      In Catholic terms this would be a heretical understanding akin to the heresy of Donatism. Because the teaching of the Church is that sacramental signs once confirmed to Christ convey the grace they signify. That isn’t dependent on the faith of the person.

    Billy is more than likely a ghoul and hasn't been bitten but has drunk some of Gerrys blood . I'm pretty sure thats in classic vampire lore . Vampire in Brooklyn uses the same premise

      He's kinda a cross between a Human servant and a Renfield, in the books I read a Human servant and his Master are so tied together that kill one will sometimes kill the other or just drive them insane. Probably why Jerry was so Fuck it after Billy was killed. He was old so he rapidly decomposed hence the sand and goo.

      Like i said in my comments a ghoul! Also a vampire can choose his servants and ed was a werewolf creature and not entirely a vampire,like in some classic lore i think vampires could transform their victims if they wanted to something else to serve them! And since there's allot of different facts & theories in vampire lore one cannot be so sure i guess,so we leave it at that! 😅

    I’d argue that the last remnant of old school horror hosts, being a creepy host in some sort of spooky setting, is definitely not John Bloom aka Joe Bob, as that’s just a Texan character at a trailer park. The last remnant of old school horror hosts, is Svengoolie. Yes, he’s technically based in Chicago, but he’s been nationally broadcast on METV since the early 2010’s

    Fun fact: Back when NOW COMICS was publishing FRIGHT NIGHT, they were also publishing THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, a comic that received complaints from parent groups for being too scary for the kids that watched the cartoon (but that's not important right now). In one RGB issue, Peter Venkman was seen reading an issue of FRIGHT NIGHT, and he made fun of the heroes for going out and fighting monsters for free.

    Maybe Evil Ed had a freestanding invite to the Brewster home? Like when he and Charlie became friends and Ed came over for the first time, or maybe at a later time when he had arrived when Charlie wasn't there but would be soon, and Mrs Brewster told him "You're always welcome here Ed." Who knows, the whole "Must be invited" aspect of the lore is never consistent in any vampire media.

    • @freemanburnstad2602

    My personal take is that the guy was a ghoul. Half vampire as you said but the reason for the sand was that when a vampire die they revert to their human form. Hence why Ed didnt rot or melt. Billy however was ancient so the only thing remaining of his human form was sand.
    Also I think Ed still had access due to being invited as a human. Good video btw.

    As an expert on this movie, having seen it over 300 times since I was 5 years old in 1985. I know it by heart. I have the answers.
    1. You're on to something about the holy/tap water. I believe he was simply checking to make sure that it wasnt blessed. And holding it up to the fire proves it to his vampire vision.
    2. The cross also works on Amy when she first wakes. The reason why it eorked on Ed the first time is because Peter had faith. He was terrified at the moment. Pribably begginf God to save him. Thats why it worked. When he first confronted Jerry, he's posturing. Putting on a brave face performance. Thats why Jerry laughed and mocked him.
    3. Jerry was trying to leave Charlie alone, but Charlie just didnt leave him alone. So, thats why he went buck wild. Chris S. said the fruit was his idea becsuse he was thinking about fruit bats.
    4. Now, I believe that once the master vampire was invited, that means all of the vampires he turned are now able to enter. They are linked to him. Thats why when he died, those who hadn't fed were able to turb back. Peter never had Jerry, the Master vamp, invited into his home. Thats why Ed had to be invited into Peter's home.
    5. Billy most likely had Jerry's blood. Making him his slave and when he calls to his blood, he awakens Billy as a zombie-like creature. Same with FN 2 where they had Bosworth eating bugs for their blood. I believe they've only had vampire blood.
    6. Def. Gay/Bi subtext in Fright Night.
    7. I agree about this scene be some well acted. Peter watching Ed's death. Now, I believe he survived when Peter removed the steak. That awakended him. His body was still in tact. I believe Ed had fed on human blood, and that's why he was a full vampire. In FN2, the Psychiatrist didnt believe anythinf Charile said, so he just said Ed was dead, since he was teying to convince Charlie that Jerry was a serial killer and not a vampire.
    8. True about GB.
    9. Yes, Louis is all vampire. FN 2 is another favorite of mine, but the story wasnt as tight.
    10. That FN 2 is just a reboot and it wasn't as good as any of the other ones. It shouldn't even been called FN2. Or have been made at all.

