Who Needs a Helicopter with 30 mph Wind?!?
zhlédnutí 2,6KPřed 3 měsíci
The wind on the ground was only blowing 8 mph (13km/h) but at 500 feet up, it was almost 30. Slowing down to 40 mph allowed me to fly at only 10 mph over the ground which seemed like I wasn't moving at all! I didn't expect this to be a very interesting flight so I didn't have my cameras with me which is why we're stuck with cellphone footage. Sorry about that.

Enjoyed your video. What state are you in?
New Brunswick, Canada.
Fun flight. Congratulations on the 10K. Joe
Listen to the report, he obviously used the .223
That sounds like it would be a lot of fun! :-)
Te invito a volar con mi avión beaver, y disfrutamos de una nueva aventura. "Edwin Castro 5115" CZcams. Un abrazo a la distancia
I just discovered your channel. Watched your takeoff on skis, too! I just love watching STOLs, and you're obviously having a blast with yours! We live less than 2 hours' drive apart. 1st time a youtuber has lived that close to me. My legs no longer work properly, so i fly with MSFS2020 on an Xbox.
Nice! We should fly together on MSFS sometime! My username on there is YTmmatt. Feel free to add me as a friend!
Diggin seeing these older videos. 👊
Terriffic camera work! (Former Avid Flyer builder here.) Makes me wanna' get back!
Hey Matt. You have the best videos on CZcams. I was on vacation in New Brunswick and dropped by your airport, hoping to catch you there. But lady luck was not with me on Saturday. Anyhow keep up the great work!! John
I heard that we just missed each other. Violet and I went to a fly-in breakfast in Havelock. Next time you're here, let me know in advance and I'll do my best to be around. :-)
Cleared to land and cleared to land again. Great video Matt!
Very nice , what range can U get out of 40 ltr or 10 gallon without wind from any direction ?
About 120 miles safely
Oh! Canada. OH.... canada. Commiegov.com
Cool video!
A friend of mine had one of these beavers and he had a wing strut bolt shear off on a takeoff. Luckily he was only a couple feet off the ground when it happened and only sustained a couple bruises.
Crazy!
Where the 701
Sold it.
share how do you record the audio ,I start flying a phantom I got some videos on CZcams
Make sure you have a camera with an audio in port, then plug that into the intercom. Simple as that. :-)
@@mmatt that’s you so much ,I fly the phantom ultralight .
@@DanielHunterUSA Very cool! I just checked out a few of your videos. You should definitely record some audio! 🙂 Do you ever do aerobatics in it? They are capable of that, right?
@@mmatt the phantom is capable of aerobatic but I don’t think I have the courage to do it lol ,I’m from Brasil live here in Indiana for 24 years so my videos are most in Portuguese lol .I haven’t flown in 7 years so I’m still braking the ice .
This thing sucks
So I've done a little studying before picking my flight course. Is the fuel cap for Ultralights still 5 gallons ? Or is there a way around this ? I really want to be able to use my aircraft for longer, remote camping trips.
If you're in Canada, there is no fuel limit for ULs.
I believe what we have here is, "Failure to communicate" The builder clearly said '17' minutes and the narrator got it Wrong and said '70' minutes.
Great vid! Hey what helmet/headset/mic combo are you using?
It's a BMX helmet from Walmart with a disassembled David Clark H10-13.4 headset bolted to it. I use an oversized mic muff and leather pouch from Oregon Aero to help block the engine and wind noise.
@@mmatt haha nice! It looks good!
Well. . . This is the third video I've watched from your channel. You've really done it now dude. As soon as I am able to, I'm booking my flight school and getting me a bird. hahaha. Thanks for the future much needed hobby. hitting that subscribe button right meow.
Forward assist doesn’t work with this kit unless you by the forward assist kit for the kit.
The forward assist was never supposed to be invented so you aren’t meant to use it at all
I like that you checked to see if it was loaded after you dropped the trigger with the water weight on it. Otherwise, very informative.
Clips are simply out of sequence is all. But nice catch! 🙂
dudes !! next time, half cook the dogs then wrap them with bannock dough an cook it all on the stick. here in Saskatchewan we call them bannock dogs
That sounds delicious!
@@mmatt I do alot of ultra light weight weekend camping trips. quick and easy is the name of the game.
I'm not convinced these things operate on a pure blowback mechanism since that little nub of a gas key does actually engage the gas tube, plus I've had nothing but trouble with them on mid length gas systems but they run like a dream on carbine length ones.
Nice project. It would be a lot safer to use LIFP04 battery's, lighter and more power.
The rock circles in the 12 minute field were unique. I haven't seen that in the others. Is that where they just randomly started pilings the rocks from the field? Plant a flag in the middle of one of them 😄
I definitely want to go back to that field and explore it on foot a bit. I'll see about finding a flag for you! Hahaha!
where is your flying partner
I think those fields were Soybeans.
I just looked up what those look like, I think you're right. Thanks! :-)
👍
👍
The problem you have is light weight pellets you need rabbit pellets they are twice as heavy
I did some training in one of these and a great little aircraft. Needs more publicity. BUT there is one version has the fuel tanks in the wing ,not the dangerous place where they are in this version. A friend of mine was killed ina crash landing by those fuel tanks.
So up in Canada can you just land on anyone’s private access road without permission?
@@MabrysDad No, not in all of Canada, but around here where I live, people are much nicer and less possessive about their land. We have a very large off-road and ATV community and so most farm roads are accessible to anyone who wants to use them as long as they don't damage any crops or property. I've only ever run into 1 person in 10 years of doing this who asked me not to come back. All the others have had no problem with it whatsoever. :)
🙂I could hear just fine
Really good video
Hey Matty, hope you're keeping well mate and life is being kind. Enjoyed that exploration. Thank you.
Really cool to see you back flying your ultralight, Matt. These adventures are the best...take care & thanks...
Great fun, thanks .!
@mmatt I was wondering if you could call out your current height once in a while. Would be cool to know the actual height of what we are seeing. I often wonder, is he at a thousand feet?? Or 500.
@@jay-726 I can try to remember to do that once in a while. I'm typically 1000 AGL when leaving or approaching the airport and 500 AGL when out in the countryside.
Well done once again Matt. Great video!
I think this is my favorite of your videos. A lot of variety highlighting what ultralights do best..off-airport, short field ops.
Hey Matt, greetings from Australia. What tyres are you using on the Beaver? I'm trying to find 15.00x6.00x6 non aviation tyres for my ultralight. Been watching your vids for a couple of years now - awesome fun!!!!!
My nosewheel is just a wheelbarrow tire and the mains are automotive trailer tires. I'm not sure what size they are off-hand but they work just fine for this application.
@@mmatt Thank you for letting me know. Could you give me the brand on the tyre and the size and even a possible supplier if possible? Many thanks in advance.
why are you silent about the 701. if i don't see a answer soon i am leaving this channel.
You can go if you like.
lol. Read the previous comments. Leave the channel due to lack of 701 content on an “almost exclusively” UL driven content? Plenty of Zenith content to be found elsewhere. Enjoy.
@@mmatt i will. disappointed though, i was really interested in your reviews of the chinese 912 as you used it but i guess that won't be happening now.
@@bgardam9347 All I can tell you so far is that there are nearly 100 hours on the engine with no trouble whatsoever. Fuel consumption is right around 4.5 gph and it consumes barely any oil at all. It's as smooth as any Rotax I've ever flown behind and there's no indication that it'll be any less reliable. I'd fly behind one any day.
@@mmatt thanks matt. i apologise for my earlier comment.
