if you set the button ones mode to "switch" it will trigger it once when flipping down and again when flipping up so you can go, flip down, enter missile mode, flip up, leave missile mode. works great for me ;)

So your video is very helpful learning Virpil and its software. BUT to share back with you, you make things very complicated (which you may like). SC makes it easy to repurpose button then you are in certain mode. Another wards when you are in regular flight my "red" button is for Missile toggle. My "black" button is my "mining mode". When I'm in mining mode my "red" button is now my laser fire button as you cant get to missiles while in mining mode and without any Virpil shifting. This game based "shift" is in many parts of the game such as scanning. Many buttons do not have a purpose when your game is in a certain mode so unless your duplicating this functionality in Virpil's shift mode for coolness or fun, then more power to you.
Now I hear new software is coming out that will alter the LEDs when shifting. At that point I may consider complicating my life like yours :)

I’ve got a couple of Primes coming and this is very good to know. I had VKB’s a year ago and it was a pain to program. I can see that this is almost as complex, but I appreciate that you have thought through this and identified the pain points and workarounds. I’ll likely use the plus 40 method too.

Legend this software is so hard to get used to lol

Nice tip for using a consistent modifier (e.g., +40) for your virtual buttons!

Yeah, I never did get the inverted way to work. Though i had no issues with it being on in up state. I made that missles and made the two button pulls lock and fire.
Flipping it up to on position gives me guns and the ability to use 3-5 buttons.
With this video, i might try it again. I was able to do all red on missles.
Now, I've gota figured out how to light 2nd alpha constellation with Z extension to light up yellow when in middle (neutral) green when forward and blue in reverse.
Also, it has been a nightmare trying to get the joystick to function as a throttle. For some reason, absolute does not go backward in Star Citizen.

Got my first Alpha Prime arriving tomorrow so this will be super helpful - thank you

I was getting confused over the 'on' 'off' state of the button/lever 1/2 until I realised this vid is for the Alpha and I have an Alpha Prime which I think is different. As far as I can tell, the Prime registers "1" with the lever forward, "2" with it back, "3" when it touches (not pushes) the trigger, "4" once the trigger is pulled half way and "5" on the final, full pull of the trigger. This makes all of the other buttons +1 over the diagram for the Alpha, ending in "32". Incidentally, the thumb button clicks as "19" and turning it is "21" & "22". Can't find anything for "20".
The video is great in explaining it all though.

Nice tutorials, albeit a little lengthy at times, when you know the matter your dealing with ;) but your first video in this series was a nice reminder for me, that there's a option in the dropdown for logical button assignment.
And yeah it gets very confusing at times, dealing with logical vs. physical buttons in different shift states. Add LED programming (Throttle/Panels) to the mix to get a stroke, just kidding ...
Advantage is the multitude of possibilities you can do with this fine pieces of hardware.
In older software versions of the VPC Config you were able to leave gaps in the logical button assignement (ex. starting your virtual buttons from 128 downwards), don't know why they changed that.

So, how do you bind these in SC? If you flip the trigger to enter "missile mode" in the virpil software (red mode), don't you still have to push a button to enter actual missile mode in SC (i.e. to get the missiles charged and ready to lock)? I'm confusion.

Nice tutorials! Question: Does the 'shift' button have to be on the same controller? I have a VirPil stick and throttle; the throttle has a 5-pos rotary I would like to use as shift. Can that shift key command shift on the stick buttons as well?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @louieavi
      @louieavi Před rokem

Shift mode is set per each controller/panel. The 5-pos has 5 "shifts" defined by default which all your lit buttons are part of. Your throttle and stick dont know ANYTHING about each other.
Read my comment up above as Star Citizen has modes (ie mining, combat (normal) & scanning) that auto act like shift for your joy. Another words, your stick's red button or trigger can have 3 separate binds depending on the mode you are in, while in game.

@@louieavi True that the individual devices don't know anything about each other. But Virpil created the VPC Shift Tool for that purpose. You can set up the rotary button on the throttle to 5 shift states and the shift tool then communicates these to the stick. Note that the shift state from the throttle seems to take precedence over any shift state from the stick itself. I tried it out with different LED colours for the flip trigger and the throttle states, and the flip trigger colour did not show in that case.

It's extremely annoying that with one firmware update from wherever you had it...they changed Flip up AND Flip down to being Buttons 1 and 2, with 3 being the soft pull, and 4 and 5 are trigger stage 1 and 2...............
I actually really like the idea of putting on fake buttons to be a placeholder...even if you don't "add 40", this is a good rule of thumb to use so you can start logically laying things out if you ever do use a Shift state or modifier