    Ed was just a minion for Jerry. Jerry was the head vampire, which is why you need faith. Has nothing to do with Jerry having faith in th4 cross. The thing with the apples actually relates to the correlation of vampires and bats. In bat form Dandridge was a fruit bat, from his perception. Ok Catholic theologian here. Blessed salt is used as an either or to Holy Water especially in areas where high heat tends to make holy water evaporate easily.
    In the past it was routine to add blesses salt in the rite of baptism. Blessed salt is also added to Holy Water blessed for Easter.
    It is not required for salt to be added to holy water and doesn’t make it more potent to do so.
    Holding holy water or any water up to a fire would not tell you if there were salt added unless you added so much salt the water was literally cloudy.

    The relationship between Jerry and Billy is more akind to a master and his pet. He tend to him like if he his a loyal and overprotective dog. This is exactly the answer i got from Chris Sarandon himself.
    Billy is something similar to the Renfield character, the loyal ghoulish servant of Dracula. Probably created the same way as him and serve the exact same purpose as Renfield. The character of Brian Thompson in Fright Night 2 play a character similar as Billy and like Renfield in Dracula he feed and insects. So both Billy and Bozworth are familiars exatcly like Renfield.

    Billy is obviously not a zombie because he doesn't eat flesh or brains...I know Return of The Living Dead introduced the concept of a brain-eating zombie that everyone seems to think Romero invented even though Return is separate from the actual Living Dead franchise. He is a ghoul obviously, like kind of a Renfield...just not with vampire powers. Not revenants unlike in the Creepshow segment 'Something to Tide You Over', or in Pet Sematary. Maybe he isn't a fully turned vampire or a hybrid. Also when Ed got turned into a vampire Peter encounters him as a wolf which is something in vampire mythology since vampires can turn into bats and wolves (or sometimes mist/smoke, insects) and in Coppola's dracula movie Dracula appears as a wolf-monster, there is a werewolf-like vampire in the sequel.

    Great video. Please refer to the movie Salem's lot 1970 94 a better explanation as to why Jerry David holds the holy water in front of the fireplace. In the movie Salem's lot David Sol and Lance Kerwin Use the bottle of holy water as it glows when vampires are nearby. This is why Dandridge holds the bottle in front of the fireplace to see if it glows. Personally I think Dandridge is a little bit afraid because he still hesitates before he drinks it. That's the thing about vampire movies they all play different fast and loose with the rules. As for the cross working on evil ed... I think using the cross is a moment to moment type of activity because we've seen vampires rip the cross out of people's hands who do not have faith in the cross... In a moment we're evalette attacks Peter Vincent he's putting that cross on his head is a last-ditch effort so he's hoping to God that it works and that's why it does... But when Peter Vincent is standing in front of Jerry Dandridge He puts on his old Peter Vincent performance which is fake and not based on having faith and that's why it doesn't work at the end of the movie when he reuses the cross and the same position he's not doing it from the Peter Vincent persona he's doing it from his own perspective and that's why it works. Another reason is that he sees the sun slightly rising behind him and that adds to his faith. This is a fantastic movie if you have any more questions for me about it please ask I've studied it for decades.

    I think Ed got into Charlie's house because as a childhood friend, he was sort of part of the household. Maybe this is just how it worked when I was a kid or in my town or whatever but when you'd grown up together for a decade or so, there came an ill-defined point where you became part of the family. You stopped having to knock as be let in or be invited to meals ahead of time. Kind of like i wouldn't expect a teen who got turned into a vampire to need an invitation to enter his parents' house where he grew up, I guess I just expect this to work the same way.

      I said the same. Ed wasn't a stranger so basically had an invite already which probably got grandfathered in after he turned because no one ever disinvited him.

