- Stan Laurel, Mr. Clean and The Puppets. Taken from the Bonus-Disc of "Laurel and Hardy: Their Lives And Magic".
The international documentary is presenting - besides a lot of funny clips from the best Laurel & Hardy movies - a look behind the scenes and never before published color footage of Stan & Babe and a lot of private photographs, recently discovered archive footage of Laurel & Hardy, rare or unpublished film stills, posters etc.
The documentary was shot on location in the USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, Austria, Netherlands and Germany.
The film is presenting interviews with Laurel & Hardy experts like Hal Roach, Lucille Hardy-Price, Richard W. Bann, Tyler St. Mark, Bart Williams, Chuck McCann and Jim MacGeorge, Phillis Coates, Mark Greenhow or Jean Darling and friends of Stan & Babe like Booth Colman, Jerry Lewis or Marcel Marceau.
Even Stan Laurels daughter Lois Laurel Hawes has given the author an exclusive interview. That way the documentary is telling very emotionally the story of the worldwide most beloved comedy team: the story of THEIR LIVES AND MAGIC.
This documentary was broadcasted with a running time of 90 minutes very successfully in Germany and France on tv at the beginning of the year at prime time and got a very positive feedback.
Now the author is presenting his 15 minutes longer Director´s Cut as well as 70 minutes of unpublished bonus features.

His smile never changed!
Stan and Ollie were legends ❤
Bless him, if only those with inflated ego's & much less talent these days were as humble as this beautiful gentleman. RIP Stan, what a legacy you both left us all.
TRUE END BEAUTIFUL WORDS REST IN PEACE. STAN🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️👍👍😢🙏🙏🙏🙏👻👻👻👻
"If anyone at my funeral has a long face, I'll never speak to him again."
--Stan Laurel, 1890-1965
God, this is so adorable. Stan lived humbly during the last years. They didn't get rich just because they were geniuses together. Sometimes tourists came by his 2 bedroom appartment and he would just let them in, get them coffee and tell his stories about the times hen he was with Babe. He was a sweet man. And a genius. And those things very rarely go together.
Mr Stan Laurel was a gentleman.
@Belvidere Worthington I still smile and laugh out loud when I see the both of them. For me the best comical actors ever.
ALSO---I've read ,from different sources that his telephone number was in the local book. And people often phoned him, not believing it possible, for such a famous man to make himself so available. If only I had known that.
But with these two they surely did. What a wonderful thing it was they gave us, happy funny times watching and laughing.
@@MrDaiseymay - That is true, he did have it in the phone book, it is how Dick Van Dyke got friendly with him. He would also personally respond to all of his fan mail. Some of his responses to fans, just before he died, had him apologising for his letter being short as he had not been too well.
What a smile this legend had. Seemed like a kind soul.
The love I have for this man is immense. I was overjoyed when I discovered he'd played in my hometown when he was a young man. And then later in life, he played a local theatre and frequented a pub I have been in many times. He died before I was born but his memory, and Ollie's, will live on forever.
Good& forever in memory
I was 8 months old when he died but as a toddler I was watching laurel and hardy reruns I still love to watch them as well as the 3 stooges and abbot and Costello so does my nonverbal autistic son Mikey who is 30
Seeing his smile makes your heart warm. Rest in heaven.
The greatest comedy actor ever to come out of England, and the creative force behind the greatest and most iconic comedy duo ever to walk the planet. Everything about them: timing, mannerisms, child-like behaviour, the love they had for each other, the snippets of dialogue... absolute perfection.
So you like him better than Chaplin?
Chaplin first
I love Chaplin, have every one of his films, but Stan Laurel, as Buster Keaton said, was 'the funniest', and I certainly find Stan and Ollie funnier. As do many people. Less art and pathos, true, but much funnier.
Even at that age he still had it.
Real genuine talent never fades.
oh bless his soul! laurel and his beautiful smile
Heena Artist Me ed
*I love that smile❤*
Amazing - a split second after seeing his face, you instantly know its Stan. Its all there - the broad grin, the confused look, the double-take....it just has "Laurel & Hardy" written all over it.
What a legend, without him and Oliver my life would not be the same.
