What an absolute lovely fella Colin is, every success mate - will definitely call in for a beer 🍺 or three when I’m back at the beginning of September 🙏😊🇬🇧
Please do
I really like the new multi camera setup. Adds a nice professional touch to the video. Great interview too.
Thanks.mate that's Bo who is editing
Brave man opening a bar at the moment, best of luck, hope it goes well for him. I’ll make a point of popping in for a beer.
Cheers mate
Very brave when do many been for sale now
heart warming chat~ I will visit this week I will, thanks Trevor😊
Please do!
Nice to see that you still there and bar is going well good luck for the future 👍👍👍
Cheers
Nice to see Colin on your channel, I visited his bar a few times last year. A really nice and positive thinking fellow. The staff problem already existed at that time and unfortunately affects almost all establishments. Pattaya will continue to attract many adventure-seeking people. What probably most people here don't want to hear - the current price level must probably increase, so that the desired service providers want to work again in sufficient numbers and with earlier enthusiasm. Why do I think that? - the above-average paying Agogos and Bars are packed with ladies.
Thanks mate
Great bar.very chilled atmosphere. Colin a great lad.see you again asap.
Indeed
Blast from the past The Odd Spot Birmingham City center. Happy days. Thanks guys great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
I own a restaurant in central Thailand and work it with my wife. Nothing negative to say about it ,all good. Best of luck with your new business, just give it time ,all will be good mate 👍
Thanks for sharing
Hey Trev, been here now for 3 weeks I must say it is a much better than what I thought .
Must say i like what you done with your bar great spot , not sure how much time you spend in there i will try again.
Thanks mate and sorry am away right now
Good talk/Interview. I always learn something.
Thanks mate

Cheers mate
Tuesday podium challenge ✅️ Phew! Had to set the alarm after yesterday's poor showing 😀
You got this! BOSH!
Good luck and all the best Colin , will pop in for a beer soon.
Cheers mate have a great time
We were saying yesterday these kinds of bar's where you can just chill and not be hassled are missing in Bangkok, it's hard to find a bar you can just relax in
Indeed mate
Because the rents are higher in Bangkok. There is more pressure. Just like walking street.
Soi 8 my first trip to thailand in 2004 I stayed at Eastiny Place. So much fun on soi 8.
Thanks for sharing
Great video, owner nice guy, I wish him the best luck opening a bar in September. Loved your bit on Kingston my home town, especially the story of the fighting cocks, still there with loud music
Haha brilliant mate
Remember Daz (everything Pattaya) following this bar when he first purchased it through to renovation. Seemed like his missus was running the show.
Great chat and a lovely fella. May want to change the opening times on the board outside as it has said 0900 for some time and I often walk past to see how it’s doing and it’s never been open
Colin is a nice guy for sure
Sorry when cannot open until 2.00pm now because of staff shortage. But thanks for calling by.
You kept me going aswell in covid I'll be calling in the odd spot in June with my family and friends
Thanks mate
Another very interesting interview. As others have said, Colin strikes me as a very nice guy. I can't believe he still has any hair left with staff just disappearing!
Glad you enjoyed it
Yes the hair is disappearing just about hanging on to it. Lol
just purchased my plane ticket for November. will be my first time, cant wait!
Have fun!
You’ll be addicted! Prepare to think about nothing else, only Thailand!
@@keithy507 I can't wait pal, super excited but nervous at the same time, especially going on my own. Whole new adventure for me
Wow, I was born in Fulham, but parents moved to live on the Kingston bypass (A3) between Tolworth and New Malden. So the 156, 131, 72, 281 etc buses all ring a bell plus the Green Line for posh people. Went to Southborough Boys school in Hook, which in those days was as rough as fck! Hence got expelled at 15! Very familiar with that part of SW London, as a child I was taken to watch Tolworth Tower being built, plus got involved with pirate radio of the time like Radio Jackie etc. Small world...but wouldn't want to paint it.
hahaha brilliant mate, fond memories
No time off running a bar if you want it to work and not get ripped off. My grand parents and mum and dad had a pub stepney east end of London. Holidays were with my nan.
nice one
Good Luck! You can do it 🍻
Fingers crossed!
Excellent location next to Flipper Lodge. Will be there a month from today. See you then, Colin....
Nice one mate
Your welcome
just a bit of trivia trev i have driven the BENDEE BUSSES and they are so easy to drive because a rigid bus has a longer tray so it needs more room to maneuver, but a bendee is shorter ( the front section ) that means turning is smaller in comparison
Wow that's awesome
What a nice guy. I'll call in next time I'm over, probably April.
Cheers mate
Hope to see you
I hope to visit one day. And this will be the first bar I go to. Best of luck
Hope you get out soon mate and have a great time
would be mine too, what an affable fellow to have a natter and beer with ...........................
Cheers
enjoyed that Trev another place on my bucket list LOL
haha have a great time
Interesting video Trev not that any person who owns a bar is ever going to say there losing money. This guy seems honest stating he has several bad days and a few good. I've stoped preaching but would advice any person there is more money in profit working as a one man show in Thailand. Employing staff while cheap can become rather exspensive.
Yeah it's very tough right now
I have financed my Thai partner running a papaya salad stall, a women's clothing shop and event catering. All went tits up. The only successes growing mushrooms and rearing fish on family land
Hi Colin my deer i keep cheering of u 🙌🙌 i understand that
Thanks 👍
seems a sound bloke...will pop in in march when i'm back
and as for the windmill??? what a shout!!!!
Haha indeed
Bus 🚌 driver I know how he feels about public transport. Uni students are the worst 😫 great to see he made it to pattaya. And I want to go to his bar 🍸 soi 8
Haha true that
Cheers
Off licence Trev ,my ole man who passed away years ago(God bless him ) was stood at the bar and noticed me ,yep the hatch which was right in front of the bar and customers ,i shit myself because me and my mates literally went over the wall of the same pub and was claiming on the empty bottles 🤣🤣i never ever told him .Colin ,i wish you all the best mate 👍
Respect to ya ole man mate, as for the hatch, indeed lol
What a chilled guy and looks a lovely bar.
Indeed the way
I used to eat in the restaurant out back of The Sailor in Soi 8. (I think both bar and resto there are owned by an elderly German-speaking couple. Interestingly 'sailor' in German is 'Seemann' - a very appropriate word for Patters).
This really is a good location for the Odd Spot. Around the corner in Beach there used to be a very lively bar with half decent live music called We Are the World. Is that one still there?
I think the real risk in PTY is buying a bar in an arcade - it has been this for a while - even if it's in one of those lively arcades along Second or Bua Khao. A lot of bar owners in these complexes lose their investment. You need a gimmick to stay afloat.
Thanks for sharing mate
he needs to join the local pool comp were they go to a different bar each week , have a good night when at his place , but maybe some of those punters will come back in and support him . even having a darts night as well
Yeah fair shout
I would if I could get a team together Lol
Seems like a nice guy i will pop in the odd spot next month
Cheers Trevor
Your welcome
Please do!
Brilliant
Cheers
he has the ideal spot there as hes got the vacant bloke next-door so plenty of parking for darts and/or pool
yeah it's a good location
Another great interview and did he give A shoutout to the windmill bar?
hahaha indeed
Nice place and nice owner.
Agreed
il be back there in august and from b ham so i will call in for a few beers to say hi.
Have a nice time
As a fellow brummie, I rember the odd spot well, although we called it the hot spot, wish Colin all the best with his venture, and with his nice laid back manner am sure he will get many regular customers.......hope he ain't a blue nose 😉
Nice one

