- Rain was pouring down as I finished editing this episode. Trimming, speeding up the boring parts, voiceovers, text and music has taken three days, about 12 hours a day. I finished a few moments ago, straining to hear above the downpour, in the workshop, with the doors wide open. The windows in the travel trailer were open too. But NOTHING GOT WET! This weather front brought cool temperatures and I'm thankful that. I am sure the dogs are liking that nice breeze too. If it weren't for the awnings, I would have had to close the windows and doors, and, well...like I say in this video, 'Some of my best projects happen because I know how to sew.'

I was a Parachute Rigger in the Air Force, we used to sew all kinds of stuff... parachute risers, drag chutes, gunnery targets, g-suits, enging covers. Having sewing skills does come in handy.
I built hot rods and we always know a guy like you. 👍

I made a similar awning for my old Shasta Aeroflyte. I used a thick duct tape the reinforce the pocket and make it thicker. I used some RG 59 as the cane inside the awning pocket.
I have sewed Gore-Tex parkas (back when WL Gore would sell fabric to non-commercial people), fanny packs, back packs, bivvy-sacks and lots of other things. Why? Because I couldn't afford ready-made outdoor gear at the time The parkas were in kit-form from Frostline but they gave me a start. Everything else came out of my brain. It sure makes you able to plan in 3-D! It is actually kind of fun!

Hi Marty! Your work trailer is coming along very nicely! Somehow you take something that someone else trashed/threw out/junked, and work your “magic” (ie put your vast skill sets and ingenuity, creativity and talents to work) to make something awesome and useful! You can’t be afraid or hesitant of trying something new or putting hole(s) into something to make your ideas work! Being inventive, means to be confident in the skill set(s) one learns; put the brain and tools together and viola! Being creative is most satisfying when you have done it or improvised it yourself!

I no all about sewing i have one sewing machine that was my great grandmothers i even have a old treadmill it is powered by your foot and i have several commercial sewing machines and dematic and sergers 3 thread and 4 thread blind stitch machine and walkingfoot my grandma had a shop she was a slip cover upholstery drapery/ curtains and my Aunt had her shop as well. So i do know a lot about sewing. It looks good it will help keep it cooler in your trailer. For the work shop id two pipes to hold it up then use rope to the trees to keep it tight

Living "Off-the-grid" in Florida looks much easier than building for the Northern Woods of Michigan.
Your 2nd. Generation awning designs will probably have "side" panels for wind-driven rain protection, I'm predicting.
I too am pondering how long your cute little trailer will survive without constant maintenance and I'm wondering if it provides enough "Quality of Life" functionality . One of my sons lived in a similar trailer on Beaver Island in Lake Michigan , it didn't work out for him. These trailers are weekend campers, at best .

I'm realizing the you Marty are just like that Picture Painter on TV ( Ross ? ) , you create these fascinating projects like kayak design developments, Cabin Cruiser projects and now Off-the-Grid Living in Florida .

Awesome video Marty; great craftsmanship with the trailer/workshop and I think you could develop an awning system that most travel trailer owners could install themselves and be cost effective too. You would probably need to get it patent so it's your product and get a mfr to build it. This could help to build some income, which in today's economy, there is no such thing as too much money 💰.
Back when I first went to college (late 70's); I worked at a tv/sewing machine repair shop. Needlessly to say, I got my introduction to sewing. LoL. I learned how and how to repair and adjust machines that were out of time and replace worn/broken gears. Getting machines back to working order made the customers happy. So having the knowledge to sew isn't a bad thing at all, as your awning project worked out pretty good. 73 and GOD bless Earnest k5ewm.

Nice Video , Have had that same issue with a leaking slide out on my camper, would run down the wall and run towards the lowest point and caused the floor to rot.

There is no greater experience in life than to take on a project that is over your, and to complete it. You walk away think, "Wow I didn't know I had it in me. But I guess I do."
That sets you up to know, there is nothing to great for an Inventor.
P.S. The money you are saving living in that trailer can make it possible for you to maybe buy some property and build your own house on it. YOU CAN DO IT.! 👍😎👌

Some folks would call styrofoam ASMR torture. I got straight A's in Home Ec. I had a job in leather repair shop. I own an old parlor treadle, that I restored. It has that piping foot you are missing.
I have the same issue with a couple of my no aperture cameras in my shop, which I totally rebuilt with LED lighting. They will make those bands, especially if the LED tube is directly in the frame. Even with anti flicker settings on and correct, it can still do it. Since your GoPro doesn’t have an aperture it defends from over exposure by cranking up the shutter speed. Once you get up in the high one hundredths the bands show up as the shutter is firing faster than the mhz rate. It’s not so bad like you said if the camera is not moving, and if the light source is not directly in the frame. Yours are much lower than mine, as in right over the bench in some spots. Something I have found that works is to manually lock the shutter at 1/60 or 1/50 which is lousy for whipping the camera around by hand (blurring) but won’t band. It will force your camera to adjust with ISO instead of shutter. Give it a try. Still loving this construction series. Inspired me to organize and clean out my shop.

Marty, check your gopro for a flicker setting. I forgot what its called but there is a frequency related setting in gopro. Pretty sure its called flicker reduction 50 or 60 hz. You can try that. On a different note I have to applaud your courage with window shade project. I had to replace my entire awning on the motorhome alone and it was a pain in the arse... probably because I had to do it in 98F and 70% humidity hunched under my now removed (after it broke during light tornado) rv carport. Ditto on the rain. Here in Keysville we got 25 inches of rain since the memorial day and honestly I am SO SO SO over it now. As I am writing this... it is pouring cats and dogs outside.

The LEDs are working off PWM from your 110v HitLight transformers and dimmers (its turning them on and off really fast, faster than human eye can perceive). The lights are going in and out of a divisible sync with the camera's framerate. Changing the camera's framerate may or may not work, but it's easy to try (swapping 60/50 or 30/25 FPS)... A test to prove it is the dimmer/transformer is bypass the dimmer and transformer, just running the lights strips direct to two of the batteries in series to get your 24v; there won't be any PWM and it'll run the LED strips at a constant state.

You can add two little eye bolts below the awning for two tie downs? About half way down the window on both sides? Then a breeze wont be a problem :)
My brother did a lot of work on his rv tear out inside walls lights ceiling redid the whole thing two years later started leaking again so you’re right your bill cheap
Another thought. Buy another Goodwill Trailer. (CHEAP!!!) Transfer all the interior things that seem to be of higher quality from the travel trailer to the new GW trailer and you will be waaaaay ahead in longevity!
Led lights do that to the gopro. Im not sure there is a fix other than a different camera. Paul cuffaro has that issue with his fish building lights

hmm seems like the counter top LED strips frequency doesnt agree with the frame rate of camera. i get that when its stationary you dont see it but when the counter top lights are one even while stationary you can see a slight area where its dimmed on the recording. but how to repair, might have to deal with the LED drivers. not sure if you can adjust them but maybe it needs to be a different voltage or something. maybe someone smarter can chime in lol
And next thing Marty might do, is install an air conditioner!
