Joyo BanTamP Zombie Demo/Review || Tiny Metal Amp, Big Metal Sound!!
It's a highly modified 1972 Les Paul Custom. One of the previous owners decided to install a sustain block drilled for import bridges (because a '72 LPC isn't heavy enough already). Every time I use this guitar I get at least one question about it, so let's just get that out of the way lol.
More affordable gear reviews please! It's exciting because its stuff many ppl could suddenly decide to buy.
That thing is a tone MONSTER
Weigh it! I always hold my neck in pain when I see how much 70's customs weigh. My neck is stuffed anyway and 9 pounds is about the absolute limit with a nice padded strap.
Thats a NOICE Guitar
As always, I love the channel and great review. I really like this series of amps. Same price as a mid-range drive pedal, but it's a freaking amp.
One suggestion...when you do the clean and dirty playthroughs on amps or pedals, maybe run a couple guitars through (fishman, PAF, traditional active, single coil, whatever). Your mix always sounds good and it would be cool to hear some of the other guitars run through as well.
Keep it up!
If Simon isn't invited to GitCon 2018 they're doing it wrong.
"I randomly chose the Dual Rectifier"
I was thinking more of an orange but the sound made me think twice
I actually liked the Joyo over the Dual Rec.
HP said it was modeled after dual rectifier but with more engl-like "focused" tone.
Me too - it IS much tighter and focused.
Thus my point
I know right! When he played the Zombie right after the Rec I was like "oh shit the Zombie actually sounds way smoother"
@@MK-oz2lf I think so too. Rectifiers are a bit muddy compared to Marks. I welcome this current hybrid movement. Having a solid state power section enables a tighter low end. Back in the day, the hybrid Marhall Valvestates 8100s had a similar quality (though of course with the typical Marshall sound).
I actually think the joyo dirty clip sounded better
GuitarGodsUnite it really does
Definitely.
yep, it's tighter
I own the Dual Rec as well as this Zombie, and I gotta say, most often I plug into that little bastard and rock out. So quick and simple, and looks fkn wild perched on my schecter 412 cabinet. I tried it with a 212 cab with my band practice but wasn't enough in that situation. As it's been said, only real negative is the lack of a footswitch. Other than that, a great amp to have.
You got the best tone out of the Zombie that I've heard so far man. Hats off. I just ordered one because of your video.
I bought this head in February 2018. I love it. I’ve pushed it hard and it still kicks back. I think I paid $140 for it new and worth every penny.
Omg yes i love the room mate says section where he takes a look at it. seriously keep that up i love it
I preferred the Zombie to the Rectifier... *braces for impact*
You must be def
Sounds really good. Super impressed.
Impressive tune on this one!!! Great riff and awesome tone!! Good work my friend!!
Those riffs are some of your best! Keep it up
Nice dirt tones! Also I could see myself using that clean as a pedal platform. Definitely gonna consider this thing paired with a good cab to play at home. Great job, Hunter!
hilarious review, good job on pumping out content hunter.
Relieved to see you rate it so highly. I love this channel.
They now sell the Zombie II, that has a foot switch and two sets of controls, one clean & one od
Super tight playing, my good man!
Love or your demos and this one was crazy you really played the hell out on this track the guitar work was pretty awesome,by the way i sent for the zombie ll with the petal and separate clean and dirty channels with 6 knobs 3 per channel but thanks again rock on \m/
Now time for the Mesa vs Hotone Heart Attack vs the Joyo Zombie
spot on review as usual man
I've watched a few demos for the joyo zombie and I'm very impressed
Killer Vid. Killer Track. Great Job so glad I subscribed. :)
Do my ears deceive me or did the Joyo sound tighter than the dual Rec when it came down to comparison?
