Hello, i bought it couple of months ago and it is amazing but just couple of hours ago my subwoofer stopped working of it own so I did the whole set up again, resetting then it updated itself I connected to wifi and everything but somehow the volume we use to hear at 2 is now 10 and its not that satisfying. Any suggest?
No idea, I'm sorry - I'd contact JBL :(
The 9.1 bar just came out in the uk. Thats on my shopping list
I'm request it :D
The fact that it’s wireless, 4K compatible, and works with Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS for providing great sound quality, making it one of the best home theatre system addition and it being priced so decently makes this an even better deal. MediaTek chipset ensures smooth performance thereby no doubts over that. Decently priced for a feature full gadget.

Hi,please tell me about this soundbar, y know he sound great, but do you have had any issues with it by now? It is a quality build system or it is weak? Excuse my bad english. Thanks

Hello could you help me with the calibration? When I hold the hdmi button on the remote am I meant to see some lights/writing on the soundbar saying it's calibrating or will it just stay black as mine is doing. Also the same goes for entering smart mode, are there meant to be lights/indications your in that mode because again mine just stays black. I hope I've explained this properly. Thanks.
From memory: it should come up saying calibration on the LED of the soundbar; likewise with smart mode
Thanks for a great breakdown.
Pleasure, glad you liked it!
nice video. Most of the movies I watch are "free", will the "smart mode" improve the sound of those movies as they are usually just stereo sound? Thanks.
It would, but as mentioned in the video, does have its negative consequences
Great video ! Very informative. But quick question. What is Dolby Audio? What does it support ?
Thanks! Dolby Audio; essentially higher quality content, if you watch HD channel for example, it'll sound better - that, from my understanding, is Dolby Audio being triggered and resulting a better audio clarity. If you were to watch movies too, this would mean better quality audio too!
Hey man great detailed video!
Just wondering would you recommend this or me getting the Bose TV Speaker + Bass module 500
OR Samsung Q600A 3.1.2?
Thanks
Not tried the Samsung, so can't comment. As for the Bose, I've only tried the 700 - and while it was okay, it was too expensive for what it offered.
The sound quality is seriously impressive and I love that the JBL Bar 5.1 surround is powered by a reliable mediatek processor
Thanks for sharing, glad you agree!
Hola podria consultar algo importante que creo que le pasa a varios. Por que esta suena menos que la 2.1??
Best truthfull review on this bar. Thanks for informing that is bass heavy.
Giving this one a miss.
Pleasure buddy, glad I could help!
What soundbar ticks most of the boxes (if not all) and which one would recomend if budget isn’t a problem.
Have you reviewed the Bose 700 and/or 500
Bose 700 wasn't all that good, bit overpriced for what it is.
Budget isn't a problem? You might eat your words out, but sure: Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar + a Hi-Fi sub
I got two questions....So I bought this soundbar last week. Initially all was well, and then I tried out the chromecast function using my phone, which connects the soundbar to wifi... my chromecast only streams audio but doesn't project my screen onto the unit...its the chromecast only for audio and not video? The second question is... so I noticed that when i first tested it, the bass had only three levels: low, medium and high...after connecting to wifi it updated the software, so my bass levels now go from 1 to 5. However, I've noticed since that the sound is heavier and more thumping when I'm streaming via Bluetooth, but when I play music from my laptop via hdmi the bass is light ...have you experienced this? What could be the cause?
Chromecast for audio-related products is always audio-only. Not sure about the bass quantity with the update; can't comment on that, sorry!
Thought to Update this comment. So its been over 2 months now and I'm really enjoying the speaker! 1. The Chromecast issue is because Chromecast on this device is designed for audio transmission only, so not a problem :). 2. The low bass issue is because I was using the speaker on a Laptop that only has a stereo sound output, it didnt support a full 5.1 surround sound. So When I used the Netflix PC application, the 5.1 audio opened up as it supports Dolby Audio! so great product after all, you just gotta use it right!

I just brought this product and couldn't figure how to set up TV sounds to come through Optical cable. My TV is an LG (old model) and doesn't have HDMI-ARC. Can't find Optical cable as an option to choose from Source in my sound bar. Any solutions to try?

