  • From brilliant ideas executed poorly, to gallant attempts not paying off, and some just plain awful attempts at sporting tasks. The Taskmaster's sporting challenges see Russell Howard have a darts disaster, Iain Stirling off target, Desiree Burch attempt goalkeeping and James Acaster attempt at golf more fail in some style!

    In an age of inexplicable stupidity, as the very value of education and knowledge is being challenged, I have yet to witness anything quite so mindbogglingly incomprehensible as Lolly choosing the pencil and coconut.

    I clicked for Iain and Lolly, but I'll never say no to a bit of Morgana in the morning.

    Russell wasn't an epic sporting failure. He was extremely unlucky.
    I calculated it about a month ago and found the odds of hitting the board 8 times and only scoring 3 was around 1-in-430 or 1-in-440.
    I assumed that any dart that hit the board would be random and independent. From 10 m, that's a reasonable assumption. Based on his actual spread, perhaps the numbers on the lower half of the board were more likely, but that complicates things.
    A random dart that hits the board would be in the scoring area 55.7% of the time [(13.25" / 17.75")² = 55.7%). The odds of 0 or 1 dart out 8 hitting the scoring area is around 1.63%. Of those, I assumed only 14% would be either a single 3, single 2, or any 1. I didn't bother to be precise with the double/triple rings plus bullseyes. I also ignored the even more unlikely cases of having 2 or 3 darts score, but his score being 3 or fewer.
    WIth those assumptions, I calculated it as 1-in-437.
    This is one of the most extreme instances of luck in Taskmaster history. It's an order of magnitude less than Jo Brand's Horse-or-Laminator performance (1-in-8192), assuming those were true coinflips. Otherwise, this is arguably the most extreme case, ignoring things like the bad luck of being David Baddiel...at least as far as Taskmaster is concerned.
    Tim Vine knocking a hook off the scale and having it catch on his epaulet was extremely unlucky, but I don't know how to calculate that.

    I’m sorry, but you can’t have a Taskmaster epic sports failures video without Joe Wilkonson’s disqualification from the potato toss.

      Indeed one of the most epic moments of the show. Not sure if spud-tossing is a proper sport though. Having said that, neither is football, so you're probably right...

    If Iain Stirling had put the second goal beside the first, instead of in front, he'd have been in with a chance.

    TBF at this point Taskmaster is a sport.

      The power of editing

    • @idontevenlikemoney
      @idontevenlikemoney Před 3 měsíci

      It's not even editing. It's just everyone's (including my own) lack of understanding of darts. Just cause you hit the board doesn't mean you got them within the score zones. Lol.@@smurfette_blues7922

  • @maccoscair
    @maccoscair Před rokem +19

    Desiree actually won the task. Alex did not score a goal on her, she scored an own goal by kicking his shot into the net. Technically he didn't score only provided an assist.
