Quicksilver GT500 - Walk Around and Demo Flight

- This 2013 Quicksilver GT500 has been sold.
Registered as an Advanced Ultralight in Canada. It's registration letters are C-IKIY.
It was acquired as an abandoned project. It sat unattended and deteriorated as planes do when they're not being used and so a lot of the aircraft is comprised of brand new parts and materials. Parts and support are still available as the aircraft is currently still in production.
- all new aircraft grade hardware wherever it was needed
- new parts from Quicksilver where needed (there were some dented and damaged tubes)
- brand new fabric for the main wings, flaps, ailerons, horizontal stabilizer and elevator, (vertical stabilizer, rudder, and cockpit fabric all tested above the recommended strength)
The engine was torn down, inspected, and re-built by a certified Rotax tech. It has been broken in and the plane has been flown several times. It currently has around 15 hours on the Hobbs (hour meter) but you can expect that time to go up as I plan to continue to fly it until it sells because it's just so much fun.
It has a lot of power. The engine is a 4-stroke, 4 cylinder, 80hp Rotax 912 UL swinging a 70" 3-blade Warp Drive prop. It's turning 5400 rpm static and it climbs like a homesick angel. Initial observations are showing 80 mph at 4500 rpm. Take-off and landing distances are both well under 500 feet.
Empty weight is 650 lbs, gross weight is 1100lbs, fuel capacity is 16 US gallons.
This is practically a brand new plane. Factory list price for this model is currently $50,190 US with the same engine and $33,565 US without.

We're only asking $28,000 US for this one.

Very true my friend !
of course' especially when they are pre made to happen _ unverified trust is logic not _
One of the better demo videos that I've watched. Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful aircraft! Looks like it’s been very well taken care of. It’s got all the bells and whistle‘s!
Beautiful Plane. You greased that Landing ☝️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏼👌. Hope that you found a good new home for your plane. Great 👍🏼 Video. Excellent way of showing your plane and how it performs. Thank you 🙏 so much for taking us flying with you. Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Impressive, it's look so stable and fun to fly
Thank you Matt, that was fun!
Definitely a share video. That was a good watch👍 Thanks
Great looking lane. Loved the video :)
I do enjoy your videos and thank you for doing them. A lot of info.
Excellent camera operation !!
an informative walk-around and flight test!
It would be easier to pull off the "Low oil" label from that light and put one on that read "Power", or "on", or something like that.
Mr. Johnson you are a man who sees the glass half-full.
@@micknielsen7102 No, just lazy.
How about camera on.
Pretty cool plane mmatt thanks love your videos! Keeping it real.
Well done. Nice plane!
Thanks for the video. Good luck on the sale.
Awesome little plane.. looks like a lot of fun to fly this :)
Hey Matt I am in FL so too far to fetch it. However, you inspired me to buy one of these down here. Great Plane.
mmatt we all come with gifts on earth and yours is making Aviation pleasing to us all. We feel joy ,love and a sense of freedom when we see you fly and hear your voice and for a moment in time we feel what you feel ,going up ,down ,turning ,stalling and landing and its Beautiful and Wonderful. Thank you for sharing your gift with us and making us all happy.
Very nice and well kept aircraft. Darn, if I could I buy it.
You have some, if not the best videos on CZcams. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like them! :-)
Excellent Flying With a very good Instructor. 5/18/2021
Sweet gt 500 nice landing a plus vid you da man bro
Thanks for the video.
that was one incredible external camera. It deserves a video of it own. zero deg. C. certainly warrants the fully enclosed cockpit.
All the best from an old DHC 1 trained pilot, and an aviation tragic.
Cheers from Sunny Queensland , keep safe during your winter and fly safely.
Thanks! I did a video review of the camera last year. Here's a link in case you don't want to go looking for it.

Chipmunks are cool. :-)
What a great plane!
Nice flight
Great vid Matt. Wish I was ready to purchase I would be up in an hour, I just live in Fredericton area. I am just looking to take a course now to get started. Keep up the great vids my man. cheers
Thanks Matt, I checked out the camera vid that you recommended. I was initially gobsmacked when you were climbing out and the horizon stayed where it was supposed to be. Certainly a great piece of kit.
