When i was a kid i had a multitool called excalibur that is identical to this tool. Its a pretty unknown tool.
Every day for the last 47 years I've daily carried a Victorinox Swiss Champ, and it too has a compact set of pliers.
On first sight most think they're too small to be practical, however, that's not the case.
Of course they're no substitute for one's workshop tools, and forget undoing truck wheel nuts with them!
However, for applications they fit, they excel, and are outstanding for repairing jewellery, and in 47 years that's the thing I have done quite a lot of!
As with any tool, you are limited by imagination only!
So before writing off a tool, actually use it, those pliers will find multiple applications, especially electrical, that they'd be outstanding for.
For shears, I carry a Leatherman Micra, and between my Swiss Champ scissors and my Micra shears, I have it covered!

The Dewalt 20v is just as light as the competitor's 12v. I am extremely pleased with the overall performance and battery life of this tool. As far as oscillators go, they just aren't very ergonomic tools. The dewalt oscillators have an offset handle that do make them somewhat more ergonomic than the competitors' oscillators.
I have these sheers in my MP600. They are great, I take them foraging and mushrooming.

Those fold out pliers look a lot like the fold out pliers on some of the standard Victorinox swiss army knife models. I have a super tinker model that I keep on my nightstand that has fold out pliers that work well enough. The pliers aren't as good as a Leatherman type multi tool pliers but for light use the swiss army pliers work well
I've had several of these, and their functionality is pretty exceptional. The main scissor blades are devastating tbh. Would be even better if they were serrated slightly

The sheets are amazing! Reminds me of a weird combo of the Gerber MP600
Body, with sheets instead of pliers. victorinox 91 mm small pliers on the outside and maybe sog type inner implements and blade. Very cool and honestly puts in the work. Great video! You don’t really see videos on this one often

They aren't really designed for branches, but apparently work surprisingly well.
You can make it a lot easier on your hands, wrists and underarms if you put a lil tension on the twig by bending it.
Trust me, it took me a tennis elbow to start following that advice and where a twig bit thicker than my thumb would've been the absolute max during that injury, putting a lil bit of a bend would let me do it with literally two fingers.

Get a chiropractor to manipulate your wrist. Your tennis elbow will be gone.

@@user-zh4vo1kw1z : I had tennis elbow for 8 mon. and with 8 mon. of physio, I was no better. My father in law was a chiro and he asked how my arm was and I told him it was no better. He asked if he could try something. He felt around my wrist and told me some of the bones in my wrist were out of position. He adjusted it twice in 3 min. and I swear, 3 days later, I didn’t even know I had ever had tennis elbow. And that’s no B.S.!
Very interesting. looks like it would very useful outdoors. Small pliers would actually be very useful for splinters and removing/making fish hooks.

them small pliers are more usefull than anyone gives them credit for
probbly used and abused them more than the knife at this point, and more than my large pliers just because I go them them first instead of crossing the garrage, shed, garrage, house to get the larger set
ive bent steel with them, pulled nails with them, undone bolts with them, pulled splinters with them, name anything you do with a pair of regular pliers and if it fits in the jaws of the smaller ones they will do it abet with more swearing and a sore hand sometimes
the shears make this great for cutting network cable, cable ties and Velcro - all things I come across daily as an installation tech - and the one handed knife is a great addition for opening up all of the boxes that the equipment comes in... think I might have to get me a set

I like those shears, I have a couple of the Roxon models because they have good scissors but this one beats those. The disappointing thing for us Canadians is the price difference, it would be acceptable if they were twice the price of what you pay, but here they cost $40.01 with free shipping for prime members.

Glad the Paul Chen multitool is still available. I got one many years ago. They also make great Carbon steel swords of all types.
I have a personal hatred of this tool because I accidently cut my headphone wires with it, and now I hate it more because it's $13 now and I paid $30 for it like 6 years ago.
Also for anyone wondering you can cut the thickest part of a toothbrush in half.

