As cool as it is to have a lifted truck, sometimes there are inconveniences that make it a pain to own and drive. From turning radius, to not being able to fit in car washes or drive-thru's, sometimes lifted trucks can be a pain to drive. In today's video, Dustin talks about the 5 Things He Hates About His Lifted Truck! If we missed a reason, let us know in the comments below! Let's get into it!

The worst part about owning a lifted truck is the weekly trip to Goodwill to dispose of all the panties that get thrown at you.
😂
Outta pocket
Sounds like a good problem to have.
Wouldn't that be the best part
@@bryce817 Not from those heifers >
Ur truck looks a million times better with these tires, rather then the street tires u had on it before Dustin
Big facts
Thanks guys! I also dig it a ton with the trail graps! -Dustin
@@CustomOffsetsTV keep it that way it suits the truck better too in my opinion. If u have a big diesel truck u should have a decently thick off-road tire
@@CustomOffsetsTV can’t go wrong with nittos
What is your set up Dustin?
Least favourite part is the sound of gravel hitting my doors when I drive down loose gravel!
I'm sitting here laughing at Dustin complaining while looking out the window with a tear in my eye knowing full well that truck out there has all these issues too 😂
The struggle is REAL! -Dustin
Great video. This is one of the reasons I bought a TRD Pro Tundra. It came with 2 inch lift from the factory which for me is just right. High enough the truck looks great but not so high it impacts the mpg do to more drag. I also went with 285/70/18 Nitto Ridge Grapplers (34.5's) due to them not being so big that they impact my mpg but give the truck a nice aggressive look that fills up the wheel well.
My brother had a lifted F-150 Ecoboost with a five inch lift and 37's on it and he got 10 mpg city and about 12 on the highway. That 3.31 rear end and twin turbos just could not handle that lift and tire package well at all.
My 4.30 rear in my Tundra just eats up mine and I'm getting 15 city and 17-18 highway.
This felt like it was more about 14” wides than lifted trucks. There are a lot us living the lifted life struggle without a -76 offset. You missed about 10 other things
Yeh really
@WRECKLESS SHOGUN you are right since this comment I put 22x12 -51 on and I do feel that difference it’s definitely more stable in turns
@SAMURAI GRAPES I'm glad u mentioned that cause one thing I hate about my lifted truck is effectively driving it on windy days
@@MrBiglig yeah but wheel bearings go out quicker
When you have to work on the engine but it's so tall you're just laying down on top of the engine....short folk struggle.
I’m a 46 year old drywall hanger with a newer Silverado 2500 stock. I use my truck for work like hauling tools and making money every day. Everything hurts. Hahaha!!!!!
If I were building a lifted truck...it would have the same exact stance as Dustin's. Same size lift, same size diameter Wheels but maybe 12 wides instead of 14s. His setup is just perfect... 👌👌👌
If you want the stance of 14 wides but want to go with 12 wides add 2 inch spacers and you will achieve about the same stance.
@@Back_door_bandit_98 True, true. But I would try to run without spacers because I want some poke but not 5"-6" worth.🤣 Just about 2"-3" worth. But you never know exactly how it's going to look until you actually put the wheels & tires on the truck. If it didn't have enough poke, I would definitely throw some spacers on tho 👌👌👌
@@jaycustom21 I feel you with my experience I’ve always thought it was gonna be enough poke but ended up falling short so now I over estimate so it’s right at what I want or maybe a little more.
i fit through most drive through with 24x14 37s and a 8in lift, i just put my truck on a 3in and 33x10s because i got so tired of the lifted life, i also washed my roof for the first time since i lifted it🤣
There has been noticeable changes to my truck but I wouldn't change it, I love it.
4" BDS lift kit and 35x12.50r17 mickey thompson baja boss AT's gave my ram 1500 a 6" lift total from what it came with stock
So the turning radius and extra force on the front end is 100% related to wheel and tire choice, not the lift. The close that the wheel is to 0 offset the less stress is placed on suspension and steering components. The more negative offset (and narrower tire), the smaller the scrub radius and the tighter it will turn. This is why sticking your tires 12 feet outside of the fender is not the best idea.
Yeah it gets worse the taller you go! I've got an 84 Chevy k10 that's been my project for 10 years now. Bought it as a backup for my daily driver and every year it gets bigger and less streat legal. Pretty much a competition mud truck now that barely passes for street legal lol
I hate the slinging of mud an water all over the side of my truck an lord forbid I have the window down😩 I love my 22x14 Akron’s but the struggle to keep it clean is all to real 🤬
I don’t really hate anything about my lifted truck but 8” lift kinda make 37” tires look small
That's why I have a 6" and 37s and honestly I still wanna go bigger
@@bhswarrior94 yessir go for it you’ll love it , i think I’ll go with 40s it’s just that I’m trying to avoid road noise since all 40s available are only MTs 🤷🏻♂️
@@the50coach that's what I was thinking I could probably go with 40s on a 7-9" kit but I kinda wanna go 12". 40x15.50s is about all I personally trust the IFS with though.
