In the Army they say: Don't Sir me, I work for a living!

No two star would ever say that. If you were to call a senior NCO Sir, then sure. But officers, nah.

I realize that Sir is a sign of respect; but people still call me Sir.

Up from Pay Grade O-8 to O-9 has no pay raise.20+ years O-8, -9, & -10 get the same pay. Fort Leavenworth has the the US Army Disciplinary Barracks. Portsmouth Brig is USN. Retired officers can be called back to active duty.

I wish they hadn’t cut this scene short, Cmdr. Rabb was about to say “Your county needs you, Sir” and you could see RADM. Boone’s expression that nothing more need be said, his country needed him, and by God he was gonna answer that call.

The correct response is, "Don't call me sir, I work for a living"!

If you are Enlisted. But since he was an Admiral, he was then an officer, so the admiral was definitely a 'sir'. Never call a First Seargent or any Seargent a 'sir'. Oh, and never a Drill Seargent, they take great offense.

Wish it had been revealed on JAG if Harm's family friend retired Admiral Thomas Boone was married and had children.

Terry O'Quinn played retired USMC Colonel William Ryan, who served with Gibbs in the Gulf's Crisis, in the Season 2 of NCIS.

He has done a lot of armed forces roles, JAG/NCIS as well as
      Admiral in Star Trek: TNG
      General in West Wing
      General in Harsh Realm
      LCDR in Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
As well as about half a dozen in movies, his first ever credited role was the heavily controversial western Heavens Gate where he played a retired Captain.

I hate when they use actors again and again, in the same series. JAG is the main series, side series is NCIS, side side of NCIS is NCIS LA, side series of NCIS LA is reviled to be Hawaii 5O. It’s Fking annoying when they use actors for a different character! Arggg!

Getting a fourth stripe/eagles is a feat in of itself, much less any number of stars as they require Congressional approval. Also, once at O-6, or E-7 and above a certain amount of years and/or security clearance or certain jobs, they are never really out, even if they retire. They can be subject to recall at anytime.
Most officers get to O-4(Major/Lieutenant Commander), O-5(Lieutenant Colonel/Commander) tops, retire, get and start another career. For NCOs its E-7 and above
The security clearances of such officers or NCOs alone is often more than enough to secure employment with any number of defense contractors, make very good money working for said contractors on top of retirement pay, VA benefits on top of whatever benefits whatever companies hire them.
If their money is handled correctly, said officers or senior NCOs will only work for someone if they want to, not because they have to.