The joyo does sound tighter
Not gonna lie, I'm pretty sure the Zombie is based on a Mark-series amp, not the Recto. Given it's really tight without an OD (the OD in this test was completely unnecessary lol) and it has a juicy kind of sound (sounds weird but listen to Metallica's Black Album and you'll know what I mean), I'm not surprised that the Joyo was tighter than the Mesa
Jamieson M the dual Rec is a naturally flubby amp, so yes, the joyo is tighter
Wayyyy tighter
Is it because its under driven? Like if you open up the volume on the fuel rectifier would it tighten up a bit?
Great review👍
Great video dude!
Hey really nice review on this. Just subbed in because of it.
Rad jam dude, Head sounds great too. My buddy’s been looking for a fairly inexpensive setup, I’ll have to send this video his way.
sweet chops dude !
I really love Joyo's take on the orange amp line, this thing breaths fire though, especially for the price, this is like an amazing starter lunch-box head and honestly sounds pretty damn lamb of God like to me
I think the two amps together would sound amazing in a mix.
This is the best tone i've heard on your channel. Ho Lee Chit!
Awesome awesome awesomeness. Great riffs and those willie fishmans are the highlight of it all. I am going to buy those Willie Fishman 's. I already own the KSE's which are killer as wel. Killer vids. Love your work.
I have a pair of the KSEs that I haven't thrown in anything yet... how do they compare to the Moderns?
Agufish I don't know the moderns, but from my perspective fishmans are tweaked EMG's in general with a passive voice option in my humble opinion. The KSE's are difficult to describe but I will try: bridge is like a slightly tweaked EMG 85 which makes sense because KSE used that in the past, still tight bass response as hell. Neck is really full and fluid great pickup as well. Hope that helps
1:02 i can't believe i never thought of that pipe cleaner trick for muting overtones, thanks!
THAT DEMO TRACK WAS INCREDIBLE
I have one and i seem to be using it all the time!
in my opinion, the zombie sounds tighter and more aggressive, while the dual rectifier sounds floppy and soggy.
it sounds INCREDIBLE
Thoughts on doing a Boss Katana review? Or other modelling amp for people on a budget?
Don't waste your time. Buy a Zombie, a Harley Benton cab (or some 2x12 cab) a reverb pedal and one overdrive pedal.
cwbewley1985 for busking, a katana is the way to go. But for an amp to use at home, I wouldn’t recommend it
Dude this app is awesome I went ahead and got the Jackman never heard anything about these amps until today November 22nd 2021 and I made for sure I used your link because they are on sale for $75 up to $139 depending on which one you decide to get amazing little amps let me tell you
ok that sound was very "in your face"... didn't expect it sincerly. pairing it with a precision drive is a very nicely aggressive match. this is cool!
Jesus Christ Hunter. You get better every video. Kudos you badass.
Aye! A LOG fan! I love it.
The riff was awesome 🤘
Ive got the zombie my self, i werent realy impressed by it. The clean channel is pretty good, the drive channel i feel is a bit thin sounding ( could be that i use a traditional lp ) the bluetooth works ok, its «ok» for an beginner. The fx loop is also «ok» works alright if you have not too many pedals. I would say its an pretty alright practice amp. Just my opinion about the amp. Nice video Hunter as always :) cheers from Norway :D
I had the same feelings about the amp when I checked it out at a local shop. Joyo also has a small all tube called Mjolnir that is under $500.
I just bought this amp a few weeks ago. It's very nice for the price. You DO need an overdrive or Boost however to get a really good tone, ESPECIALLY of you are tuned really low like myself (A standard and drop G). O recommend this amp for either a practice amp or for a betweener amp while you're saving to buy the one you have your eye on.
I have this Little Monster too.
It's great, I agree it needs a Tube Screamer ish type pedal,
I have a EHX East River Drive Pedal for that, & it tightens it up.
With effects through the loop, you're set.
My Ibanez RG 1570 with DiMarzio's screams through this thing.
The cab sim is great, awesome buy for 220 in Australia.
Fantastic, Joyo..