@bhswarrior9432 I got 40's on a 8" no rub but when I put the 2" spacers on I had to do some cutting to make a sharp turn, I want to do like a 3" body lift if I can find a shop to do it
My truck isn’t lifted yet. I’m waiting on my coil overs to come in from BDS. (Getting a 4 1/2 lift) But, I get people always high beaming me because I sit higher because of my bigger tires and they think that I have my high beams on. And with my c4 front bumper everyone that looks aggressive, I get a lot of people break checking me.
2015 Sierra 5.3 7" 35x12.5. AFM lifter failed. pulled the engine. but i had to pull the wheels off and lower it to almost sitting on the rotors just to be able to work
Dang you outlined that perfectly. I always get people trying to race me and I’m just on stock exhaust with 7in of lift. It’s so annoying!!
Also, since I removed my running boards, a top complaint of mine is people putting their weight on the door as they step up into the truck. Or how my leather seat has worn differently from me getting out of it without running boards (and yes I have a nice step down technique but my seat says otherwise lol)
It's probably because it's a moron magnet no offence lol. But that tends to be the people who drive them ...
Definitely visibility issues. I’m on a 3 inch body and 6 inch suspension and I had to install a front camera to see tiny cars un front of me
I put a leveling kit and 35s on my second gen. Now everyone complains about getting in. It’s a bit taller then my buddies 1500 chevy round body with a 6 inch lift and 33s for comparison
What I hate is that I can’t park in parking structures anymore. I was literally two inches from the ceiling and felt like I was going to hit all the lighting fixtures.
Only thing that bothers me is the rake on my gooseneck ;( I’ve thought about lifting the trailer but making the center of gravity higher doesn’t seem wise but neither does towing at gooseneck at all with a 14in lift
What size grapps you running? I’m hating my 35x15.50 venoms but I can’t do stretch
I love the wheels I got from y’all they look great on my 2005 Z71, also that’s a badass Duramax you got Dustin mines only a 5.3 But I’ll never sell it 🤣
Make sure you add 'er to the gallery! customoffsets.com/add
Honestly I've never had issues with front end parts wearing out that fast and typically and for the most part people give me room and get out of my way but I do have a big bumper on the front of bolth of my trucks lol
Don't forget about how much harder it is to use the bed... You know, the whole purpose of a pickup truck.
Ah, but they have cranes...
I love that you have a dark blue truck with chrome wheels, dark blue and black I just don’t think looks good. I am struggling to find chrome wheels with a classic look. Do you have any recommendations?
I'm thinking about lifting my 2022 nissan frontier 6 inch lift. Wat you think
I got a 7” lift on 35x12.5 and i cant do u turns and cant even consider parking in most city lots but i manage just fine
You missed one big one and that is towing capability and the sway that you get from having a taller lifted truck as well as less towing capacity, those to me are big, as well as having not much benefit from wider wheels, especially in snow because in snow you want the tire to dig not float , The only time a wide tire would come in handy is in sand
I have a 4” lifted truck with 10 wides and it’s all about capability for me
7 inch lift on 35s with -18 offset, honestly my turn radius isnt that bad, its not great but manageable. I do agree that certain drivethus suck. I cant go to my local Arbys and a carwash anymore!!! their shit was annoying even before the lift, now I just dine in and go to a diff car wash. Good points in vid but its all worth it!!!
Jumping on the tire to clean the hood... the feels
Don't have to worry about most of that here in Aus. Can't have it.. lol. Tyres must be within the guards, Lift restrictions and we don't have the larger trucks like you have a few and far between because they cost a bomb.
I know I’m late lol but would a 07-13 Silverado with a 6 inch lift on 35s fit in a 7 ft garage or car wash?
I gotta say that the turn radius and the water splash every time you drive through standing water are by far what I hate about driving my lifted truck on oversized tires.
