Thoughts?
I'm happy for Garfield, not that bothered about Furiosa it's victim of Hollywood's bs from over the years and I hope other Movies like it will fail in the future.
A Mad Max film needs to Star Mad Max to be successful.
So obvious modern Hollyweird would never understand it.
Blakes 7 did ok without 'Blake' didn't it?
I loved Furiosa, glad it was made. But it just blows my mind no one considered that the Mad Max Franchise is just not major money and thinking a spin off would be a massive hit. Plus taking huge risk in the current landscape with high ticket prices and streaming is just flat stupid.
Furiosa was suppose to be an anime and a companion piece to fury road, but after fury rd didn't do great, producers put it on hold. Then Miller was already working on Max's Mad Max, but a female producer decided to greenlight furiosa to be produced as a film. But I got to say, it's a blast, and I had great time at the cinema.
I went and saw three films this weekend: Ezra, The Young Woman and the Sea and Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle. Haikyu!! is a fun continuation of the anime series of a high school volleyball team competing in the national tournament. I enjoyed Young Woman and the Sea, thought it was the best film I've seen Daisy Ridley in. Only complaint was the film slighted some of Trudy Ederle's actual accomplishments but understand them doing it for dramatic license. My favorite of the weekend is Ezra. It's about a family with a son who is autistic. It's very well done and has a really great cast. I especially appreciate how they handle how the parents (who are separated) handle parenting a child who is on the spectrum. It's an indie film so not a lot of promotion for it but if it's playing near you, I recommend seeing it
These current spate of Mad Max films are too expensive. The budgets need to be brought down and the expanded universe scrapped. Go back to the lower budget approach with a film focused on Max.
Have seen Garfield twice, and saw Sight yesterday. Garfield is great, def worth a watch. Sight was prob about 20-30 minutes too long for what it needed, good but prob not a full feature story.
I liked Furiosa but at the same time found it boring maybe due to it's length.
I see Disney isn't releasing any box office numbers for its latest feminist screed "Young Woman and the Sea." That title really annoys me, btw. I'm sure there is a slap at Ernest Hemingway in there somewhere.
Friday's numbers are out for "Young Woman and the Sea.". A mere $0.500 million dollars. It has failed.
And I don't really believe that Furiosa was written at the same time as Fury Road. I think that was just a marketing trick because of the not-so-great feedback when the project was announced. The change in the focus plus the casting change was an issue, so they concocted that story. It didn't work. It's probably a great movie, too, but we will wait for it. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron just ended their feud and came together to laugh at these numbers. 🤭
I watched Garfield instead of furiosa because I’m intimidated by strong female leads but not strong feline leads.
We need more strong feline leads
