The writers probably thought a super smart science guy becoming a superhero with his own creation was already done to death already. Hank has a lot of similarities to Tony Stark as well. However Doctor Strange and Tony Stark are practically the same person. So idk.
What's funny is that had Ant-Man actually came into fruition in the 80s, Michael Douglas was actually going to be cast as Hank Pym. Still worked out 40+ years later.
This version of Hank Pym is a bit like Al Pratt aka Atom in dc comics or AtomSmasher in the dceu as both of them were once superheroes and a member of a group such as S.H.I.E.L.D. or the justice society and both of them were eventually succeeded by younger heroes who took up their mantles and they both had at least one child who also became superheroes and took on their fathers legacy.
Would love a 6 episode Disney+ show of Hank Pym’s Ant-Man and Janet Van Dynes (Wasp) adventure where they team up to take down D tier villains like Egghead and Whirlwind
Seriously how can you have a 3 minute montage and not show Hank punching Darren Cross in the face? Darren's reaction afterward is what made the moment so iconic as well as hilarioius.

if this was done while he was in his youth, I'd say Mike would make a Perfect Hank Pym if they focused on him during his younger days as Ant Man. As Old Man Hank? I swear he stole it. Rudd himself was very good but the way he played the dark untrusting but generous hearted old man? Douglas was perfect for the role