Just makes the truck get dirty so fast ugh
MaaaAaaAaannN, when u mentioned about foolz alwayz tryin 2 race me in my lift Silverado on 26×12 wrapp"d in 37'z i just smh
Omg I love Dustins Truck it’s so badass looking
Thanks man! I dig it too! -Dustin
i cant reach the center of my hood without standing on my stock wheels anyhow, sooooo... not big loss for me. i just pull out the step bench ladder and wash with that ...adding my 6' and 37's on my 2022 f350 in june
Was pretty cool to actually go to the shop
Old job I had they had underground parking... didn't work so well with my truck
You said it brother but if you got rid of that IFS and went with some smaller rims and kept the large tires you’d have no worries.
Truck sounds and looks good Dustin 👍🏼
I love my truck 7inch lift 2010 blk 1500 4x4 blacked out...22s 35s 12" wides....I hate washing it...I want running boards..but it won't look as high...I hate getting in and out...but when I'm outside looking at it..I just want to drive it and show it off...it's a love and hate relationship with my truvk
What level kit you have done to yours looks sick 💯
This guy is funny 😂. Nice vid!
To put it simply, the worst part about having a big lifted truck is that it’s just too damn big 😂 we’ve won but at what cost 😭
#3, you could win races if you re-geared for the larger tires. So many don't do this crucial step...
Honestly when I had my truck I never hated anything about her other than the clearances and the parking structures. That I couldn’t fit in or I’m barely squeezing in with like half of a fist worth of clearances.
We need an episode of Dustin’s rode rage 😂😂
•Drive thru ATM / or bank
DRIVING IN WASHINGTON DC.
Narrow asssssss streets😤🤣
If you had 12.50s you could fit into the car wash wheel lock stuff they use to push ypu
I hate NOTHING about my lifted truck, in fact the only time I do hate it is when I'm driving something else!!!😂😂😂
Don't feel bad. We were all young and dumb once! ;)
The last two are somewhat in the same category. I didn't wash my truck before the lift so it didn't make any difference after. I didn't go wide so I don't have a problem with drive throughs. The issue I had was with night time driving which I needed to upgrade my headlights and adjust angles and its still not fantastic. Also people who don't drive trucks like to slide off your seats like it's a slide at a playground.
Good lord I hate that slide. All I can see is the seat tearing/wearing down. The running boards are still on for a reason! Also I think I hate the improper headlight guys more than car drivers because they make us look bad.
@@gill998 Headlights are a true potential hazard and nuisance. Maybe some drivers of lifted trucks think that's just people whining, but they are the ones who will be in the head-on collision if something bad happened because your headlights are blowing people's eyes out.
Honestly modern trucks are higher than older ones stock so I didn't lift or level mine cuz it sucks from a practicality stand point. I like the lifted look just didn't decide to do it
Everything you said makes having a lift better always lift your trucks cause why not
I hate absolutely nothing about driving my lifted rig. 😎 when someone tries to race me in my lifted truck that’s when the mallet supercharger comes into play lol
I hated the horrible gas mileage I got in my old 2015 Platinum 3.5 Ecoboost after I threw an 8 inch lift and 22x37s on it, my mpgs were obliterated. Braking at high speeds became a chore also. Parking was nerve wrecking but having to baby it was probably the one thing I hated the most. It was super easy to change the oil though. 🤙🏿
I have a lifted suburban… n yea number one thing I hate is…….that it drinks to much gas…
I'd say besides the mpg is the rough ride. I have a 13 Tundra with a 3" lift and the ride is just insane. Feels like the smallest bumps are going to knock my teeth loose. Raised areas on the highways at 70mph gives me sort of a catapult sensation lol.
Try a different set of tires, maybe less aggressive ones, they can make a big difference in the way your truck rides.
@@edleifer6719 I may at some point. But I just got the truck in sept and it came with a new set of tires. 35x12.5x20. Hankook AT3s I believe.
Go Toyo Open Country AllTerrains. Game changer. Been through 2 sets already. Extremely smooth for a lifted truck.
@@mykiemojito1157 Will have to look into those when it is unfortunately time to buy tires hehe.
I have a 2019 Colorado Z71 with a 5.5 zone lift on 33x12.6 Nitto Trail Grappler MT's (aggressive tread) and it's smooth as silk. The ride quality may just be You lift kit and shock choice.
Ahh yes , here we are meeting again on CZcams. ROCK LIGHT PLACEMENT video ?
How wide are you wheel spacers ?
Yea Im running 35s on my Jeep with a straight pipe and for some reason everybody still wants to race. I literally have a sticker on the back that says “not fast just loud” and they still want to race
I’m 12 and like 5ft 4in so I have to step on the wheel of my dads stock Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trail boss to clean it
You forgot that people will bright light you for no reason.