    Funny thing about the home invite in the first book of the monster hunter international book series they were wondering how some vampires got into a home of a sleeping couple. One character pointed out they have a welcome Matt at the door and a vampire can take that as an invite in

  • @devbob
    @devbob Před 7 měsíci

    Dandridge being the head vampire and having been invited, maybe he has the power to allow his thralls access to the Brewster House.
    As to John Gries Wolfman vampire, let me reference Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter, "You see, doctor, there are as many species of vampire as there are beasts of prey. Their methods and their motive for attack can vary in a hundred different ways." and then Lost Boys Edgar Frog just because, " I think I should warn you all, when a vampire bites it, it's never a pretty sight. No two bloodsuckers go the same way. Some yell and scream, some go quietly, some explode, some implode, but all will try to take you with them."
    Definitely the Renfield in FN2 was similar to whatever Billy was. In the Vampire RPG (probably taking many pages from pop culture vampire movies" there's a creature called a Ghoul. It can be animal or human (like Thorn the dog in Lost Boys), and is imparted a small portion of the Vampire's power by taking the blood of the vampire, but not actually becoming a vampire itself. However, living long enough, it needs the blood to maintain it's body. That's why Billy turns to sand/dust at the end, he'd been hanging with Jerry for a long time.
    I really liked your comment on the acting with the Evil Ed death scene, I always like that myself. I can't tell from your video, but with the cross burn disappearing from Ed's face, I always thought that meant he was "clean". But then doesn't Peter pull the stake out to use against Jerry. And the only way to really kill a vampire is to stake the heart, cut off the head and burn them in separate locations. So, Ed could have revived.
    Really cool video.

  • @TwesomE
    @TwesomE Před 7 měsíci

    The first thing came in mind with the holly water scene was the same,heating it up so the holy water loose its consistency or something! But i also made up the other theory which suggests that in this way jerry could understand if that was indeed holy water! Probably in the fire he knew how to check it and could see something that the others couldn't understand,since he was a really old and wise vampire as we know and had ways to check things like that! In cross encounter with jerry i believe it was because jerry was a way stronger vampire than his follower evil,and was much easier with the teenage wolf servant.Also can you say with ease that in the fight scene he had against evil his faith gone up a little more to save his life and also touched him in the face with the cross,while in his encounter with jerry he acted like in his movies being cocky and he didn't believed so much! Jerry was eating apples to be able to blend with all the ppl around him,even though we don't see him eat so much in general a fruit or something else doesn't mean he didn't in general.It was also a funny fact about fruit bats since we already know that some species of bats eating fruits! I don't think however though he needed nutrients from normal food he just enjoyed a good bite here and there since at one point he was a person after all! Ed was managed probably to go inside charlie's home because of the influence of his master,and he wasn't a vampire entity entirely rather a wolf man mostly.Thus he managed to get inside without a problem,jerry turned him a wolf boy for this reason as well perhaps to have access in places easier than him! Billy is a simple minion or ghoul perhaps,something jerry created for the purpose of have a guard to protect him,how created hi you might ask! Since he is a very ancient vampire entity he might had some ways with dark forces to make him,or with some kind of turning like when he can decide to what he will choose to transform them! Evil ed is a wolf man creature ,while he was a ghoul servant i believe! No i don't think jerry & billy were a couple since jerry was on ladies as it seems with amy! Its just that it looks that way,though some can state that because he was an ancient vampire he might tried everything.To tell you the truth i don't quite think that a vampire needs sex at all since it isn't something entirely alive nor dead,the sex a creature like that can have is with their teeth! Ed died the eyes we see outside of his window were probably jerry's sister from the second film,or someone else from her company probably! If they never made the second film still to this day many would think that ed didn't died and he was the one staring his friends in the end! Ghost busters connection to fright night,you can say with ease that it is in the same universe since there's ghouls & ghosts & stuff in both films why not to have a true connection in the end?!? Luie & buzz was something close to ed & billy nothing more nothing less! And since you mentioning the remakes which both suck serious ass they shouldn't be a tenth question for those awful films remakes!!!

