The same way people were “hush hush” about their finds during the gold rush so they can come back to collect more for themselves. For her, the way she grabbed herself in comfort after she realized her scream or spell didn’t work on him. How she followed him after he ran away. She was looking for comfort and love.
      In general, I think you’re right. She represented the “land” and the lake. She took revenge against the greed. I also can see a symbolization on how Mother Nature always shows us who’s boss when humans think we can dominate the land.

    I saw the siren in Jibaro as more a representation of the land rather than the people. Scores of people died trying to get to her and that is where her danger lies. When the main soldier doesn't get lured to his death, she is curious and affectionate. In his greed and annoyance, he strips her of everything he finds valuable and leaves.
    In the end, the land remains, you can't kill it no matter what you take from it, but it suffers.

      I think the whole pillaging thing is kind of overlooking the main point of the piece. Don't get me wrong, they are definitely greedy misguided pillagers but she is also a murderous monster thats killed hundreds, we don't actually know why they are there and the artist deliberately kept stuff ambiguous in regards to location and culture. The jewelry on the siren was based on different jewelry from multiple cultures around the world and shes based on a greek myth. The soldiers definitely had a strong conquistador theme but also had a lot of Germanic and Celtic design thrown in too.
      The real point of the piece is about toxic relationships. They both end up obsessed with each other but for completely shallow self serving reasons and it leads to the destruction of them both.
      Nature and land is used to make a point in the piece but not about literal land and nature, he just used land and nature to contrast the horrific toxic relationship, theres all this vanity and greed, brutal imagery that represents the horrific potential of some relationships. But its contrasted by beautiful shots of nature and the scenery, representing the beauty in whats real and often overlooked. And honestly on my first couple of watches I overlooked it too, so the point was made haha

    My interpretation of In vaulted halls entombed’s ending is this:
    I think after wasting her Ammo, Harper realized she had no easy way of killing herself (she mentioned saving a bullet for herself, which I took as her not having the stomach for using the knife to do it)
    However, the creature was already digging into her mind at this point, shouting “Release me” over and over at her. What I *Think* happened is that harper, out of desperation, cut off her ears and eyes in order to either A. Prevent herself from being able to release him or B. Try to get him out of her head. As she’s walking into the desert, I believe what she’s saying is “Release me” over and over again, but in the creature’s native language.

The scene where the spider bot fired a rat to death when it was thrown vertically to the air made Mason realize how horror is this death machine at killing. Need to mention the "Swarm"`s origin. A brilliant story by Bruce Sterling, a friend and co-writer of a much well-known Whilliam Gibson. The book shows the story wider, dr. Afriel is already genetically-modfied person, and the pocession of that top-notch genetical logostics and management system of the swarm is viable for his faction, known as "shapers". Shapers are gene-engineers, confronting "traditional" cyber-enhanced "mechanists", so Afriel accepts the proposition of the mastermind with the hope and the feeling of doom at the same time. He will be either the one who can save the his part of humanity by infiltrating and corrupting the swarm from inside, or become the power which will kill everyone, including all foes. Seems like he has a huge Herostratus complex - and the book tells it more clearly. One more thing - the old race seen in the beginning was smart and wise enough to build a blockade around the swarm, and doctor Afriel had to go undercover, breaking the law, with no any chance for a "peaceful deal" shown in the episode.

