- This is up there with one of the best laps from Max Verstappen, he was 2 tenths down on Fernando Alonso but he somehow found 3 tenths in the shortest calender of the year to take pole position

Why is this lap incredible?
Max Verstappen is down on Fernando Alonso after two sectors - 0.2secs - but a stunning final sector grabs pole by 0.084secs. He hit barriers like 3 times in the process
This lap makes up for Saudi 2021
What happened at Saudi 21?
@@gabox01 He hit the barrier out of the last corner. He was up by 0.2s or more I think. That lap was on the limits.
@@DeadlyCatcher Ah yes i remember it now. What a mighty lap that was.

That sector 3 was just so satisfying. He knew he had it all on the line and didn't care if he crashed, he just sent it. And it was LITERALLY millimeter perfect. So amazing that sector 3, probably the best sector 3 in Monaco's history. Literally wallriding
This definitely made up for his mistake at Saudi 2021; this lap will absolutely go down as one of the greatest pole laps in history
the best sector 3 in monaco history was in 1996 from a driver that i cant remember his name.the only thing a remember he has a red car and the car was a SHIT.by the way he cover ONLY 0.729 IN THE LAST SECTOR FROM THE CHAMPION CAR(HILL-WILLIAMS)sorry but im still not remember the name of that DRIVER

@dfjanus8014 finished plenty of laps, every single one of them in 2023 actually, and led over 1000 of them on his way to becoming a 3x champion, you're so salty replying to everyone😆
@@SugarFreeLatte yes very happy that he kept that ROCKETSHIP on the track! it was a great achievement! he cruised arnd in a 1sec/lap faster car AND kept it on the track. thats amazing! i agree
I watched Alonso get prov pole and was so hype to finally see him on the front row. But then the camera cut to Max on his final lap and I could just feel the insane pace even from behind the TV screen. I didn’t even have to watch the end of the lap to know he was gonna do it.
"feel the pace"
I agree with this 100%. Watching this lap it just felt like it was 5 seconds faster than everyone else, even though it was obviously not.
It was ferocious
When Martin Brundle says wow,, you know your seeing something.. I could feel the speed and I was in my Garage watching on my phone at what was it here like 9am on a Saturday morning
He wasn’t flirting with the wall he was straight up KISSING it. Such delicate handling.
Yeah, Martin instantly knew what was going on and what we were in for. Guy is such an asset.
People don’t understand how much 2 tenths is… he gained all of that in Sector 3. Incredible
Alonso made a mistake in sector 3 tho
It's not just 2 tenths he found, its way closer to 3 tenths over Alonso which is even more insane
The level of precision and awareness this shows is just not human. It reminds me of the story of Senna crashing and saying "I don't understand how it happened.. the barrier must have moved." and went they went and checked the barrier had been moved slightly by a previous car. The fact a driver is so in tune with his car, and so knowledgeable about the track, barriers, down to literal inches is just amazing to watch.
He gained almost 0.3 second in the shortest sector ...just WOW !
with the n1car against n5car(rb against martin)in 1996 someone took the pole with n3car against n1 car(ferrari against williams)IN THE SHORTEST SECTOR HE GAINED ONLY 0.729!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That swimming pool shot is arguably the best shot of the season. Still incredible
“He has a super fast car” those awful British commentators never said that about Lewis when his car was even faster compared to the competition than Max’s car currently is.
Literally 3 seconds after that he lost his breath seeing Max actually took pole, I don't think he meant that to be offensive.

Probably cause at that time there were other cars like Ferrari who could complete with them. But this season Adrian Newey designed something out of this world that no other team has been able to match. McLaren maybe got close towards the end of the season.
Lewis who?!?
Paper-thin margins at 0:05. He nailed it there.
Like literally. If you watch it VERY slowly, you can see he bumped into the barrier just a tiny bit. Insane

If completed, his Jeddah lap would have 100% been on par with this one. People can hate on Max all they want, his raw talent is undeniable.

