Stoked I just found your channel. Subbed with all notifications! 👍 FANTASTIC video. Great selection of sequences and straight Signals, modulation, running each module through it's paces. Seriously well done 👏👏👏👏👏
When you flip the switches on the voil ruina it engages and evelope follower that adjusts the control (resonance or cutoff) based on the input level I belive. There is a noise engineering video by POB which demonstrates this.
I own a c4rbn and will never leave the case, is such a good sounding filter in small footprint. Also owned the ruina but sold it as I found it to be a bit difficult to hit a sweet spot. Also worth checking spice vcf by plankton electronics. It's 6hp though but sounds wonderful and based on SEM.
Doepfer A-121-3 is also worthy - sounds great, 4Hp, more readily available than some & budget-friendly bc Doepfer cares! Its a nice “all-rounder” MS-22 is relatively close to my manhattan ma35 (which makes sense)... thats nice given its 4hp! C4RBN is so packed, as a filter its not my fave, but it has features (ping, fold/sat, multimode button switching kind of like a DJ filter, 2 pole configs...) and CV-ability to make up for that. Thanks for the vid! I like all VCFs...there should be more small ones like these! They are why I like Euro.
i need another filter. I had already bought the cinnamon but need more. I am probably going to get the Viol Ruina in addition, but its tempting to almost get a 2nd cinnamon. If you are on the fence about the cinnamon, definitely pull the trigger.
Cool filter module comparison! THX Does anybody know, how and where to get the 2nd "Forest Caver 4hp Wasp" filter module? (could not find in modular grid or in google)
Great video! Did you find the cinnamon too unpredictable and glitchy? Mine was really hard to dial in. The sound drops out at weird points in the sweep and the usable resonance range is really narrow like it could have had a three position switch instead. Also, do you have any of the 4hp doepfer modules? Also the Zlob SVF is another great 4hp
Well I like unpredictable, so for me the Cinnamon is excellent...I have 2. No, I don't have any of the 4hp Doepfer filters, just the VCOs. Wrt the Zlob, I covered that one here: czcams.com/video/2laSf1WiCMc/video.html
Hi John, major kudos to you for making this video and showcasing all these awesome modules! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for taking the time to do the demo. I am going to get the Cinnamon and Steve’s ms-22
the cinnamon is very nice designed u get lots of cvs and i love the sound
was also thinking Cinnamon, C4RBON, Steves MS-22 stood out in this list
I have a few of these filters in your vid (Viol Ruina and C4RBN) and the side by side was done really well. Thanks. Now I gotta get that MS-22!

that Threetom Steve's MS-22 is something. 👍
Thank you for your demo it was really helpful.
Cinnamon FTW!
Oh no, I'm gradually adding more to my shopping cart as this video goes on....the final 3 are all so unique.

I hear ya on the Plankton. Did a comparison with it and some other SEM filters: czcams.com/video/KsHRNZc29WY/video.html

Great “information” packed in this demo! Subbed!
Thank you so much for this. Very helpful.
You forgot to take off the gloves when you emerged from your dungeon basement.
Thanks for these vids!

doepfer a-121-3 sounds too clean. I have a pair of them.
@@DJRickDawson it’s nice if you like vanilla ice cream ;-)

Everybody needs a Cinnamon. It's small, so you can totally justify wedging it in there.
45:44 WOW! I'm buyin' it!
Hot diggety daffodil, you ain't kidding! That was intense.
wow, suprised by the picos dirty growl
It's modelled after the Polivoks filter, so it has that soviet crunch, lol
You should try out the SVF from Zlob Modular. Great little 4HP filter.
That’s the one I picked up 👀
Yup: czcams.com/video/2laSf1WiCMc/video.html
Fun. Thank you!
Surprised you didn't have one of 2hps modules in there - MMF, as an example.
Thanks bro
The ms22 sounds like it runs on diesel.
Cinnamon powered by some kind of radioactive material.
Best description ever.
Now there’s a quote to remember! :D
Yup. Pour me some diesel, Steve. Love this skinny bad wolf on first listen!
Cool filter module comparison! THX
Does anybody know, how and where to get the 2nd "Forest Caver 4hp Wasp" filter module? (could not find in modular grid or in google)
It's a DIY kit available at Pusherman.
The Wasp is missleading it is not a clone of the wasp VCF. It is not even close.

@@JohnSchussler with 2 you almost have a whole synth, thinking of doing the same
@@JohnSchussler i like it a lot cause its easy to use but most of the time i find it to harsh for my basslines
Hello John
Have you ever experienced clicking when you changed modes for filter and fold in live action?
Which module are you referring to?
@@JohnSchussler my bad, i forgot to mention c4rbn
@@chubabaify Ah. No, not that I recall.
Thank you. With open gate or also with triggered sequencer?
@@chubabaify Sorry, I don't understand your question.
presume the rubber gloves are either covering gang tattoos or straight up kinkyness?
Both good options, but no, sadly, they're just an attempt to keep my hands from being too distracting.
@@JohnSchussler i think this is more distracting. Don't be shy ;)
@@JohnSchussler I think it's cool and keeps oils off the glorious gear. Good idea.