Cheers from Downunder 👍😷🇦🇺🇨🇦
What are you asking for the plane or is it sold
Wow, very cool ultralite. A dble seater, bak seat can b used as trunk space, enuf 4 camping equipment. Enclosed cockpit 2 keep wind out of yur face. Best part is U're having fun. Thx 4 the multi-angle cameras. Thx 4 sharing on Utube.
well with part 103 enclosed is really not an option. lotta stuff goes bye-bye with that stupid qualification with comfort just being one of them. yeah how about sporting a reliable ENGINE for another (its just about impossible to sport a 4 cycle like this under its severe restriction and still be able to actually get in the air to begin with). Tell you what the politicians that write these rules have NO fucken brains!
I flew a Quicksilver forty years ago. Good flying airplane
I just bought a Quicksilver MX out of Texas that has been hangered its entire life. These planes are so much fun!
I'd love to try one of those, they look like so much fun. :-)
Dawson Runan, I have a friend who has a disassembled Quicksilver MX in his garage. How did you check it for airworthiness before you bought it or flew it for the first time?
Nice plane 👍
Great video
Nice aircraft!
this thing is freakin sweet!
Fun little bird. The 80hp 912 motor makes it a reliable machine. I want to build a Dragonfly MII with 130mph cruise/ 170+ max as it’s such a beautiful looking /well handling plane.
"Start a right hand turn" goes left. I dont know what I like more, the flying or how silly you are. We'll just say both! Cheers from Alberta!
left, right... whatever... :-P
Glad you enjoyed it! :-)
left=right in Canada. Hilarious! I loved the video, Sir. Beautiful country I live in flatland, FL.
That is so cool. I've always wanted to learn how to fly. I hope to make it happen one day.
Has that day come yet?
Great demo. Would love to own this but winds where I live a rough.
Beatifull plane.
I love that GT 500!
Who doesn’t
G'day from Australia. A lot of warning lights and gauges work with ground wire activation. You could probably look at the bulb socket to see if there is any possible signs of a short circuit. Thanks for the video.
Wow! I wish I had one:)
Muito bom gostei!

You look to be a good pilot, I would love to have the aircraft if I lived close enough to fly it home but I would want radio’s in it just to be safer. Good job
Yes definitely. A radio is very easy to install.
Greating LOOKING.
Watching from Philippines
Nice ULM
I'd like to buy it but in this situation of Corona , we don't know what will happen in moments.
Many thanks
FR from Switzerland.
Oh my goodness how I wish I could buy it and bring it over here to England!!
Wow, you got JJ Abrams to film the outro, huh? Nice! Kidding aside, great video, nice little plane
Nice!!
NICE VIDEO. AND AMONG OTHER THINGS , HOW DID U GET THOSE VIEWS ? AMAZING.
Nice ultralight
Lite sport not ultralite in is
nice video, and thank you for talking in American measurements.
@Justice Sickles.. Imperial Rome.. Roman numerals have no zero and.. mathematics is impossible without a zero.. almost all Americans tell me they think math is hard.. fractions are.. and.. along with the Roman numerals.. belong in a museum
my father's slide rule had a scale for thousandths... and either you start with them... or you must calculate using fractions... and.. it gives 3 decimal accuracy on absolutely arbitrary numbers.. I walked 5 miles for a boy scout merit badge.. had to regurgitate the number of feet in a mile.. I never remember the mutha fuka.. because it's absolutely arbitrary.. it's 10,000 paces for a Roman soldier or.. probably not.. because.. it's not tied to the real World in any way.. not even a little bit
I know how many millimeters are in a meter.. and I don't have to guess
kilometers.. ditto... the name says it all
I can do 5s and 10s in my head... the rest is just 1, 2, 3... there's only 9 characters.. and zero.. the placeholder
people who grow up using the abacus use the 5th column to begin calculations.. 4 decimals accuracy each time.. that's why their machines work so well.. and they appear to be better at mathematics.. because they aren't trying to multiply fractions
so.. my wife told me she doesn't understand metric.. 35 years.. and, finally a couple years ago I say... it's like making change for a dollar... voila...a new metric user
2 paces.. or our outstretched arms are ==>> 1 meter
an el.. palm to elbow is 25cm..
water freezes at 0°.. boils at 100°
it's not difficult at all
A dyslexic pilot selling his airplane: sometimes the universe makes sense.
Why such a high stall speed? What would it need to get
The stall speed
Down to about 25 mph?
@@mikemiller8927 your death
Realy nice plane wish I knew how to fly and had the money I love those small planes
The plane is about 30k brand knew, if you want one used you can find one for about 10k, and the class is probably gonna cost a total of 3k because you also have to take ground school.
Great Video! Can turn on a cloud that Plane.
