- What is this metal rattling noise i get when i accelerate past 2500rpm with overdrive on? Some say its poor octane fuel, other say its fan clutch and other say its automatic transmission not shifting right.
What could it be?
same thing on my 2011 crown vic p7b, any recent findings? my dad was suggesting poor octane or something like that but based on what I'm seeing here you've already tried that
True 93 octane gas. It helped mine
Anyone find out I have the same issue right now and can’t figure it out I’m thinking wheel bearing or torque converter
If it leaves u stranded and can't get it started it's the piston rings getting too hot and rubbing against the piston shaft this happens when running too rich on high octane gass and could potentially lock up ur engine at too high of rpm without shifting transmission and O2 sensor could cause this to happen too this helps regulate fuel and gass mixture during combustion
My issue was engine without oil. For some reason i changed it and only 2 liters came out of it.
No leaks. So no idea what happened. Im keeping an eye and see if it burns but theres no weird smoke in the pipes
It runs smooth now
I found out using a regular unleaded gas instead of the ones with ethanol removes the rustling sound.
My 212cc go-kart motor does the same thing I think it's the metal splash guard rattling lol smh it's no big issue loose bolts just tighten them
fuel injectors ?
I saw a comment about replacing the maf sensor.
Indeed! Check first comment.
Has any one found the problem I read almost all the convos lol
Um sir why does tour ford have 160 on the dash lol mines meter past 120 ony any of my ford
Did anyone try the DPFE sensor? I’m having the same issue and have seen a few people say that solves it completely.
i changed it for a new motorcraft, no improvement.
Man that sounds like detonation
It sounds terrible, doesnt happen if i go slow. And since im not racing i dont worry.. though i still want to know what it is and how to stop it. Any clues?
My 4.6 crown Vic does this. I’m not too sure what it could possibly be honestly
I’ve been trying to figure it out for about a month now, I’ve changed my plugs, engine sounds rather healthy driving normal. Just when I get on it.
@@ZerkSaysWTF replace your mass air flow sensor. Mine did the same thing until I replaced it. Runs like new now!
@@ZerkSaysWTF mass air flow!
I'm hearing that and finally heard it while idling. It was coming from the bell housing??
Bell housing? And what would be the fix?
Cats
Exact same sound, exact same truck! Please update if you find a solution!
Check first comment. Problem 90% fixed. :)
I hear this on my single cab 98
Did you fix this? This is pretty much the sound my 2005 Ford Explorer 4.0 v6 makes around 3000 rpms, it has a slight rough idle also and codes p0172(bank 1 too rich) and p0174(bank 2 too lean)
I still cant find a fix for this. I wish i had. Ive been thinking about the maf sensor, or maybe its inside the engine (pistons misfiring) or something related to bad mixture of gasoline.
When i check obd2 it says Lean to rich sensor threshold voltage (constant) - Monitor ID (MID) $51 .. ive changed front oxygen sensors, im missing the 2 on the back. Still it could be bad connectors or things such as vaccum leak.
This is the resume of my investigation. What have you tried?
@@litoid well its been 2 years since ive had the issue, originally it started off as a crack in the rear of my valve cover on my ford explorer, i had that replaced with a 2nd hand one and new gasket but i still had a rough idle and codes p0172 bank 1 too rich and p0174 bank 2 too lean. I had my 02 sensors checked and 1 was replaced and the coolant sensor, i changed out my spark plugs and leads, my fuel filter. Had taken it to 5 different mechanics, 1 said just have to replace parts until its fixed another said it could be timing chain issue. 1 mechanic said clogged cats so had another mechanic inspect and he heated them up with gas torch and blew some shit out and now it runs better more power but still having the slight rough idle and miss at startup and also that weird noise when i drive that happens around 3000 rpms. I replaced the serpentine belt tensioner also cause mechanic said it shouldn't be shaking but it still does it lol I've cleaned the maf sensor but still the same so might change it out for new 1 not sure yet? 1 mechanic said theres a air leak just have to find it could be coming from intake manifold gaskets🤷♂️ but yea 2 years later still trying🙄🤣
@@litoid @Eduardo yesterday i found out my pulley on my power steering moves in and out like 5mm so thought that was odd, i did notice it last year but it wasn't as bad as what it is now. My truck can only go to 3000 rpms while sitting in park, is yours the same? I was playing around with steering wheel yesterday while sitting in park and kept making a little squeek noise while turning and almost sounded like it was going to cut out so i started reving it and when i hit 3000 rpm it started making that weird noise the one that usually happens only when im driving, so kept turning wheel and it started to get worst. Turned off my truck, checked engine and there was oil leak sprayed everywhere around my serpentine belt, checked the power steering pump bearing and theres oil coming from the shaft, so gona have to replace that 😅 kind of thinking i may have found my problem but not sure until i replace the power steering pump lol maybe check yours out see what happens or play around with the steering while in park and rev it like i did 🤣
czcams.com/video/Y0eZSOvDlEM/video.html heres a couple videos of the sound im getting in mine, let me know if it sounds like yours (im thinking it is thats why im on your video🤣)

