Why didn’t anyone hire this dubbing team to handle every Kung Fu movie that came out in the 1970s!? There’s actual ACTING involved here and the voices fit the characters like a glove.

I wonder how close the English dubbing is to the original Japanese dialogue. The writers managed to combine the weighty and spiritual with the absurd and risible without mockery or disrespect. Quite a feat. He never leaves Buddha's hand.. Despite believing he'd traveled to the end of the world.. ( "Do you know me?" .. "Everything is within this and this is within everything".... "Monkey, in all that is. Everything has it's situation" ) It's been some time since I've seen this! The dialogue was brilliantly written though. When Buddah banishes and traps him in a mountain at the end of the episode to impress lessons of patience upon him he turns the sentiments of Buddah on their head humorously , shouting out in protest "You're doing it to yourself SO YOU SAY!! "IT IS YOU who is stuck in here!!"
All Monkey had to say is "I can't leave your hand for your hand and the Universe are one and neither has no end or beginning." And he would have ruled heaven.
Nooo. why did you cut it short before the ending ? the 5 pillars at the end of the universe.., he writes his name on one of the pillars and fly's back to Buddha only to have buddha show him her hand with his name written on one of her fingers.. Missed all the deep stuff as a kid, but watching it back on the dvd collection.. Some deep stuff in this :)
It's marvellously allegorical and symbolic whilst dressed in simple clothes. Monkey himself is uncontrolled thought or mind which is born from chaos. Only through tripitaka (prayer and meditation) can mind be controlled.
As I remember it, Buddha use to appear as woman in order to seem more kind & less intimidating to mortals. The Goddess of Compassion (I forget how to spell her name) use to appear as a man so she wouldn't appear weak or an easy target, despite having a bodyguard.
Great memories, I so wanted his staff, my mothers broom wasn't quite the same, though the settee made a good cloud substitute for flying, assuming the dog wasn't sat on it....
This was my favorite Monkey episode ever. Shame the next part isn't shown, after monkey graffitis the five pillars and thinks he is now the great sage Buddha holds up his/her hand and shows him the graffiti - he has not even escaped from Buddhas hand!

I was 5 years old when I first saw this and I don't know why it striked me so hard when I saw that monkey didn't pass the hand of Buda.

I think that was the goddess Guanyin who sometimes chose to appear in her male aspect when travelling