@@cjerp the saddest thing abt this lap is that he managed to be slower than a fucking Aston Martin for the first 2 sectors. A fucking AM. in that rb19 ROCKETSHIP. hard to believe but it’s true. This proves that Max is an amazing driver and it’s not “just the car” cause Monaco isn’t about the car. It’s about the driver and what they can achieve. We’ve seen many great drivers crash in Monaco. But it wasn’t the case here. Max is just raw talent!

0:04 just magnificent omg that commitment was just insane
Max haters will always fail to honor him as a great driver, cause in their minds he is on the throne of F1 because of a fast car.
Few drivers can reach flow state, but i bet Max was in flow state this 3rd sector, brilliant.
I'd hazard a damned good guess that if Senna was still alive (spectating) he'd have been super impressed with this lap.
I know it wouldn't be fair to Sergio, but I wished RB would give the second car to Hamilton for just one season.
This way you would prove once and for all that it's not the car. It's the driver.
Max is something special.
It's always a combination of both, along with strategists etc. (Look at how many times a Ferrari had amazing pace and then got screwed by bad strategy.) Checo was very much a low/midfielder when he was wearing Pink. Put him in Blue and he was a top driver (although lacking this year a bit) Same thing went for Russell.. with Williams he was a good driver, put him in a Merc and he's doing better than he ever did with W. You could be a phenomenal driver, but if the car can't deliver you are going to get beaten by "good" drivers in good cars. On the flip side you could put a terrible driver (subjectively... all of these guys are some of the best drivers on the planet) like Stroll in a Red Bull and he's still going to find a way to lose races.

Martin Brundle was like all of us, when Max started that last sector, just a short “wow” and start watching.
To put this into perspective, the final sector is about 900 meters long, and Verstappen gained about 1 tenth of a second every 300 meters

@@dfjanus8014 AM, especially in Fernando's hands, was quite capable in Monaco Q. Also, Checo did a substantially worse job than Max throughout the season while being an OK driver. It is possible that Lewis, Fernando or Charles could match or beat Max in overall qualifying performance in the same car in 2023 but Max's driving was outstanding the whole year. Basically, the only significant error of judgement was T12 in Las Vegas against George where Max should have waited for DRS detection in T13 before attempting a pass. In 2016, he used to mess up all the time. So, lots of respect for his extraordinary improvement. I don't think any of the other greatest drivers improved as much during their F1 careers. They usually started pretty complete. Max's entry into F1 aged 17 was premature but he fixed all the stuff I criticised and refined the stuff I liked. In a competitive car, he is a title contender against any current F1 driver. In S3, he pushed 101%, that's where the contacts came from. In S1-S2, "just" 99-100%.

Just a stunning lap and it wasn't the car, it was Max. Just the most stunning and fastest F1 driver, no, race car driver, that has ever lived. Already the GOAT and I don't say that lightly.
FANGIO PROST CLARK SENNA AND SCHUMACHER ARE AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT
Extremely fast driver in an extremely fast car. He's been pulling 3 second leads within the first few laps all season, not unusual with the right combo in F1 though, Vettal could do that, so could Schumacher and Hamilton to name a few. I mean, let's be serious here though, Max is not the GOAT... yet. Might be one day if he gets enough WDC's.
Stunning drivers I'll always go with Senna though, his quali lap of Monoco in 1990 was just off the scale at the time. A very different era in F1 though.
@@billB101 how many WDCs a driver have is not the measure of the greatest driver, but more of how many years a driver was in a dominant car.
GOAT is more than that, its doing things others can't, and often. You can look back at Max when he was in a car that couldn't challenge for the title and he was doing amazing things at a young age already, just look at Brazil, or his first win at Barcelona. Now look at him in a dominant car and he is pulverising everyone, and taking records down that have been standing for decades. Seb and Lewis couldn't do what Max is doing now, they just don't have the mentality. Just look at the records he has broken this year, at 26 yrs old. the circumstances to allow for a driver to be moulded into what Max is today, won't be repeated again, and was never done before. He truly is the talent of the century.
You put Max in the same car as any driver past and present, hard to see anyone beating him except Michael. Lewis and Seb? no chance