Great Video Matt, I knew that would climb better than 1000fpm, still trying to convince my buddy he needs it.. Down River Tim (Oak Point Area)
He should totally buy it... :-)
@@mmatt I know that and you know that but he is still unsure. I'm hoping to bring him up with me sometime this winter if you still have it so he can see it touch it smell it in person lol..
May have a short to power or ground , not sure how its wired or what its wired to but it should in theory only be getting power or ground through the sensor, when the oil level is low. If its just on all the time there may be a short inside of the sensor itself, or a short to ground somewhere in the wiring for the light. Assuming its ground switched.
Wow that's a nice plane for sure. Absolutely perfect landing I noticed the power off just glided right down but had plenty of obvious air speed. Experiienced PIC makes it look SO easy! That oil light warning needs a circuit to detect nominal pressure.. The circuit could check both too low or too high and light the indicator. Wish I was there as I'm a retired electrical engineer and there's plenty of pressure detectors that output a digital binary range based upon pressure input. Typical vehicle "idiot" lights are lit up by the ECM in a similar manner.
How hard is it to remove the wings for transport and to reinstall afterwards and do you have any videos showing removal?
Hello from Aylmer ON.
Thank for an excellent video, this exactly the info I was looking.
I use to own an advanced ultralight or home built with a 582 2 cycle rotax way back and now I’m getting the flying fever again.
Currently we’re building a house but next year I’ll be looking seriously for something like this one, a used quicksilver or similar.
I would like to know how far I could cruise at 70 with 60 litres of fuel,
check the wiring sound likes its powered direct to switch. Is it grounded right? just a guess.
About the oil.... try to check the oil pressure switch. For sure the engine has a pressure switch to check oil low pressure (every thermal engine has it).
Usually when oil press light goes off when you know for sure there is positive oil pressure (like in your case) means the pressure switch does not work good.
To check it, identify where the pressure switch is located, turn the engine on and electrically unplug the pressure switch connector, it the red light turns off, you found your problem.
Let me know if you want or feel free to send me a message to investigate further.
Thank you for the suggestion. I will check that out at my earliest opportunity. :-)
@@mmatt anytime man!
I have an MXL sport but I’d LOVE to have a GT 400 or 500!
And I'd love to have an MXL! :-)
Remove the sender wire from both ends & ohm test it, then test either end to ground & that should show an open circuit. If that's good, test the sender.
There's more to it than that. Acts like a total open circuit there.
Matt, please overlook my ignorance, I now see how to contacvt you
thanks
Does it have cabin heat? Very nice looking aircraft, how much are you asking
I just adore the microlights WITH A YOKE
BTW I knew you were a Canadian the moment you said your first ''out''
somehow, what is missing is ''eh'' (multiple, of course)
Right... all Canadians it shows there in the dialect. that's the only ethnicity that's enunciates in that manner on that particular word. Very distinctive that we in the states or England or Aussie cannot duplicate.
no, i did not the obligatory eh ... every five seconds
Damn, how much room do you need to take off in that it seems like my yard could be a runway
I noticed it look like it was a short take off pretty good
Did it take long to get used to it going left when you turn right? :P Jokes aside, it looks like a great little plane.
Nice aircraft, great video. One question, what is the provision for carb heat if any?
There isn't carb heat on this engine although it is available as an after-market kit. Carb icing is rare (but not impossible) on these carbs so many people don't bother installing it.
@@mmatt you could easily grab a mikuni carb off a 2006 yamaha rhino 660 or literally any year honda rancher or foreman and have carb heat. Easy as shit to tune and a direct replacement for that 951 mikuni.
would love to have a plane like this Quicksilver GT500 in Morocco :)
consider getting a portable handheld radio for 200-300? nicec flight
I wonder if you have 100% antifreeze in it. So you know it won't freeze
Nice bird is that identification number a Canidian regestration? US registration start with N followed by numbers. Cute little bird you have a a score for some pilot.
Good vid matt,, enjoyed muchly!
Question,, to enter controlled airspace or land at a class d airport.( cyqm,,cyyg,,cyhz) Does this plane require a transponder as well as a radio?.
Yes to both. Most guys around here (including me) rig up a handheld radio with a headset adapter as they are relatively inexpensive and work really well so long as you have an external antenna. No cheap option for a transponder though I don't think. lol
Hi is this an ultr!light 103?
Is it considered an experimental airplane?
I need this dear
What kind of external camera is that? Great, pan, tilt & zoom!