These are cool for recording. I think they sound better going into a Two Notes than into a cab, and easy to have a rig on stand by. Once it is mixed in a track, it's super capable of delivering good sounds (maybe not blowing minds, but workable and the average listener wouldn't think twice)
Like most budget rigs, I’m impressed by the cost-to-quality ratio. You’re right about putting some saturation in front of it, it’s pretty reliant but turns an ok amp into something I can see on a small gig or maybe even a larger stage. Curious to know if anyone out there uses this as a main live rig.
can you review a baritone guitar please? Keep up the room-mate thing, it is awesome!
those are very cool, you should review amps more often
I've seen these amps before, seen pretty decent. Been thinking about getting one for my step dad. Like the zombie sound over the dual rect.
I love the zombie and the bantamp series. They put out some quality sounds for what they are. My only issue with the zombie was when i put my ts9 into the front it gets a bit fizzy in the top end. This may be the fact I’m using a pretty old and not so great cabinet or that I’m more of an orange amps guy at heart. Other than that I’ve enjoyed it
I have logic pro how do I play backing tracks or whatever through my amps? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, TRUE.
The riffage was out of fucking control. I loved it. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I would love to hear your thoughts on the boss Katana. A lot of the reviews don’t really cover it on hard rock/metal use and I would love to hear the tones you could get out of it!
you mentioned i can set the output to my computer's speakers? can anyone elaborate? what is the recommended set up if i were to buy this?
I suppose if it can be plugged into any sized speaker cabinet, with an many or as little speakers in it and at any size, it could be used for gigging?
Thanks for your review. 2 questions . Right now i have an avt 20 marshall , a metal zone and a digitech gnx1 and i am not pleased with the sound (death metal). Can i use the metal zone or the gnx1 with zombie? Its worth it or should i sell them along with the marshall?
Brutal!
Dumb question here: If I opt to use the "Send" signal from the effects loop will I need to connect a guitar cabinet?
Great review, just wish you used the fx loop to run through the power section of another amp
Damn sir you are a beast!
is it okay to use the JOYO Bantamps to record direct via DIBOX through the Audio interface without send it to cabinet speaker (pass thru)?
The pedal he’s putting in front of it costs about the same as the amp lol
lol this is true...
True but it worth it!
Ha! Pedal is $30 more...
The Amp sound is faked cause using the horizon pedal. :/
Tru Dominik What? That doesn’t mean it’s “faked”. The pedal simply tightens up the overdrive a little.
great vid n' amp.. but just one doubt.. if I wanna play through the headphones is it necessary to plug the amp into a cab ?? or Can I play just through the headphones connected into the amp??..I'll appreciate someone replies me..t-you..=)
Can this work together with a peavey 6505 plus for layered sound? Live?
is it safe to play compressor and graphic equalizer in its dirty channel??? i mean my guitar to eq to compresssor to zombie dirt????
Is that low end signal coming out of that amp?!!!! Or is that your bass / mastering? I definitely hear the MB Triple Rec in there. The dirty sound is approaching the Boss HM-2 (Japanese version!) territory used by many of my favorite metal bands like Bloodbath. Did you play around with the bluetooth much? I imagine you would get a lot of signal loss with the signal format just like when using it with my phone and car audio system. Awesome demo as always, dude.
How would you compare this to the 6505 Piranha? I tried the Piranha out, and it had decent tone, but didn't seem to have as much "thump" as my Peavey Vypyr 30 head. Both running through a 2x12 with V30's.
Yo hunter quick question, i have a crate 4x12 and it seems to only be 16ohm impedance and I noticed the zombie is 8ohms. i know i could run it thru my cabinet but would doing 8ohms to my 16ohm cabinet affect volume? Make it less powerful? Because lets face it, if I'm jamming with a drummer or gig im gonna need ALL that 20 watts. Lol
What's the song at the beginning? I'm just getting into down tuning and want some riffs to play, just bought some heavy gauge strings and am going to string a guitar and tune down to c standard or maybe drop c, I'm not sure
DUDE, I hope 2018 brings you the new Peavey Invective to try. Do you prefer the precision drive OD or a Maxon808? How's your cat doing?
what a coincidence! i randomly guess the dual rec was the amp youd pick!
