.
And just like that, in a 12 minute video, Chael explained Mark Kerr's story better than the Rock's movie could.
My friend Gene Mills was a national and world champion.
One of his training partners for striking was Bas Rutten
Rock's basically taking up any role he can to juice freely
'Have we got an award for most ripped junkie?' - Ricky Gervais
I would have been hyped if it was Mark Coleman he was doing one on
😂🤣 Jesus Christ the rock…
Hating doesn't get you nowhere ☝🏿im sure this biopic will be great.
Will the events of the movie focus on Marks life after his fighting career? Thinking of the Rocks age
My opinion, this movie should be about "The Hammer"
I hope Dan Quinn makes a cameo in this movie
He was training with Bas for a bit.
Wait, these guys are almost the same age...how is DJ playing him in the biopic?
Biopic of the Diaz Bros
Pretty sure uncle chael. When The Rock announced he would be filming. A movie based on The Smashing Machine Mark Kerr. Is referring to Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz in New York City Madison Square Garden. For the original BMF Belt. It's the one where The Rock puts the BMF Belt on Gamebred. The reason I remember it. Is because I will always remember. It was right before the world went to shit ala COVID-19 Plandemic. Or maybe Ole Chael P is playing the 3-D Chess here. Doesnt wanna credit Gamebred. Because he won that event. Just genius stuff here from Mr. West Linn Gangsta
I remember that, the announcement went flat. I thought the same thing- flop. But here we are.
Why couldn't they use reacher
??? He didn't train with Colman and Randalman in Columbus ???
Would've been a lot better if he played a young Victor Belfort
This is a case of gatekeeping a type of casting as opposed to being pigeon-holed type casting.
The Rock is 51 playing a guy who was active in his mid to late 20's and died at 55.
I know we're talking about fantasy land role-playing acting but this is almost feels angry on the part of The Rock and the studio.
Mark Kerr never had to wear dwayne’s shoes.