Hi Chris/everyone, wel i have the experience of owning one the passed few months.I was quite happy for the for the price (333,- eur at the official JBL store). But it started giving a crackling and popping sound last month i was able to send it to a repaircompany on JBL's costs. The main printed circuit board had to be replaced, the soundbar was delivered back 2 days ago.The JBL Surround had 5 bass levels but when i turned it on there was only a low/mid/high i asked JBL about and the told me it's a softwareupdate. It should work like how it was originaly meant with this bar they replied.Wel ok, so a bit later Chromecast on my phone asked me if i want to connect my soundbar to my home network. So i did, and after the whole process my bassfunction went back to the old 5 level mode and there is currently no sound on my soundbar.Just some bass from the subwoofer.I'm looking for a solution, it looks like a related software thing.Well fingers crossed.
Oh wow, that sounds like an utterly crap experience you've had - I'd get in contact with JBL again, think you've put up with a lot there, more than most would - try getting a replacement (not a repair)!
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks Chris i did exactly as you said, and they are willing to pay a refund.I hoped for a replacement i din't expect this.I assume i have both options.I have to look at he possibilities for another bar for 333,- first,

Thank you for a good review. Just bought it and plugged it in. One question that comes in mind is how do I know when it plays dolby surround? Connected to TV via hdmi. It says PCM on the jbl display when I stream movies to the TV via chromecast.
Also in the TV menu the dolby output is shaded and is not chooseable
Pleasure glad you liked it!
In terms of PCM that's normal when watching regular TV - if you switch to HD channels, that should then move to Dolby. You might need to enable an option on your TV settings (when watching HD channels), so that it's auto switching, rather than permanently on PCM.
@@TotallydubbedHD thank you. Googled a bit more and found out that my hdmi arc does not support forwarding the surround sound 😳. To old TV. Need e-arc

@@TotallydubbedHDNo worries. I went through a bunch of the comments on this video and had a laugh due to how often you say "not sure".
I got it sorted on my end, though. Just had to hold the same buttons for what seemed like forever. Also, your video was still helpful. I've had the bar for a couple years now and never knew about the calibration setting. Cheers
Well, if I'm not sure nor know the answer, I don't really to give the wrong one. So, I'm being honest and upfront - especially when it comes to product comparisons.
I am using this jbl 5.1 homethetre from last week . My right rear speakers is low effective than left . Is it normal or should I check for it ?
think you've got a different model? Regardless- that doesn't sound normal.

Hi, I just bought this and I love the soundbar but hated the subwoofer. The bass is very weak even with the setting at max level 5. Is there a way to adjust the bass other than what's on the remote? Help?
I had an old sony surround sound system with wires running everywhere and the bass on the subwoofer is much much louder then the JBL and I paid about the same price 20 years ago.
Odd, some have reported things like this meanwhile for most including myself it's been plentiful. Not sure what more you can do other than return it
The SUb Roofer is very powerful!! :D Love your work mate :)
Cheers!
I had 2 of these, they both rattled and buzzed once you exceed half volume on an iphone. Isk if its because of my music or what but i was disappointed. I thought the first was defective but the second did the same. The build quality is nice and i wanted it to just work well. The sub had a ton of bass but i cant listen to the loud crackle/ buzzing sound, it was really loud and couldn’t be ignored
Sorry to hear that!
Hi i have this speaker and i lost tbe remote control by any chance do you know where i could buy the remote
No idea unfortunately, contact JBL
How would you compare this against q60t for surround performance and mid range?
I would prefer this one, but the mids are on-par
Great reviews! I just bought the JBL 5.1 surround but I am now wondering what your opinion is in regards to the JBL 5.1surround vs the samsung Q70r? Would be great to have your thoughts with out considering price as both models are very similarly priced currently.
Heya, did you watch the video - as I compared the models quite a lot throughout the video.
I returned my Samsung Q60t today because the sound was too low and the base just wasn’t there and I picked up this JBL 5.1 for 300$ at Best Buy and I’m satisfied, the dialog is clear and loud. Ohh and did I mention how loud the base is? the base is super loud feels like you’re in a movie theatre. I updated the sound bar via Ethernet cable and the subwoofer now has 5 modes vs the 3 that it came out of the box. this sound bar really makes the Samsung Q60t sound bad. What I like about this sound bar is that the base is very loud and the dialog is just as loud. Is 300$ a good deal?
Indeed it is. Enjoy!
Yep, I got the same deal at Best Buy in November 2022.
When connected via Hdmi can you control volume by tv remote ?
Yup!
Yes, I found this the hard way. First I use the optical cables but didn’t like switching from one remote to another just to change the volume. I use the hdmi (arc) then was able to use all remotes for my tv including roku, cable etc to change the volume of the soundbar
Please i will like you to observe the latest firmware update on this soundbar, the bass volume is now 1,2,3,4,5 instead of low, medium and high also the bar volume is now very low compared to the older firmware version, will love to know if it's a good upgrade. thank you. . .

