I have seen this plane in action today at the local field, flown by an expert flier. First of all, it seemed very underpowered and it tended to lose a lot of altitude in turns. The pilot had to use almost full throttle just to keep it aloft. Yes, it does roll quickly but the way I see it, it flies best if flown like the real SR-71. The real plane made very, very wide turns and was not meant to do tight turns or aerobatics or 3D or anything of that sort. In this plane, turns have to be rather wide. As much as RC flyers want to, this plane is not meant to do F3A style patterns or 3D. It's a spy plane. Yes, it can be boring to fly this way but in this case, this plane is best when flown scalelike. To me, it did not look like a radio glitch. It was much more of an asymmetrical stall that is so common in EDF jets that are not flown according to their flight envelopes. I see this a lot: people wanting to fly planes outside of their flight envelopes, with the expected results. The SR-71, again, is NOT a stunt plane. Yes, there are videos of RC pilots flying it like a pattern plane but to me, it's really risking it. Especially if you are flying near a school. Here where I live, no school will allow you to use its fields to pilot any RC vehicle, period. And this is posted in every single school I have seen. Same with most public parks. No RC flying allowed. You can only fly at a site especially designed for this in LA County.
Take the Viper jets. Yes, they are aerobatic and nimble. I do fly the FMS 15th anniversary one, but it must be treated with utmost respect. You cannot go crazy on them or they will really bite you very hard. They are notorious for tip stalling if you go just a tad too slowly in a turn, and they also can really tip stall if you bounce a landing and the plane becomes airborne without sufficient airspeed or if you floor the throttle instead of applying it gradually.

Hummm. I have been flying for 30yrs. I have 7 large turbine jets that I can’t post on CZcams. I know how to fly the sr71. Believe me or not , my Brother and the RC group who I fly with can back me up on this. For some reason this schools WiFi interferes with our planes and jets. I know you have to keep up speed on the turns because I have a turbine one.

Wild to see how many people don’t understand what’s going on. Poster said signal loss many times….. use your ears people. You hear can a hear a fan lose all thrust and one running at full speed just before the VMC roll over and then aerodynamic spin. This airplane doesn’t have rudder so there’s no way to counter the yaw during single engine ops. 1 reason why I don’t have this airplane. Yes airspeed was a factor, but not the cause. These airplanes don’t just lose an engine and regain the engine without signal loss or an ESC burning up. Great video and I’m shocked how the airplane wasn’t destroyed!!!!

Yeap. You have to keep her speed and don’t pull back on the elevators to much.

Failsafe should hold your speed on signal loss. Unless it's set wrong. I'm glad there was no serious damage. Tough little bird. Flying in area with known interference is still pilot error. 😉

@@ixtaisinakiopimedicinecrow8551 It's not easy finding a place to fly these EDFs anyway. Even the small ones.

very under powered! I did second flight , It struggled to lift off the ground even with a 120 c 2200 pack, and you must have full throttle and wide easy turns or start loosing altitude. You can chop the Throttle 20 percent so Try to trim so the nose Down more. I will fly next no gear. Cool Scale model anyway! Good Luck Fly fast!!!!!

Doubt signal loss is the issue. You are probably correct about the speed and such, Have to learn the flight characteristics. These incidents happen to all of us.

Trust me it was a signal lost. Been flying jets for 25yrs. The school is a bad place to fly due to the increased Wi-Fi there.

  • @CR5rc

Why do you think it lost signal from not being level and going slow? Makes no sense.
This jet is so small you couldn't fly it far enough away to lose signal before you lost sight of it.
You stalled, that's all I saw. It happens to us all at some time or another, no need to try to blame the radio.

@@vinnyspeedracerwon4659 I agree fully, if you're losing signal you need to remember that your toy carries enough kinetic energy to kill an adult.
If you lose control and hurt someone you don't get off the hook because you lost signal. Imagine the lawsuits and or criminal charges you could face if someone happened to be walking by right then. Million to one but still a risk in a public space, and then it also becomes illegal to fly in public spaces in your region.
      Pilot,
Are you fling with SAFE on? If so you really should not be flying in public spaces, you don't have control of your planes.
If not at all then never-mind, doesn't apply to you but still a bad idea to fly in public spaces.

      @ixtaisinakiopimedicinecrow8551  Před rokem

Nope. This jet you have to let it go straight and with speed. No pulling on the elevators. I know have to fly the jet. I just lost signal.

@@ixtaisinakiopimedicinecrow8551 I'm sorry, I can see where how I wrote my question could be interpreted like my questioning your ability: I wasn't. I was asking 100% about the stability of the modal and not at all about YOUR ability to keep it stable. It was obvious from the start you knew what you were doing. Now I understand what I saw as unstable was you recovering from the lost signal.