Very happy to see this short footage that I've never seen before. Laurel and Hardy have helped me combat my PTSD and chronic depression. Thank you Ollie and Stan, you are my heroes. R.I.P.
I have PTSD also. I also watch clips like this to reinforce a focus on some things that surpass the pain. Bless Mr. Laurel.
I suffer chronic depression myself and Stan and Ollie always ease my pain.
Same here, sending love to all of you
One of the sweetest smiles ever.God rest his beautiful soul.
Two men make me laugh the most in my life. They are Laurel and Hardy
they r westerners who were boundaryless in their love of people and full of joy. Rare souls.
💖💖💖💖🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💞💞💞
As Kurt Vonnegut said... "Two Angels of my time". The best comic performer ever filmed. So much happiness to so many people. Thank goodness there isn't a whiff of anything nasty about his or Oliver Hardy's life either. Just a pair of professional men who grew to respect and love each other through hard work.
Well said! Two extremely talented and beautiful souls. Sadly missed.
A true legend and most of all a gentleman and gentle-man.
A genius! It's impossible not to smile whenever I see Stan and Ollie :) .
I was born in 1965 and from the age of five I was hooked on these two wonderful gentleman.
And I still watch them now.
I don't know why they don't put them back on children's tv today.
All innocent good fun and a great family viewing experience for parents and children to watch.
Not films can do that
No other films offer that
I can't believe that I am only a few miles away from the theatre where Laurel and Hardy played their final performance ever. The Olympia theatre in Dublin Ireland, where I have been many times before. It's crazy. I am humbled for such everlasting legends to have performed here. Colin from Dublin Ireland. 😁
what a sweet, charming man! There will never be another like him!
Thank you Stan.
Absolute legends . I wish I could have gone back in time and met them. Their movies are almost 100 years old and absolutely hilarious. Watching them when I'm down or poorly is the best medicine.. The world is a sadder place without them. Thanks for laughs boys. RIP.
So struck by how very down to earth he is ALWAYS reported to be. Was determined to personally reply to all the cards and letters he go and talk with people who would stop him when he was out and about (can you imagine how many times he must have had to stop what he was trying to do!).
laurel and Hardy will live on in our hearts forever 😊
Thank you Stan for the years of entertainment you and Oliver gave us.
Real name, Arthur Stanley Jefferson. He was Charlie Chaplin's understudy in vaudeville and when they toured the US, Chaplin stayed. Stan came a few years later. Stan revered Chaplin as "the greatest". In his later years he was surprisingly approachable, keeping his phone number in the directory, welcoming visitors, and responding to fan mail personally.
What a genius and from what I've heard, a gentleman. To think that in his later life, he had his number in the phonebook and would answer to fans calls.
What a beautiful man who was truly sent to Earth to make us laugh. I like to think that Ollie and Stan are somewhere at a different cosmic address still raising laughs.
I never met them yet miss them. They both have given me so much laughter over the years. Thank you L & H and James Finlayson!
Laurel & Hardy - the funniest ever double act, that lifts me when I'm down, for which one is the serious one, and which one is the clown. No matter what's the answer, they were so great together, And their silly antics, will live with us Forever.
What a precious man. God loves Laurel and Hardy and so do I.
You can't help but like that man, Stan Laurel!
What a humble comedy genius he was, now almost 60 years since he left us, his legacy has grown up exponentially. Now he is considered (by most of the people around the world) the best of the classic comedians.
The world would have been poorer if they had not appeared. They spread smiles across the world and generations!!
Well, they did not "appeared" Hal Roach created the duo! But I agree, I simply can not imagine the world without them. : )
When mentioning his Oscar to friends, Stan never referred to it as “my Oscar.” He always referred to it - besides “Mr Clean” - as “our Oscar” because he knew the award was for both him and Babe. ❤
He never appeared in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" because he did not want to appear without Oliver Hardy (Who died in 1957).
I heard another reason was because he thought people would be disappointed to see him old. I don't know if that's true or not, since quite a few comedians in IAMMMMW were old.
Explorer - not least Buster Keaton, who replaced him in the role.
@@ExplorerDS6789 both reasons were true
No..Mr.Jack Benny replaced Stan..in the scene that he was slated to do..with Mr.Berle,Terry Thomas,Dorothy Provine..and Ms.Merman.