Think everything you asked has been covered (in detail) in the review; if there's anything missing, feel free to ask JBL or, as per my suggestion, look into the owner's manual.
Hi, can the soundbar stay on (idle) and use airplay like a smart speaker or do you have to turn it on each time you want to use it?

How wide is the soundstage? I have a Q60R that's being returned. The sounstage in that is the length of the bar or so only in standard mode and slightly larger than that in surround mode. The side firing speakers in Q60R play only surround sounds. Now even with rear speakers, the soundstage doesn't improve. Can this JBL give a wide front sounstage? For example, if a car pass from left to right, will the side firing tweeters be used in the JBL bar, to make that panning sound seem really wide?
It's better than the Q60R imo, did you watch my review?
@@TotallydubbedHD oh yes! Saw your reviews of G700 and Q60T just now. Now after living with Q60R, I think a wide and nice soundstage is essential. So I'm deciding between the JBL 5.1 and Samsung Q800T. Not sure if the latter will improve upon the soundstage compared to Q60R. It's still three front facing channels. Maybe DTS: Virtual X will help in expanding it there. Atmos and true surround with rear speakers would be the benefits, even if it costs more, but narrower soundstage might still be a bummer. Can't decide. Lol
@@TotallydubbedHD Great reviews btw!
@@akashmakkar7187 thank you :) and it's a hard one, not tried the 800T, but if I'm not mistaken it's basically the newer Q70R, at which point, it'll be my top pick
@@TotallydubbedHD Q800T is kind of a downgrade from Q70R is some ways. The bar is 10cm smaller. It's almost the same bar as Q60T, same width, which makes me wonder whether the soundstage will again be lacking. More than surround, I actually want a wide soundstage now. So I'm leaning towards JBL 5.1 only because of the side firing tweeters.
Is the subwoofer boomy or can I turn down the volume?

I want to upgrade from my LG soundbar I have been using it for years with no issues. Wonder how's reliability for this JBL soundbar?

I tried this and you are right, thanks. The soundbar gets louder and has a more clear sound. At first, it didn't sound as good as my cheap Sony HT-SD35 soundbar, except for the bass. It's way better now. I did reset the soundbar to the original sound because I like more bass. I didn't see this setting in the manual, has this caused any problems with your soundbar? Also, I had to press the + volume button after holding for 55 sec. for it to change the sound. I hit the - volume button after 55 sec. the first time and it went into pairing mode.

@@bennivideo2164 that's fine but I hear everyone saying the bass on this thing is massive. I feel line the soundbar itself is 3x louder
nice!
thanks!
@@TotallydubbedHD Np! Cool subwoofer!
Weirdo.
I hope you see this, I love bass but also want a really good sound bar. So with that being said, the HW-Q800A or this JBL 5.1?
Two different soundbars; the Samsung is the better all-rounder imo, but the JBL has more bass.
Bass is always good
Does anyone also have problems activating the smartmode? When i click on mute for 3 secs and then op ''+" nothing happends? Do you need to hold mute also when clicking on +? And i see only 3 bass levels on the remote, while the instruction says there are 5. Does anyone have a solution for both of the questions?
Not sure bud, sorry! I didn't experience problems myself.

