    I can do around 10 sec handstand on the ground and around 10 sec with parallets. I was training about 2 - 3 month to be able to do the one on the ground. Recently I tried it with parallets and only after a few tries I felt pretty stable. I really think it depends on the person which variant is easier. It is true that you have more surface doing a handstand on the ground. For me though it is hard actually even painful to put a lot of pressure on my fingertips during the handstand on the ground. I also have the pain you described with parallets though. I think the reason with the handstand on the ground is so much easier for you is that you have a lot of finger strength bcs of your climbing background and this is combined with balance the most important for holding a handstand on the ground

I remember that it took me about a month or less to achieve the same when I could already handstand on the ground and thought that was aready long. Now I almost always handstand on paraletts and would always agree that it is much easier than an on the ground as you have way more control to adjust in different ways.

      @millacabral9475 Před 3 lety

      Just be careful to not hurt yourself, sometimes you get too used to bending and straightening for balance and you can end up either bending too much and landing on your head or locking out too fast/ hard and messing up your elbows. The eventual goal is to do it with straight arms, the bending is like a crutch that should be used sparingly and slightly.

    Wow, like you I’ve watched many CZcams videos for handstand tips but this video revealed several things I’ve been searching for.
    For example, it is universally stressed that you must keep your elbows straight, even locked out. But whenever I’ve managed to hold a handstand for more than a few seconds, it’s when I bent my elbows and I thought that was cheating!
    A second point is that your shoulders are not open enough when you use the parallettes and you actually find your balance when your legs are angled forward. I think my lack of shoulder flexibility is also what makes bent elbows essential to find the balance. Interestingly you seem to open your shoulders to 180 degrees on the floor.
    Finally, as many have commented, parallettes are easier if the bar is thicker (less pain) and you can grip them tightly using your wrists to balance both directions.

I finally have the straight line form down. One word of advice: point them toes and you'll have the perfect form. Also, if you point your toes, your toes will hit the wall instead of your heel!

    Thank you! I always struggled with parallettes too, it feels much harder. I think there is a big difference in balancing on thick or thin bars, though, mine were entirely too thin when I first got them, so I had to increase the diameter a good two centimeters to be able to hold it without too much pain and having enough surface area to grip and balance properly. If you notice gymnastics p bars, for example, they are quite chonky, they allow for a full grip and better sideways stabilization, I believe.

    Interesting to see different perspective.. I started to learn handstand on the ground and practiced for let´s say 2-3months. I was getting some shorter holds but still struggled, especially with a kick-up (as you also mentioned). However, then I tried my first handstand on p-bars and after some fearfull attempts (because of bigger height), I started to feel more and more comfortable on them. I could even make shapes after some time (straddle, tuck, diamond), which was almost unimaginable on the floor at that time haha. The point is, that to me parallettes always felt more "natural". It feels like I can take more advantage of a better grip & forearm strenght. Handstand push ups also feel kind of more comfortable on p-bars than floor for me (even with a bigger range of motion). This comment is getting too long.. Anyways, I enjoyed watching the video :)

    I agree with the other guy somewhere in this comment section saying that your parallettes might be bad. The grip part looks really short and curved at the ends while the base looks tall and unstable. Really suboptimal design even if it wasn't the main problem for your progreas.

    Congrats! You are a true testament to learning a skill. 💯 Whoa-u have a brother and doing acro yoga? Why didn’t you include him in earlier stuff or why not confer before going on journey? Maybe it’s beta spray part of learning for yourself. Great video. Your heels should be hard as steel by now; covering wall hole reminds me of my room when I was growing up-but mine was from anger, not from balance fun. 😳

    Great vid, could you do a video breakdown of the false grip in the paralletes I tried hs on them too and I eventually developed an overuse injury due to my wrist being in the ulnar deviation and not in a neutral position which derailed me from the hs

    I also learnt handstand on the ground first and it is completely different when you transition to parallettes mainly because you are using different muscles and technique. However, I think it is meant to be easier for beginners because you can use your forearm and wrist muscles to balance in both directions and it might be easier for a lot of people to generate force in this position. The CZcamsrs weren't lying! Geekclimber was just unlucky about his hand pain and probably overestimated the transfer from floor to p-bars.

    • @toniriediger7961
      @toniriediger7961 Před 3 lety

      Honestly I think he should just have gripped harder. Only possible way I can imagine that the hands hurt on parallels is when you kind of „dead grip“ it

    • @Asdfghjkl-ls1or
      @Asdfghjkl-ls1or Před 3 lety +2

      @@toniriediger7961 interesting point, sometimes gripping the bar harder you realise can help with balance. However I think its perfectly normal for him to have some pain in his palm doing this for his first time, I've had some discomfort before when doing weighted dips for example. I think you just need to build up tissue in you hands

    • @GeekClimber
      @GeekClimber  Před 3 lety +4

      Even if you could use bigger muscles more easily on the parallettes, that still doesn't change the fact that the room for balance is a lot smaller. For some reason I find it very difficult if I don't have enough room to correct my balance.

    • @MahdiDesigns
      @MahdiDesigns Před 3 lety +3

      @@GeekClimber its true you have less distance for balance but you also have two balance points on the parallettes. One is where your palm pushes onto the bar and the other is where your finger pulls from underneath the bar. On the floor you can only push into the floor to correct balance

    • @marco_dl
      @marco_dl Před 3 lety +4

      @@GeekClimber I think you should try higher girth and longer parallettes, it's so much easier than on the ground. You have less room to move your center of gravity but you can use so much more force, plus it's easier to use the rest of the body to balance since gripping gives you huge stability. I think it's just different techniques and being used to the ground made it really hard