Great shears on this tool! The will cut through lots of hard materials. The knife blade in not bad either. I take the Professional on hikes with dog to get rid of random thorn branches. Also useful just to prune things around the lawn and garden. Totally agree that the pliers are useless and that they detract from the toolset and actually carrying the tool. Complete waste and I need to remove them. Thanks for all the excellent videos on your channel. Appreciate your effort.
I own those, extremely capable, but ALL side/inner uses are beyond crap.
I removed the small pliers and the inner uses just to end up with a single blade knife.
Not a true multitool but very good compact shears.
Btw I know a guy who installed those shears into a Gerber MP300's body I believe or some Gerber MPs, can't remember exactly but the end result was perfect.
Two words: RangerGrip 71. This set of shears, knife, and saw by Victorinox is top notch, though many times the price. They're around $82, but I got some for mid-40's 2 years ago, and they're listed at that but out of stock somewhere now. YMMV.

Perfect for gardening and pruning. The pliers looks like the run away from a Victorinox Swisschamp. Yes i like this gardening multitool.
honestly i think those pliers might be pretty useful in certain cases, like when holding something hot/heating something on the end of it
Also for fishing and small electronics, they look like victorinox SAK pliers which are extremely useful when you get the hang of it, they get used more than regular pliers for me, because they are super thin, precise

I honestly can't believe that none of the big boys have gone for the "pick your base, pick your tools, we ship it to you" tool.
A fully modular, or at least interchangeable, toolset would fit the huge demand from people (like me) who like/want about half of the toolset on the off the shelf units. And I am certainly NOT gonna pay full price for that, so it's cheap secondhand fare for me.
And for the people who are allready into the "yeah kinda good enough" stuff (which is a bafflingly huge crowd as each leatherman marketing stunt proves), they would probably buy out the entire tool- and base sets.
Yeah it wouldnt be much to build a base like this one has and the main tool turns out to be a double sided ratched drive, one side 1/4 the other 3/8 with a set of sockets in a second belt pouch. A locking adjustable wrench head makes a lot of sense too. Or just a detented stub that allows different tools to be put on. Turn a small multitool into something thats a real too.
Imagin that you have a multitool and it has the regular blad and saw and file and drivers and openers on it. But the main tool slides out and it could be a full size saw, a small light duty hammer (how many times to you use a multitool hamfistedly like a hammer?
You could put anything from a 1/4 to 1/2 drive ratchet on it. Pruning lopers could go on there, the main body of the tool could be locked closed, then the main body acts as one handle of the tool, and the moving handle is part of the attachment. You coild put a snap ring plier on it.
A real set of locking pliers.
A large serious blade.
OLD Leather Smith here , very nice, great 4 the beginners, when I make earings 4 a client I ask how large they want them, when I am making them I always make 3 sizes and show them 2 the client on pickup most times they will pick up 2 sizes the last I Dave 4 a sample of my work. I’ve had one of these for years. Everything works loose and the plastic around the depression buttons to open the shears snapped within a week okay for the price.
Wild, I remember my uncles has had this same exact thing for like 20 years now 😂 I thought the mini pliers were cool
so this looks like am interesting tool, and seems to me to be slightly weighted more towards fishing. Primary tool being the shears, with a low profile set of pliers being better suited to hook removal, and a sharpening groove for your hook in the file. I am highly interesting in seeing this shear applied to a gerber centerdrive frame, just to be able to supply more options for a gerber
G'day mate.! It will be a great & educational vid if you do take the multitool apart & mod it, making it more functional & probably worth more in value & usages. We actually mod something similar for our uncle who is into Bonsai. We took some old leftovers from other generic multitool & turn it into a Bonsai multitool, with a combo shears, almost all of the tool is detachable including the pliers where we took from a SAK. There's no bottle or can opener, it's replace with chisel grind pry, mainly for cutting & scraping of tiny branches. Made some adjustment to the pocket clip so it can hold firmly an adaptor/extension that will hold extra bits ( all either cutting or scrapping where a longer reach is required. Taking to acount that is a shears based multitool it's great on the main tool... The others are ok at best... An interesting thing is the file wich can be pulled out to resharpen the Shears or the knife part... The side pliers are kinda "Meh" more like the ones appearing on the 91mm victorinox SAKs
To stop the slipping, you can try adding your own serrations to it

Very much made for a fisherman, i feel. Pliers for hooks. File with hook groove. Shears for removing spikes and fins. The drivers are just a plus.