Is it better than lozitech z906 ? Like bass, output, clearty
I'd say so, yes
Sir I am planning to buy this jbl 5.1 or t bose tv speaker. I like overall sound quality. I am not a bass freak.please give me a suggestion.
Not tried the Bose, so can't comment
With this review, it feels that the yamaha yas 209 has the best soundstage..Am I right? Thanks
About the same, I'd say this is arguably better.
I'm not aware how Chromecast works, so please bear with me. My media device is an old Note 4 with the default Samsung Music player playing MP3s. Using Bluetooth, it plays fine on my AfterShoks headset and Ultimate Ears Bluetooth speaker-other Bluetooth devices too-so what I'd like to know is if my old phone will work with this device? Thanks for the great review btw.
Thanks! It should, but probably not via your music player that you're using. The Google home app for example is what you'll want to stream high quality audio to the soundbar. Or an app like Poweramp.
Bro really good video thanks but one question, can you connect this soundbar to a Sony speaker like mhc_v7d model?
A speaker? No - why would you do that?
Glad you liked the review!

First of all congratulations, best sound bar reviews i have ever seen in youtube, can you suggest me jbl2.1 deepbass & or JBL 5.1 new one, day to day to use like news channel & Amazon prome & Netflix etc , expecting reply from you. Thanks in advance.
Thank you, really appreciate the comment.
As for the bars, they're at different price points. If you got the budget the 5.1 would be the better pick for the audio quality!

Any recommend for a wireless 5.1 HT with separate rear speakers and also supports chromecasts?
a dedicated 5.1 HiFi Setup? Not reviewed enough of them to give you a recommendation, sorry.
how would you compare this to the majority sierra 2.1, both are similar price, with the JBL being like 70 dollars more
JBL better in bass, the majority better in everything else tbh
Friend, does this device support Dolby Atmos and Dts x? What codecs? Which Dolby and Dts???
It doesn't support them; pretty sure I mentioned this in the review.

@@TotallydubbedHD hi, can you review sony HTS700-RF ?
@@rizwanjafri1 would love to, but Sony isn't exactly the most responsive in sending press samples - and having requested the entire range over a year ago, I only received one for review; so to answer your question: no, but you can ask Sony lol.
A VERY SIMPLE QUESTION CAN BE CONNECTED TO ANOTHER SUBWOOFER TO THE BAR. TWO SUBWOOFER ONLY ONE BAR. HOW COMPETITION DOES IT. I WAIT FOR ANSWER. ASAP.
Please don't write in CAPS.
I don't know, you'll have to ask JBL support - not a simple question, as it truly depends on how it's connected etc. My guess is: no, it doesn't - and I don't know of any other wireless systems that support another sub input.
the bose 700 bar can connect 2 subwoofer to the wireless to sigle bar, that's why my question . if can connect to that jbl bar. sale single subwoofer in store. tha i ask.

I've not tried the Sony, but can't recommend the JBL for what it is.
Actually you could have a microphone connected to a laptop to get a true representation of the sound. There’s a few other ways too lol so no we don’t have to be standing there. Good review though I’m getting this! Thanks
Still wouldn't be accurate, but glad you liked the review.
I want to buy this jbl 5.1 with beam or "old" 5.1 with 2 seperate speakers - Please help to make a decision :) price for new version 500 and for the old one is 550. I do watch movies or music.

Can you tell me which one to choose?
Yamaha yas 209 or jbl 5.1 surround.
The JBL if they're the same price
I ordered the Samsung HW-N650 but i got an email from the webshop saying that the Samsung wasn't available anymore (older model). So now i ordered the JBL 5.1 Surround but i'm not feeling quite as enthusiastic as with the Samsung.I'm going to test it, maybe keep it, or send it back.If anybody has tips on other models i would be very thankful.
This should suffice for the price!

while the JBL is 353,- (euro's)i'm a bit worried about the surround of the Q70r do and maybe.I might consider buying the 8500s rear speakers in that case.I like bass but considering the mids are weak and bass overpowering the overal sound makes me want to buy the Q70r instead.
@@JeffDolls aw that's lovely to hear, thank you!
As for the q70r, if that's the price, I'd jump on it, that's the better soundbar imo, and you won't regret your purchase there!

Yes you get a smart mode on or smart mode off txt on the display.
Can you pair two JBL subwoofers to the sound bar?
As far as I'm aware, no