    1) He's just looking at it. The framing is to show he's concerned there's a chance it could be holy water and the risk he's taking.
    2) Peter was hamming it up, like he did in his films, when he crossed Jerry. Earlier when attacked by Ed, Peter used it as a weapon he believed would protect him.
    3) It's a (humorous) reference to fruit bats.
    4) I'll be dipped in shit! I never realized Ed got into the Brewster home without an invite. Perhaps the novelization has an answer?
    5) The question that will never die. Billy Cole was not human but not a zombie, ghoul, or golem. In the NOW Comics, Peter says: "(He's) Not human, Charley. Not human."
    6) No, they are not gay, but Jerry could be bisexual. Jerry leaning on Billy's shoulders was gloating. Billy serves a millennium-year-old immortal with reverence.
    7) Ed is dead. The red eyes at the end were a fake out or... Regine's eyes. In the NOW Comics, Peter says: "An ambulance took the body away to the city morgue. We never saw him again."
    8) Not sure anyone wonders about this as many movies have similar/recycled effects from SFX crews.
    9) Bozworth was Billy Cole 2.0 but leaning closer towards the Reinfeld bug eating servant trope. Louie was a vampire who could assume a wolf/grotesque form.
    10) Fright Night 2: New Blood (2013) was another remake. Making Gerri female may have been, albeit a weak one, a nod to Fright Night II (1988).
    -I answered these with what is said or done on screen. Referencing the NOW Comis series was just that, a reference. I don't take head canon or fan theories into account.

    I like your theory about being able to enter the house if no one there, but that begs the question what if Charlie had arrived rather than Peter? Would Ed have burst into flames? Been shot out through the window as if by a repelling magnet? No, I think it's even simpler than that. I think Ed was recognizes as SUCH a good friend friend by the Brewsters that he was recognized as family (Me casa es su casa). Again, referring back to folklore, it was generally family members who returned as vampires, the family being the first victims, and this predates any concept of having to be invited (back) in.

    • @TroyPacelli
      @TroyPacelli Před 7 měsíci

      The explanation on the Wiki about Billy sounds a lot like the Vampire: The Masquerade concept of the Ghoul. The Ghoul is a human, but NOT bitten by the vampire. The Vampire gives the ghoul some of their own blood which gives strength, stamina, healing and near immortality. Effectively, the ghoul is an addict enslaved to his vampire "dealer." They receive no benefit from any blood BUT vampire blood. Not sure why the sand and goo thing other than just a cool effect.

    Funny you make the link between F.N. and 👻 Busters..makes me think how it's interesting that Chris Sarandon,aka Jerry, is the lead detective in 'Child's Play', which we now all know was Mancini's eventual way of putting out a gay friendly killer doll with a kid that themselves are pretty much a hermaphrodite. Gotta say I'm really glad the horror community is finally shown it's true colors and accepted that gay people can make great films as well..and they can be some pretty damn good actors! I always saw the thing with the holy water as Dandridge helping Vincent with his performance. Peter Vincent knew the holy water wasn't real. With his back to Charlie, he all but told Dandridge it wasn't real with his eyes and head gestures. "Help me with this act so this annoying child will leave us both alone, please?"
    Dandridge played along and did some creepy-looking "vampire movie" stuff by "inspecting" the vial with the natural light of the fireplace.

    I disagree with the notion of "looking too deep" when it comes to someone who specializes in film analysis, history, and trivia. That would be like accusing a doctor of looking too closely at an injury, or a homicide detective of asking too many questions, or whatever. My point is that You are (among many other titles) the Unanswered Questions guy, what would be the problem IF you were "looking too deep"?

    • @ultramk2698
      @ultramk2698 Před 7 měsíci

      And yes, I do note that in the context of the video, the point was that you were accused of having to look very deep to see an element, that in actuality was very much surface-level. I'm simply stating that I disagree with there being an issue, if it had been much deeper subtext for you to then: discuss/point-out/explain/etc.
