Honest Chris, That's just the nature of slapstick, similar to sitcoms it's usually to get a laugh at characters who innately incompetent or clumsy.
I think some of these comments can help you understand why people might find entertainment in this type of humor.

@@honestchris7472 Not at all. What was so brilliant was the dynamic of the pompous incompetent busybody and the well meaning, innocent idiot. They don't know they're funny and they don't know they're incompetent and that works today, exactly as it did all those years ago. Their characters are genuine (albeit cartoonish) reflections of real facets of the human character.

Entertainers don't need to be vulgar and crass to make people laugh! These guys are legends! You think anyone will be talking about Amy Schumer or Will Farrell in 100 years from now? Not a chance. Laurel said in a few interviews he and Hardy never saw each other that much socially outside of work hours until they were older and went on the tours of England. Hardy was content to let Stan run the show so he could go play golf and gamble. I understand why the writer threw in the argument, to create some kind of tension and release in the relationship to spice up the story. Should get them to do all the new material he wrote in a series and dedicate it to them they were a legendary double act it's sad that they didn't get to do all the stuff he wrote it would be good to see it performed like it was written for

My favorite is March of the Toy Soldiers which used to be shown maybe on CBS during the Christmas season in the fifties.and bought DVD and along with White Christmas watch this every year. It's the original Babes in Toyland, and it's funny and campy and not PC correct. Could not be made today! Wonderful pair of guys.

KNXT(KCBS)TV Ch.2 in Southern,Cal. reran their films..and so did WCBS TV Ch.2 in NYC..but? WCBS TV Ch.2 in NYC..only screened"Babes In Toyland"/"March Of The Wooden Soldiers" once on Tuesday Christmas Day,1956. WOR TV Ch.9 screened the film in 1959..For Many years..WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC reran this holiday film classic and it has since become..a holiday tradition for Ch.11 to air this movie during The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Kevin Butler not sure which station aired them as I grew up in Cleveland,Ohio but remember watching them a few times. They ran all the old movies then when TV began. I think we had a set back in 52 or 53 (I'm showing my age).

The film ‘Stan & Ollie’ is just a perfect slice of entertainment and the two central characters played by Reilly and Coogan are given a real run for their money by their respective wives performances trying to outdo one another. I recommend the film to anyone. Give yourself a break and go and enjoy a mini-masterpiece.

*It's such a shame that today's audience will never know that a performer can get laughs by doing a simple, straightforward comedy routine w/out cursing, vulgarity or bullying the way Laurel & Hardy did. Just good, clean, slapstick fun. Sadly, the era of Laurel & Hardy, The 3 Stooges, Martin & Lewis, Red Skelton & Kramden & Norton are long & forever gone.*

As written, I do not think Jebbie was in any way compiling the definitive list, but rather an example; simply setting the scene. I understood her / his point. It was the theme, the thought she / he is conveying, not Movie Comedy Teams 101. @@stolte95