Trying to wax the roof of a crew cab I'm 6'1" and have to bust out a step ladder. Now I know how short people feel
Preach!
i just want to be able to turn so i’m gonna have to lift my truck.. 12 wides on stock suspension suck on a chevy
The worst part is definitely replacing ball joints annually lol but It takes big bucks to drive big trucks! (Our roads are horrible in my town)
Buy some good ones like kryptonite or Dynatracs and they tend to last longer! (depends if there is any available for your platform!)
I love my lifted tundra dog , shit sleighs man . Owned them my whole life 7” pro comp 35”/20/12 yeah😎👍✌️
Worst part of owning a lifted truck is when u have to move furniture or appliances! Getting them on and off 😡 too high
It gets rough 😂
Get a rear brace bar (and don't tell them it's removable) xD
Def the MPG
How has no body mentioned the 12mpg we get on gas :(
nobody wants to talk about that crap, it is just a pain you learn to live with.
do i spy an Idash data monster from banks on the truck may haps you have the tuner and pedal monster
Hows the riding quality?
I hate that there is always a different set up I want and I'm not satisfied with my set up. Lol
It never goes away lol
I have a 6” king lift on my 1st gen tundra and my answer is I can’t get Kryptonite support 😂😂
I'm just trying to figure out what headlights Dustin has
I would never lift my truck. I have a 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab and I plan on getting 22 x 10's or 12's for it with maybe a leveling kit if it needs it. I think having a pickup with the elevated view is nice enough.
You are going to have to do a lot of trimming to fit those wheels.
Feels like a video on why not to get 14 wides
FACTS!!
Fellas he is not lying everybody is trying to race you. When got a lifted truck.... Soon as you look in your mirrors on the Hwy. And you see another lifted truck. You better believe he's gonna try to pass your ass .... I be like okay let's race 😂😂😂
Since lifting mine it rides like shit and ...you can't reach stuff in the bed and definitely the carwash thing really sucks...pretty much the only good thing is looks...other than that it sucks....I wouldn't do a 6 in again...maybe a level.
“Always dirty”
*Laughs in Yellow Truck*
When he said “WHAT r U DOiNg?!!!?!”
I felt that.
These setups look sick, but they’re just not practical! I’ll stick with my 20x10s, -25 offset, 33.5” tires, and a 4” lift, plus fender flares to keep things clean.
Same setup minus the flares. No complaints at all.
Practical lift that can be used work at the same time. Don't get me wrong I love the other set ups also, but I'm with ya, need my truck to work
Yeah that’s the same setup I went with for my 2017 Ram because it doubles as a work truck I load and unload the bed constantly and I’m only 5’9 so 6”+ on 35’s+ would’ve been a pain to work out of. Question though, how well do those fender flares work keeping the truck clean with the -25 offset? I have the same offset and kinda like the look of flares and was considering it if they worked at keeping the truck cleaner too
@@Mr_Glock19 They help keep most of the mud and rocks away from the sides. -25 makes the tires just about even with the lip of the flares, maybe just a hair inside the lip. It’s not perfect, but it helps! And yeah I think they look great. I’ve got a black-and-white theme going with my truck, so I left em unpainted and apply some UV blocker every now and then.
@@Mr_Glock19 get the extend a fender by Bush Wacker, covers percect
My truck isn’t even lifted and people always try and show me up in it. Idk if it’s the exhaust or what
ok so i want coilover lift kit for my 1978 Ford F-150, but RC doesnt have any and King doesnt either.
i want a coilover lift kit that i can trust. yall have any idea what i should get?
For something that old you’d be looking for custom unfortunately
@@CustomOffsetsTV do yall know who i could go to for that?
Lifted trucks are nice for the trails but that's it. Working under the hood would suck and for me you really lose the use of the bed which is really why I have a truck.
I hate that I keep ripping my jeans getting in or out
It’s the worst
If you do any mechanical work yourself...not being able to reach into the engine bay! I hate having to have a 3 stair step stool to get to my spark plugs!
YES
I love a good lift but if you use your truck for work or daily driver it just becomes an obstacle more then anything Unfortunately I can only afford one truck so it's gotta stay at the stock height
my 5th gen Ram 2500 HD is stock height and i can't reach the center of my hood lol
This video should be titled, why I hate my 14 wides
What year is your Chevy?
Thing i hate the most about my lifted truck is, I dont have a lifted truck yet and soon I'll and repost about what I love about my lifted truck 🙏...
I think the worst thing is that it makes it less of a work truck in most cases
Absolutely Try loading a pallet of shit into a lifted bed Lol No thanks
That’s why a bed lined my whole truck never looks dirty 😂😂😂
Yes 🙌
10mpg. That’s what I hate. 😂