Hey buddy, great review.. What's the raw sound from the phones out directly to audio interface ? Could you do the short demonstration ?
Excelente sonido. profesional totalmente.
Dear sir. I would like to know if the joyo can record to a daw directly without a cab simulator.
I'm wanting an amp that's a bit more portable compared to my Peavey Bandit. Assuming you can run this head into any sized speaker cab (I've seen an Orange micro terror being ran into a 4x12 cab before so I'm assuming you can with this? But I'm not too sure), you could take this head to a gig and use one of the venue's in house cabs, or even plug it j to the PA system if they don't have any speaker cabs for you to use. So on the portability and it being able to be plugged into a speaker cab OR a PA system, for gigging it sounds like a good option
Could you demo this with your Michael kelly 8 string and the horizon precision drive? There is literally 2 or 3 on youtube and they aren't good quality
You can get the bugera g5 used thats all tube and you can switch channels with a footswitch for the same price.
Anyone have any idea how if the Speaker sim would work going into an interface? Any idea how that sounds?
I've had one of these for a couple of years and I love it. Getting the two-channel (6-knob) Zombie ll next... anyone have one? Does it sound as good as the original single channel?
Own both and the XL is the same. They did change the headphone to regular 1/4” Jack instead of micro on version 1. The channel changing is awesome without any noises. Still has loop and all from version 1. The channel foot switch is metal and pretty damn rugged. I run them both in stereo through a 4x12 and they slay !!
I love the recto sound but both times i've gotten to play a dual rec i've not been able to dial in a tone I liked, granted that was before I got into tube amps and knew what I was really doing lol
Super interested in picking up a zombie and running it through the power amp of my egnater armageddon
Nice work on those tight pinch harmonics on the double track. Do you comp your tracks at all? I’ve been wanting to understand a little more about it so when I do song demos I can get my ideas down a little faster. Any insight would be helpful. I like to hit when the creativity is hot and double tracking really slows me down.
Do more of these amps. I prefer the sound of this to the dual rec oddly enough
That's pretty tight!
wonder what it sounds like with a revv G4 or G3 pedal`??
Damn. This thing sounds massive
Hey Hunter, any chance of reviewing the Epiphone Tony Iommi SG Custom? Thanks.
Ok I'm getting a VIVO JoYo bantamp. To gig with lol. The micro dark terror is sick as well. Which would you gig if had to???
Ok. It's official. With Torpedo and recording equipment any amp can be made to sound amazing. I've owned and sold this amp and it couldn't come close to this! You got skillz! 🤣
Hi mate was the Od pedal you used In The front of the amp or In the effects loop?? Cheers nice work
Yes I'm sure the Mesa Boogie dual rectifier was 'randomly' chosen ha ha. Are you likely to review any.of the others, the.Marshall or the Orange ones?
Your demo songs are too good
Hi. New to all this. As I am looking to invest in equipment soon I got a real beginner question: Does this need an extraneous speaker or does it play on its own?
6:16 I guess the cat prefers the Zombie...
What did youtube do to make that zombie sound better than dual rectifier?
Whatever it is, Im buying one.
Dude, by your face, i thought you were about to play some soft pop or some weak blues... but dude, YOU'RE AMAZING! I'm a happy metalhead now
lol I actually get that a lot. I've been told I look like someone who listens to Jason Mraz all day :(
@@agufish i feel sorry for you lol
Question here. I have a Peavey Rotor Explorer type guitar, with a cheap licensed floyd rose (which i hate), and all the hardware and pickups are Peavey stock. Cant get it in tune, action is way to high, its really not pleasant to play. I was thinking of getting some EMG pickups, changing the floyd for a Schaller Vintage Tremolo, and changing the stock tuners. Would it work as a replacement of the floyd? Do you think this would solve the problem? Which tuners should i buy? Greetings from Argentina!
For all the money you will dump into it to upgrade it I would just get a new guitar. Wait for some sales and you will end up with a better overall guitar
