- Knot tying video tutorial. Learn how to make a double figure eight loop. Easy step by step instructions in this guide.
The double figure eight loop is knot number 1085 in the Ashley book of knots. It is used in climbing and industrial rope access to clip into anchors.
Uses: anchoring knot, improvised seat, foot loops
Advantages: Stable and secure knot
Disadvantages: Uses a lot of rope. Bulky knot.

7 years old and still very helpful. Just started route setting and was struggling hard because each person had a different way of doing this. Your way is the easiest and clearest that ive been shown. Thank you!
Excellent video, thanks for sharing! Good on you for emphasizing that the bunny ear part has to end up ON TOP and NOT at the bottom of those 2 lines. I've heard it's very important because it can be dangerous at the bottom with the way that it affects the knot and moves things around. Thanks for sharing the great refresher!
Only person I have seen explain the importance of placing the strand at the top of the knot... about time somebody dressed it properly!! Nice work ;)
Yes and this is extremely important, otherwise when one anchor point breaks, that loop will disappear and the rope can get burned.
Very good explanation - step by step with all details.
Thanks ❤
Thanks for the video and great explanation! I do industrial SPRAT and had to rig something today and really needed this but had to use some alpine butterfly's instead.
THANKS! I couldn't remember exactly how to do this knot.
Great succinct demonstration. Got it down pat. Thanks!
Great tutorial! Every caver should know how to tie this!
Thank you for this! Best one I found on the bunny ears
I always tie mine with triple loop at bottom. Thanks for this video
Straightforward and easy nice
also good explaining how to master tying it much appreciated
I really enjoy your knot videos. Very well done and easy to follow. Thanks for sharing!
I have found that this and the Spanish Bowline the loops slip. In a rescue video it was mentioned that a victim must grab BOTH loops or put both feet into the loops.
I've been following your videos for a year now and they are the BEST
EXCELLANT. That is toooo Cool.thanks for teaching
Interesting knot, thanks!
Nice explanation. Also when the loop is accidentally put to the bottom of the knot instead of the top, both anchor loops can relatively easily slide so in case one anchor point gets broken accidentally, that loop will be completely shrink under the load and the second loop (in the good anchor point) will be prolonged. This might damage or melt down the rope heavily in the extreme case.
nice job !!!
Nice one dude. Simple and easy to follow.
Very helpful video, thanks for posting. Thanks for keeping it short and sweet.
Appreciate the extra tip about properly dressing the knot.
As some climbers like to say, "A not neat knot need not be knotted."
If you cant tie a knot tie alot
Excellent!
Thank you for sharing your expertise in knot tying. What type of rope are you using in this video? I am having a difficult time finding the right rope in learning knot typing. Thsnks
Tyvm brother 🙏🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙💙
Thank you
Nice explanation why not to put it on the bottom. Makes sense
my rope access teacher says it is better at the top so you can pull on it easy to make both ears exactly even
*for expert use only
thank you.
you're the first person, on CZcams, that far I've seen to tie a figure 8/ bunny's ears and dress the knot properly. Frustrating to see people teach "how to" when they do not dress the knot properly. A badly dressed knot compromises the integrity of said knot
That's very true about properly dressing a knot. This is the first I've heard of dressing the knot this way, despite knowing the knot very well. Never realised I was doing it wrong. The same can be said for the importance of properly tightening a knot too, in many cases. As an example, they say a properly dressed and tightened Figure 8 bend does not need stopping.