@@kevinbutler8824 Yes, Stan was supposed to pull up in a model T. The long shots were already filmed with a double. When Stan decided against it, they replaced him with Jack Benny. That's why Jack is wearing a derby, to match the long shots meant for Stan.
Stan Laurel must be one of the most deserving Oscar winners ever.
Oliver Hardy deserved an Oscar just as much as Stan did. If only the Academy hadn’t been stupid enough to wait until after Oliver had already died to offer the award that they BOTH had earned so completely.
Such a lovely genuine man with no airs and graces. We will not see his type again. Thank you Stan for all the fun and laughter. God Bless you, Always.
Sweet portrait of a comic legend.
How can your eyes tear and laugh at the same time?! .. Stan Laurel with attractive childish smile and a sweet cheerful spirit .. Who saw the shows of Laurel and Hardy and did not love them?
Attending Stan Laurel's funeral Buster Keaton said : "Chaplin wasn't funny & I wasn't funny but HE was funny (meaning Laurel)".
Such a charming gentleman! His kind of humour is sadly missed!
It's fairly hard to comprehend how 4 people disliked this video... They're entitled to their opinions, sure, but come on.. It's rare footage of a comic legend, what exactly did you want?
Egalitarian neo-marxists who get triggered by someone rising above mediocrity and enjoying personal success.
You cannot understand why people do not like a CZcams clip? I cannot understand you not understanding it. It is simply that they did not like it. Some people did not like Laurel and Hardy. Some people loved them but found this clip boring.
@@yacovlk7924 The clip was far from boring; it was nice to see how intensely blue Stan's eyes were. It was also nice to see Stan slightly out of character and at home. Personally I think the people who clicked 'Dislike' for such a video are nerds.
@@lillymay3632 Why do you expect everyone to like a video simply because you liked it?
@@yacovlk7924 Because I just do.
I love that pantomime of Stan polishing his"Mr.Clean"Oscar and his finger point and that beloved "Fig Bar"smile.
He is born to make people laugh. His face expression is beautiful.
One of two masters of comedy
I remember that this clip was shown on the Academy Awards TV broadcast when Stan was awarded the honorary Oscar.
Just now when these videos were listed I recalled seeing Stan in his late years in that clip.
....Stan kindly responded to all his fanmail, and one day he went to a local stationary shop to buy more ink, paper etc. There was a chap in the shop, who 'recognised' him ; ' Hey, ain't you that guy from the old movies....er...er...what's your name fella?'
'Oliver Hardy!' Stan replied...a little bit annoyed.
'Yeah that's right - what happened to the other guy?'
....' He went barmy!' said Stan.
That’s really poignant, I think, as he was implying that he felt he went barmy with grief after Oliver’s death. He kept on writing Laurel & Hardy skits even after losing his partner and knowing they could never perform again, so in a way, a part of him never left the denial stage. 😢
Great Movie Legend`` !!! Forever STAN LAUREL 1890 - 1965
i piu.grandi
one of my all time heroes love him.
A beautiful soul, if you look into those blue eyes you can tell he never lost that charm, magic and sparkle. Still had the eyes of a young man.
what a gentleman gone forever
As the movie points out, for the last eight years of his life after Oliver died Stan wrote material for Laurel and Hardy.
Great actor and excellent man! :)
That was genuinely wonderful - and sad, he is not here anymore. Thanks, it was wonderful.
Thank God for these guys 😍
I always loved Stan and Ollie. Seen a fair number of interviews and read a lot and apparently they were both top gents and lovely people on and off screen. They tried to answer all fan mail personally and were deeply touched by fans best wishes.
I thought they were the best comedy duo act ever they were hilarious when I'm depressed I definitely watch their films I feel alot better after watching them
He looks so nice
Awwwww RIP a wonderful man and hardy. xxx
Priceless footage of a comedy legend and one part of a truly iconic duo. Watching this most certainly brought me to tears, I wish I could have given him the biggest hug! His smile at the end was beautiful 😘😘.
I forgot how much I loved watching these two on Saturday afternoon.
.R.I.P.(1890-1965)WONDERFUL COMIC ACTOR AND HUMAN BEING....
