Longline Fishing From Shore With The Bullet Fishing Sonar Autopilot Kontiki

Kaleb from ‪@AdventurewithKZ‬ fishing with Graeme from Bullet Fishing and Nathan from ‪@paulsfishingsystems‬ using the 54lb thrust Bullet Autopilot Fishing Kontiki With Sonar at Uretiti Beach, Northland, NZ. This is one of New Zealand's more popular East Coast landbased fishing spots for kitefishing, drone fishing, and electric kontiki torpedo fishing.
These fishing torpedoes have a built in sonar, that when it senses fish of a preset size or bigger, in a density large enough (such as a shoal of fish) it will carry on for 200m, then stop so your baited hooks are right amongst the fish.
The Bullet Kontikis in this video both also have autopilot, which utilises a similar system to what ships use to keep them on course. The autopilot runs from a compass direction, and a rudder on the front of the kontiki keeps it going in the right direction.
Bullet fishing kontikis also have an Auto Start function, which allows all setting to be done before heading to the waters edge. The motor is initiated by a sensor that is activated when it gets sufficiently wet, meaning you just throw the kontiki in the water and it will automatically start! All Bullet Kontikis now come with 2 x 12v 18.2ah Lithium batteries (not 10ah as said in the video), and a 12v 9ah lead acid battery to keep the balance right.
Two winches were used in this video. On the Sonar Kontiki, a Bullet Fishing Winch was used. These have a strong, fully welded drum, and are driven by a marinised 200w 4-pole motor. These winches are the best value kontiki winch on the market.
The standard Autopilot kontiki was run using one of our PFS Kite and Kontiki winches, which have a 230w motor with a planetary drive gearbox. These winches house the motor inside the spool to reduce overall size, protect the motor, and it enables a larger core diameter to give a more constant wind speed. These are the most robust kontiki winches on the market. See below for links to both.

While the kontikis are soaking, Kaleb throws surf casts a large break out sinker in the hopes of getting a livebait to use with his slidebait clip. It is a rare day that Kz doesn't get anything surfcasting, but the downtime between kontiki sets didn't allow for much.
