    I can't stop watching this particular video of yours! Great job! Very enlightening! If I wasn't living so far away from you I would surely order on of your longlines or two. Intelligence and craft , as well as a noble and environmentally aware mind such as yours must be rewarded. Alas we're too far away so I'll try building one myself, following your advices -with a couple of slight adjustments to the waters where I live. Many warm greetings from Greece!

    Great video sir and a great product.
    I live in Palm Beach Florida USA. I can see where that rig would be super for bottom fish.
    I'd like to set 3-5 25 hook sets,haul them back and call it a day!!!
    I'll be saving my pennies for one of those reels,the rest I can rig on my own.
    Thank you again Mr.Paul for a great idea!

    @belleviewable Any hook needs to be forcefully set to ensure the barb penetrates below the skin of the fishes mouth. The system works because the fish is unaware of the trace being connected and takes it into it's mouth. As it swims away the set occurs very positively when the clip hits the stopper.

    Awesome Vid, though I've one question: You say that the fish can run along the mainline till it hits a stopper, which sets the hook, but arn't circle hooks supposed to work best without a sharp tug to set them, which could pull the hook from the fish's mouth? Is that theory wrong?Because that is an impressive catch on the second line. Josh

    I use this method on a rig I made myself. Works well. One comment though after years of using. There is potential for getting yourself into trouble trying to position the boat when retrieving as you have to be perfectly in line with the grapple down as you can't pull the line to you and you can't run over it. Works way better if you pull the downwind line and grapple and clip the float off on the backbone so that end is floating. Go upwind and do the same and as soon as it is up motor off at a right angle so you don't drift on the downwind float. Once you have done that you can just drift and the backbone comes with you with no stress. Way easier. You just have to run a clip system between your droppers and backbone. Easy to do and I get two lots of 25 hook backbones and droppers on the same reel. If you do this you just have to put the first dropper line in a bucket, and then wind it on last (you'll work it out).

      @paulsfishingsystems  Před 5 lety

      Yes, I do the same if the wind is strong and it works well. In light winds over sandy areas it is unnecessary.

    From Samos Greece well done enjoyed the video, will use it here also , wee normally use a basket with 100 up to 150 hooks for tuna and sword fish,with the basket it's very dangerous cause your putting the hooks in the basket and when you get a big fish on at the end the fish dives ,and the hooks stark flying out and God help you if 1 hook grabs you, it almost happened to me. From now on iam making a reel and will disconnect the hooks as they come in the boat . Thanks again for the good information Andreas.

    Hi paul.. can you tell me what kind of rope or nylon is best for longline..for the mainline..thanks

  • @CoolStreamT
    @CoolStreamT Před 7 lety

    Here is what I think. If fish swallows the hook with the floating beats, it cannot easily be hooked, because when fish eventually spit the float, at that moment hooks will be out to. That's because beats diameter is many times bigger than thickness of the shank of the hook. The unique hook shape causes the hook to slide towards the point of resistance and embed itself in the jaw or in the corner of the fish’s mouth if of course the fish mouth is close. So the fish opens the mouth to spit the ball shape beats and hooks follow beads without any problem especially if the plane of the hook is positioned horizontally. I mean if the shape of the floats will be not round but flat, it will help to hook the fish better. Other words, if you not let the fish open the mouth too much, it will be hooked better. You know what I mean. Maybe technically its not easy to make flat shape floats and let them last longer. But that's just a technical problem.

Conventional circle hooks do gut hook fish, particularly on set lines although they don't gut hook as many as Octopus of O'Shaunessy, J type hooks. This system is far less dangerous than any system that has hooks on snoods permanently fixed to the mainline. If this gear is snagged on the bottom line can easily be fed out very quickly with no danger of anyone getting a hook in them. This is not so with the systems you are advocating. Hooks cannot tangle when setting and get dragged over the side in big dangerous mess of line, snoods and and hooks either, and this certainly happens with the systems you suggest.