Once I removed the pliers, these shears became one of the most useful multi tools I have ever owned.
i wouldnt think these shears right for gardening but i can imagine a spesific job it might be good for eg cutting really stiff packing straps, some of them are hard plastic or even thin metal,.
In my experience tools this cheap just break though
If those shear blades came in a serrated version, it would work better on small branches

Like Karen Stein stated below, if you're intent is gardening, separate and more capable tools would be better. A pair of Kynups will only cost you $13 and cut up to an inch in diameter with little effort. Put a Corona Razor 10" in your back pocket and you're ready for anything larger. The nicest item on this kit is the file that's made for fishing, which makes me believe that's the target use more than gardening.
Having used the best multitools and multi-knives, I have a contrary opinion: You might as well, and are better off, carry the actual separate tools .
Why? The tools are more capable, work better, and might even weigh less. Multitools are heavy.
So, what’s in my kit?
My knife is a folding Stirling box cutter, using common replacement blades.
Saw? A drywall saw, screwdriver-like handle, 6” blade with sheath.
Can opener? A larger Australian P-38.
File? A butterfly style DMT two sided diamond “stone.”
Pliers are 5” Channellocks. Heavier alternative: 5” Vise-Grips.
A pair of real bypass pruners. Mine are Corona.
Scissors are a 7” pair of hair cutters.
Screwdriver? Can’t beat the Klein 10-in-1.
I agree with your opinion over-all. Multitools are useful for light duty "emergencies" and fishing companions. I used an old Cobalt drywall saw as a limb saw years ago. They work great. Didn't have have a sheath so I made one from a bicycle tire. After that became dull I bought a Corona Razor 10" folding. Amazing, light weight tool at a great price. The newest version hides all the teeth when folded. My pruners are Kynups. They won out over Corona because of the cheap lock on the Corona. They fit very snug in the Corona leather scabbard. I had an ancient pair with the same locking mech. They were frustrating when locking by accident.
I’ve been carrying Leatherman since they hit the market, WAVE since that came out. Not going to replace my WAVE, but for the price this is definitely worth checking out. Should be a good young person gift or backup tool for door pocket or glove compartment in the car.👍

Aww, i've had one of these for years! The pliers on the side are very poor, but the shears are really good, they become a bit loose after a while but still work great. Can't wait to see what other people think. Haha, never thought I'd see this getting review.

If I still rode ambulances I'd get this. They seem to have just the tools for that job. I'd at least like to see how they fair against trauma scissors. As for the plyers, I'd like to know how well it would do with an O2 tank.
Definitely interested, but can't see myself picking up a low quality tool that won't last. Hoping Leatherman or Gerber would make something like this

those shears work pretty well on metal aswell, wire mostly and thin sheet
One of these in a Gerber 600/800 frame would probably make a damn good backup rescue sheers. Smaller form factor than the Leatherman Gator sheers. Makes for a nice tool in a medium trauma kit for the car or anywhere else...👍🏻
The scissors on a Leatherman Micra can cut a copper penny in half relatively easily.
I call bs...I can barely cut most fabrics cleanly only 1 of 6 I had proper cutting geometry. I had one snap on a zip tie and that's way easier.

That grove in a file is great for touching up hooks. The shears look like they would cut braid too. Wonder how it would hold up in s saltwater environment.

Paul Chen has several companies in Taiwan and I assume China, they are the OEM for lots of big name brands. I believe the RAT knives and Esse folders are made by a Paul Chen company.
Someone being able to warp the action with their bare hands like that doesn't bode well for the build quality haha, but it's certainly a nice cutter design. Have you found any flush cutter multi tools?

Seems a little redundant. It has a knife for cutting, a small pliers that will cut thin wire or thread or fishing line, and shears that don't look like they can do much. I just don't see the practical use that you could get in a garden or anywhere else that a pair of pruning shears couldn't out perform.
As scissorholic it looks AMAZING but in my opinion it would be nice swapped scissors and plier and be minimal. Looks great though.. as you mentioned the plier is seems thick enough and the shear looks very handy but for normal EDC, it just look too big for me. but man 13$? it is miracale..
Generally, strength is more critical in pliers than shears, as I use them. Cool, though. Awesome price! Odd that it doesn’t fully close.

For the price… sure. But in general a gardener will be better off with a real pruner + water pump pliers + multitool of choice.