Where did u get that instrument cluster
What do you mean? Its default on this lariat 4x4 version...
@@litoid I didn’t know I have the 2WD 4.6 but it goes to 100 I’m looking for one too hook on to a 97
Did anyone figure out what was that rustling noise during high rpm? My 1998 Ford 4.6 2v has the same issue.
Maf sensor, low octane, transmission or air vacuum leak. also pistons or lifters, is what I've been told. Who knows what exactly it is... definitely not want to accept it's low octane engine, since it's supposed to be 87 and it's way cheaper than "high" octane. when i drove with better octane gas i had the same issue, but "less volume" sound. It was still there.
@@litoid Please give me update on replacing the mass air flow sensor. This is an expensive parts to replace. I'm wondering if cleaning it would help.
@@noblefriend8112 i cleaned it. No difference.maybe its damaged beyond cleaning. Ill remove it again and retest when i can. It will be rought start in the city to test. I should go on highway.
Same year same problem did u ever find it?
noblefriend did you ever get a fix?
I have the same rattling sound when I accelerate on my
04 F150 especially going uphill but goes away instantly after I let go of the gas! So was it the mass airflow sensor?
Uff my.friend im still investigating what this is... If you find what is it let me know
@@duke9620 Sounds like marbles rattling around?
@@litoidever find out the problem having the same issue rn
@@toddburgard807 IK im late but did you ever solve this?
No. Got worse. Sold the truck.@@dorbinop4468
had you found the problem yet? could be transmission fluid level is low?
It's not low, but i have thought its maybe the transmission since it happens in 2nd and 3rd gear. never in the 1st gear even if i step to the ground on gas. specially when recently shifting up. I've been told not to open the transmission since it's bullet proof, but it's been 20 years and i have no idea what the previous owners have done. people here just say it's the gasoline octane.
It’s probably one of your 02 sensors that’s loose
They are all new and changed... :/
@@litoid ohh damm, only thing other than that could be your heat shield is probably hitting the exhaust
@@Puyita121 ive never thought of this... Vibration.. only sounds bad when gears just shifted and im accelerating hard. Then it goes away, if i keep accelerating steadily.
I have no idea what this is and i dont want to.think its octane. Heat shield is interesting
i have the same on my 2006 grand marquis & i dont know why
me too i’m trying to find the issue
i have the same problem please help
Did you ever figure out what that was?
No.. some experts say its gas octane being poor. This big tank is expensive to fill with quality gas and since i dont race or need full power i dont mind. But i still want to fix it..
Mass air flow sensor. Mine was doing the same thing. Replaced it and ran like new!
Im serious! Replace the mass air flow sensor. Or just unpluging it makes a huge difference. It will hesitate on take off but thats all if you unplug it.
@@timosness3667 unpluging it makes a difference? Hmm Unplugging, you mean the electric part, the black thing. Just d/c and try it. Ok I'll try it tomorrow and see what happens.
Yes just unplug the mass air flow connection and just drive it. It will run bad on takeoff and hesitate. But will run fine after that
Dpfe sensor is the problem just fixed my own truck. Its now 100 percent fixed.if anyone has a question of why its this sensor or how its this sensor making this noise just leave a comment and I will explain
What is the DPFE sensor? Where its located and why it cause this issue?
Let us know what you know. It may help more people! Thanks
Hey im still wondering and waiting for your reply
For he in fact never explained
Bro never responded
It’s the cats
I changed them expecting it to be fixed - and nope.
@@litoid I find it interesting that a mass air flow would make the sound of loose pebbles disappear
@@wyattyeary8050 it has improved yeah but not definitely gone. Some say its the 420.000km in it other say its the bad octane from fuel.
Mass air flow makes.sense. if it reads bad flow then it mixes wrong ratio which makes engine.knock.
@@litoid check spark plugs gap too.
@@insus100 the gap? Because they are new
Mine did the same and just died along the road
Im sorry to hear that. Apparently my case was no oil in the engine. Somehow it disappeared. No leak, no smoke. Changed oil, only 1.5 liters came out.... Its full and running smooth now. I added "ceratec" from liqui moly as well.
@@litoid tried that and nothing
Mine does that too wtf 😂😂😂
This is an update for everyone watching this video.
I got recommended to change maf sensor but first disconnect to try it. It improved but couldn't start moving comfortably...
So i decided to change MAF sensor used oem from ebay. And its 90% fixed!

Still sounds when gear shifts. But now i do feel the power of v8!

Update
It always happen when shift recently occurs and ive been accelerating hard.
I have replaced mine and it still sounds in low rpms
did you ever fix it completely im having this issue right now
I am a little confused of what fixed the clattering sound when accelerating. For me I get the problem when I accelerate let’s say past 75% throttle or if I am in high gear and try to pick up speed and there is an incline.
Sounds like you said the MAF sensor fixed your issue but I feel like you had an issue with your sensor and you still have the same issue as before.
I have always been under the impression that my lifters needed adjusting and at higher rpm’s or when I am working the engine a little harder it starts to clatter or tick.