@@mikegray8776 hope to see you soon
Trev, just went to 3bz restaurant for breakfast burrito (excellent interview). Then was going to go to “the castle” for some punishment But then I remembered that I was married for almost 20 years-isn’t that punishment enough!!!! HA
Hahaha brilliant mate fair play
If you see some ugly mug in there ringin' the bell, it'll be yours truly... another great video, Trev!...
Lol cheers mate
It’s the same in Manila when I was there, no real loyalty from the employees. They will leave in a flash if someone pays them more. It’s all about that. “Who pays me the most?” So the poor owners who are trying to keep their business open has to go through all these insane fast turnovers. Like he said. Then it puts so much pressure on the owner because he has to try and serve any customers. Or he loses the business. It’s a huge Catch-22. Why it’s so difficult to own a bar besides some employees ripping you off too. That does happen too. I was told. I know a guy (foreigner) who owned four bars in Manila and he would tell me these horror stories. It takes a lot of tenacity, time, patience and money. I really congratulate though how this guy drove a bus for so long! That too takes a lot of tenacity! Patience! Cheers!
Gotcha mate
Most people even in the west work for money
Just watched a video from a Aussie called palmy, his partner ran off with all his money and took his bar and renamed it.
Yeah it's not good
he still has his Brummie accent, maybe you were confusing Brummie with Black Country ? it`s an easy thing to do 😉😂
I remember the Odd Spot in Brum, never went in myself because there were other pubs around that used to open all day 😉
Didn't notice a twang lol
Las Vegas tried to change to a family destination and it failed miserably. Didn't last long before it went back to an adult playground.
Gotcha mate
Cheers
nice one
Alright Trev, a bit shocked when I called in this bar today, 21st of February, at 5pm.No one in bar and 120 baht for a single Sangsom coke. You don't pay those prices in a Go Go bar.
Wow!!! Sorry mate
Thanks for your feed back, I will take a look at the pricing
We used to have a substitute bus driver in high school who liked to drink.Bottle of whiskey under the seat I have lots of stories about him. 😂 But he wasn't exactly a random dude. We'll he WAS a random dude who would call my dad up in the middle of the night because my dad was a radio DJ. After he invited us to his house for dinner, he was no longer a random dude. Couple of years later he ended up driving us on some band trips. No IDEA how that guy kept his job.
Wow
@@Buzzinpattaya Daemeon has a story for everything. 😂
To me, and that's only me. I find the Bars in Pattaya very narrow and small, and a little clostrafobic. Collen is a gentleman and a fine owner and I wish him all the best.
Gotcha
it's the 'one unit' bar types that's common due to how the buildings are set up. But to be honest, even two unit bars are not necessary popular so it's not only the size that matters. I think well set up tables for people watching are important, as are other things like service, location and prices.
Omg Trevor you are a gooner yes get in there hey Brighton FC done well anyway I hope to see you in a few weeks I just to wait for my passport then I am coming out
Haha all good mate
Hi at this time I came down to see the bar after looking at your CZcams channel, well I been here for 15 mins , not said anything to me at all only 3 customers in!!!!and the beer is 85 !!! That's more than the other pubs!!! If he needs more customers he needs to get more involved with customers!!!! But this is only my opinion,
Sorry for this mate
@Sarah Peelin hi I never been to that bar🙄
I don't Leese my name to anyone, the Buzzin Bar is as you said a crappy open bar, but its a meeting point, every day we have a promo between 6pm and 8pm and despite being shite we get a good crowd in. Peter says I didn't say heloo, all I can say is EVERY time I go to the bar I greet everyone so I am guessing I wasn't there. As for 85B beers, come between 6pm and 8pm and all bars are 39B is that cheap enough for you?
Your welcome anytime Peter
Thanks Trev, realy enjoy listening to these types of stories! Speaking of stories, I don't care what your wife says about you, I think you're a nice guy!!! heheheh JK, Thanks much, stay safe and healthy!
hahahaha BOSH!
I used to love the Honey Pot back in 2011 on Soi 4 I think
Cheers mate
Just back from Pattaya 2weeks there just small bars ever where no one in most of them only staff don't know how they survive the sums don't add up it seems that everyone that opens a bar has never pulled a pint in there life no experience in bar work heard staying years ago never forgot it never put money into something u no noting about its doomed to fail
@@michaelcallan4473 where are the good Mongering bars.......coming back to Pattaya first time since 2015......any good haunts...?