Stan Laurel was so precious..
His smile could warm any heart and soul..he brought me through some sad and hard times I had as a child growing up in a very disfuntional family! Thank God for both of them to this world! Laughter heals our souls!..A merry heart doeth good like a medicine!
Legend :)
Words cannot express my love and admiration for the GREATEST comedy duo of all time!
The world, nay the UNIVERSE, will NEVER see their like again!
A true humble gentle-man! Will we ever see his like in show business again? My grand-dad was born in the same town as Stan...Ulverston in north west England.
Stan had such a beautiful clowns face, and in old age not a line of regret- though as with all of us he must have had at least a few. Nice touch with the puppets because he really was the brains behind L&H, whilst taking nothing away from the equally wonderful Ollie.
He deserves a million Oscars.
A true professional, gentleman and talented actor. If only people were more like him today!
i feel like crying, this great man and his faithful and brilliant partner hardy were my childhood one time i poured milk in my ear to re-create a scene from one of their films. Now that i'm about to go into adulthood they are still a large part of my life, i've even gotten into the habit oh fiddling with my hair like laurel and if i wear a tie i twiddle with it like hardy.
What a gentle soul. Can you imagine living in this apartment in Santa Monica? Apartment #203. Too bad we don't have actors/comedians like Stan and Ollie around today.
A warm tribute to Stan Laurel sadly no longer around. He was such joy by all. [1890-1965]
this is the MAN or better they are the MENS who never never forget..they did the history of comic movie and they are officially the best comedy duo in history..let everyone see their movies especially to childrens..they must known who are stan laurel and oliver hardy..remenber there will be no one like them..
Authentic Gentleman...
Mystery of life: why give a thumbs down to a video of such a sweet and adorable man ?
Greetings from Italy.
how lovely was this man, always smiling and kind,
i rushed home from school to watch these funny pair, wonderful,
thanks for making me smile.
Just yesterday I was watching some of your short films, here on CZcams. You who have always made me laugh so much since I was a child with your gags. A big hello to Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy watching us from up there for your biggest comedy!
the tears are in my eyes, I loved Laurel and Hardy
I didnt know that clips like is was available, do you have more?
I hope those two new how much laughter and happiness they gave to the world. God bless stan and Ollie.
I will always love Laurel and Hardy. Timeless comedy.
Bless him. Miss you Stan! x
I remember Bob Hope awarding the Honorary Oscar to Stan Laurel in 1961 but Danny Kaye had to accept it on his behalf. Stan could not appear (ill health). But Stan received the SAG Lifetime Achievement award 3 years later. Stan, born in June 1890, passed away on February 23, 1965. Funny and sweet until the end. Often entertained his daughter between takes on the set.
Love watching this, so moving. One of my all time favorites. Love the character he played so well.
so great, thanks
São eternos...Merecem toda premiação do mundo
VIDA LONGA A STAN LAUREL & OLIVER HARDY
Stan and his pal Ollie will never be forgotten, as well as their supporting actors, Mae Busch etc.
Wow he still had that Incredible one of a kind smile
Just found this video. In 1961 my family and I were invited to his apartment in Santa Monica. My father was a big fan of there’s. It was a surprise for my dad that my mother and Mr. Laurel had set up. He was such a sweet man, talked a lot about the old days. Sadly, he was in a wheelchair and couldn’t get around much. I think meeting him was one of my dad’s special memories.
Have fond memory of watching Laurel and Hardy movies our neighbor got from the library (big reel). He would project them on a big wall in his backyard by the pool. My brother and I would sit with his friends by their pool on a summer's night and watch these movies as kids. True entertainment and bliss.
Thank you, he looked so kind
I replayed this video many times in order to see his candid smile again and again.
This is just great. A well deserved Oscar for the ultimate comic genius.
Awww him and Hardy were so adorable
Back in the 80s,laurel and Hardy was on BBC2. Me and other friends loved it. A kid. In my class told me that Stan Laurel was born in Britain. I was completely gobsmacked.
I love that smile 😊
Amazing Man . A true gent
He gave me AIDS
That famous smile.
Best actors ever: Stanley and Olly
he looks always friendly