It's an Insta 360 One X
i came here from the kijiji ad to say what a great video. I'm merely a tire kicker. I haven't yet started trying to get my license. but man... what a great video.
No better way to get motivated to get your licence than to already own an airplane! :-)
Then you can train in your own plane and save quite a bit of money since you won't have to rent one. Plus, no transition training is required! It's a win-win! :-)
9:00 Sounds like thermostat may be "slow" acting or stuck, if temperatures do not stay high enough. Reducing radiator area does not seem like correct fix.
Covering the radiator did actually fix the problem for now, but you're right, the thermostat should be keeping the temps up. I'll check with the mechanic and ask about that.
My mechanic says there isn't a coolant thermostat, just one for the oil. So I guess that explains that... lol
@@mmatt all liquid cooled engines require a thermostat. Consistent operating temperature is the reason for liquid cooling. Maybe consider talking to Rotax for a safe solution. Nice video, thank you!
@@Skyhawk945 I have confirmed with Rotax that 912 engines do not come equipped with coolant thermostats. The solution they offer is cover part of the radiator which is what I've done. Aftermarket thermostats and installation kits are available though and if I were to keep this plane, that's what I'd get.
If this is for sale I’m interested!!!
How much to install floats on it?
for that peticular plane is it possible to mount a radio in both the front and back and maybe have a PTT switch on the helm or idk somewhere thats ez to swap between in cabin and ATC thats just me i prefer to have a radio its safer that way
Installing radios is relatively easy. This plane now has a radio with a PTT switch mounted on the front control column. Putting a second PTT switch in the back would be easy to do as well if you wanted to.
Probably a faulty ground or a short in the wiring or a wire touching some other metal in the aircraft just a thought
Hello, I really like the gt 500, the problem is that I live in Spain ... and transport will not be easy ... I hope you were closer, I would be happy to make you an offer. Do you know if exportation would be possible?
Great video. Im a little too big for this one but love the camara and how you make a great film. How do you do that?
It's a 360 camera. They film a 360 degree sphere continuously and then I pick the angle I want to see when I edit.
I was gonna say a gimbal...but this is much better...a 360...perfect. Meanwhile, here in Texas with almost year around perfect flying weather...lol...I'll wish and pray for the lottery. Great little plane and I'd love the trip to pick her up and fly her back. Thanks for the vid.
It's a 2 passenger but the U.S. only allows a single seat unless you have a 103 sport license, so as long as you can squeeze into the seat it'll haul you around
Oil pressure light, bad ground?
The oil light could be working in reverse of a normal light
Thank you for a nice presentation how much is the Aircraft I’m in the US let me know thank you
It currently works out to about $27k USD
Coool beans
I have a T-Bird II with a 582 Blue Top that I was looking at selling. I keep seeing these videos and ask myself,,,, why in the world do I want to sell her. Thanks for the video.
Ken, are you still interested in selling your Thunderbird 2? I’m looking for one. Thanks
Nice. How much?
Matt, I have been watching your videos over the years, and you do a fine job. Entry into the seat seat looks complicated, IS IT ? I have watched many videos on this aircraft, and cant find one where someone is climbing in. 🤔
I meant to say REAR seat. Thanks
The rear seat definitely requires a bit of contortion. As long as an individual is at least mostly able-bodied though, it can be done and it gets easier each time you do it once you figure out the trick.
@@mmatt I managed to find one average sized lady get in going body first, then legs. I also found a manual jn France for GT500. The engineering seemed excessive compared to similar aircraft from the time. You may have noticed some of that detail. Keep up the Good videos, and thanks from the North End of the Big Island.
Very great video for youtuble.. I am new at youtube and light flyng.
Hey I'm from halifax nova scotia I'm been lookin for a ultra light do you still have it for sale if so may I ask how much are you asking
Sorry, it has been sold
Matt do you train people from the United States and if you do what is the requirements to be trained under your Training and I would also like to know how much the GT 500 will cost that your selling I might begin interested both.
I will train anyone who wants to learn how to fly. The hours you fly in Canada won't count toward the hours you need in the US though since the training requirements and standards are different. You'll still know how to fly, you just won't be able to use those hours to apply for a US licence. The GT500 is currently listed at $27,000 USD.
Beautiful little plane. No carb heat? What airport is that? Right is left, left is right, 😂nice flight
No carb heat. It's a option on the 912 but the previous owner didn't opt for it. We just don't fly it when the temperature / dewpoint spread is low.