Curions, what is the average lease term for a Bar. 1,2,3, in Pattaya.
Normally 3
I knew he was going to say Windmill..Nice bloke, will pop by both your bars in March

Me too 🍺🦘
New Windmill was great, even better than the old. They kept 'the spirit' of the bar :)
I’ve owned a bar in Hanoi, Vietnam for over 5 years. Hasn’t been the same since COVID obviously…hoping the next couple of years will improve 👍
Wish you all the best
They only need to change the visas back to normal . Damn i miss the place alot tay ho and old qtr especially
that gezza gone find out when she runs off with his bar lol
Lol
hi trev good luck to eny one who buys a bar

When these guys open up their bars, do they usually take on a mortgage or pay cash for everything?
What is a good business to open there? or good investment to make there? What are the interest rates in bank accounts there?
Cash
@@argonaut816 In USA I get 5% in money market accts. Thanks
If a bank was lending money against businesses in Pattaya, they wouldn't be around for long....
@@pg.travels that makes sense. So, is there a black market for mafia style loans there?
@@pauljensen4773 Not that I know of.
Most people invest their own cash or take out unsecured loans from their home countries.
It doesn't always go wrong, the horror stories are more interesting so they are the ones to get shared more!
I personally know a good few people that run successful businesses here but they wouldn't really be fun CZcams stories so never get told lol
2 days and I fly. 😁😁.

On the map it seems "the odd spot" is not there? Or is google maps so very slow? As that - with street view - still shows the old logo of "oh! la. la."! Oh and BTW the FB page of that old bar also still exists! 😂

The girls don’t give notice because if they don’t start elsewhere immediately , they will not be hired. Other bars are short just like yours. Just saying .

If you open a bar you need food which is a better draw.
Gotcha mate
I would agree with that... especially if the dishes that they offer are better than average
Ow bin Ya Colin ?
Is this same like morse code mate lol
Seems a decent guy down to earth 🌎 I just don't know whether soi 8 or 7 will ever be near to what they were pre covid. I am here at present and walking down these two sois is depressing they are both pretty much dead, and the girls are average at best. Walking Street seems to be tops along with soi 6.
fair one mate
I agree 7 and 8 need to get better but do not think 7 and 8 are depressing, new bars are opening and we all are trying are best.
@colin summerfield depressing if you have experienced them in their heydays of the mid to late 2000s. Probably not if you're a newbie just experiencing them for the first time 🙂
@@dubsdolby9437 I agree it may never return to them days, but I can remember just before covid 2019 both 7 and 8 where dead and depressing, and are doing better now than before. But I understand it as to get better.
i actually thought soi 7 and soi 8 were the best types of streets I used to like in pattaya. Small and quaint. My first trip to thailand was in 2004 and I stayed at Eastiny Place on soi 8. Loved it. not the same any more, but time will tell

sadly for him the odds are stacked against him. Some bars do turn a profit, but that does not mean they return enough money to make one a comfortable living