    • @jman9064
      @jman9064 Před rokem +6

      I gotta disagree with yea on this one I easily think the last episode was easily the worst due to the following. The camera work and editing, the basic story, the weird art style, and finally the lack of any dialogue with the only sound being mostly lack luster music and screaming primarily from the siren. Now the anamation is top tier never seen anything look so good it was almost uncanny, but the way they went about editing that shit pissed off they way they showed it off made my head hurt with the quickly changing camera angles and fast pace feel of the cuts and idk maybe some people like that but it gave me a headache. Next the lack of dialogue, when listening or even watching a good story I like context and I think the lowest form of art or expression is what they did here with silent symbolism. Now it might just be me again but some dialogue would have help even if it was a few words the priests and knights said about why they are there or the siren making remarks about the dead knight but somthing or better yet anything would have been better then nothing idk the first time I watch this I was angry because of how moronic and a waste of my time it was. Lastly the music choice and sound design and frankly I just hated it more due to all the female screaming now to be fair it's a pet peeve of mine the one thing I hate more then anything is woman screaming at the top of their lungs it hurts my ears and irritates me idk why but if you wanted to put me in a bad mood that's how yea do it as for the music I had some moments were I felt it fit well but over all I'm not impressed again this most likely from the point where the editing and camera work followed by constant needless screaming most likely pissed me off but I can keep my cool enough to reflect and I forced myself to watch that shit 3 times so I can say over all its trash through and through. That said I think this and the third season over all slapped hard compared to the last season and nothing I mean nothing can be worse then that god awful second season finally the drowned giant that shit still pissed me off more for how long it lasted and how boring it was I can't bring myself to watch it without wanting to claw my eyes out and cut off my ears like the woman from the lovecraft short. But idk I think alot of artist shorts have low bars and even worse story telling skills compared to others it maybe just me but the more I ask around I'm not exactly wrong even with people who are more into artistic things than me. But this was my 2 cents take it or leave I wasn't trying to be rude but I just can't easily comprehend why anyone would like what I would consider to be trash in almost every degree and that's not even me bringing up the fact the one guy is deaf and a knight but i digress il leave it there no need to get into my love of history over dumb things.

Killing human opponents would seem like the least of your concerns at that point, but he did it anyway, and continued into the cave to pursue the surviving enemies even though the hostage was already dead, which they probably used to foreshadow him being more susceptible to the Not-Old One's corrupting influence.

      these can be as short or longs as they need to be, and worlds can be created and tailor made to tell that one story.
      take Bad Traveling. The explanation that this is a space fairing society that still uses Victorian era weapons and boating is absurd, but its all the backdrop to essentially create Monster Flick.
      These shorts are also not trying to set themselves up for a sequel or a cinematic universe so they wrap up with definitive ends, whether or not that means the main character lives or dies, something else movies don't do because that means they can't make sequels if it's successful. no Hollywood studio would end Vaulted Halls Entombed with the female lead walking away mutilated, because "we need her for the sequels"

    In Vaulted Halls Entombed: there's a third possibility that you may have missed. She may have cut her eyes out so that she couldn't see, and if she can't see, she can't free the Lovecraftian creature. So, her body is on autopilot, wandering the desert with the instructions from the creature to set it free, but her body can't see to complete the task because it doesn't know where it is.
    Additional Edit: Part of the reason why I think this is mostly due to the Lovecraftian horror that the story presents. Yes, the creature doesn't look to be a member of any of the Old Ones, but typically, for the Cthulhu mythos, those that encounter such a situation are often killed or suffer a fate worse than death. And more often than not, people in such works try to end their suffering. So, in that regard, it makes sense that she was able to keep her mind about herself enough to be able to self mutilate herself in order to keep the creature from being set free while she still had control of her body.

    • @Martcapt
      @Martcapt Před rokem +26

      Although I guess she could as easily have done it to herself in her last moments of consciousness, but, then again, she could have also just killed herself (as she alluded to before).
      So I figured that was not something she did, but that was done to her... idk, it could have been clearer the ending.

    Jibaro hits the top of my list. It's crazy almost uncanny valley art style and rapid but non-sickening camera movements feel like you're in a dream. Afriel and Galina were out there as kind of a "hail Mary" strategy to find something useful, and stood to gain MAJOR rewards if they found a way to use the Swarm as a competitive advantage for their faction.
      Also, they were both gene-modded to be around 200 IQ, and had the accompanying instability and arrogance.

    I liked them all this season, honestly. But what threw me was that "Jibaro" is CG. It, to me anyway, looked extremely photorealistic and life-like. I was blown away by it. I mean, I did not let that get in the way of the mostly visual storytelling but whoever produced and animated it went above and beyond.

      This was produced by the same director and team as "Witness" from Season 1. He was also the art director for Spiderverse. Also his team famously does NOT use motion capture. The creature in 'Entomed is definitely Cthulu. My favorite this season is The Swarm. The question that I believe it posed fascinated me. What doesn't seem to be mentioned in regards to The Swarm, is that the closing sentence of the creature is that it looks forward to the conversations it will have with the doctor, while during the opening scene the other alien species said that it would miss the conversations. I'm still not sure whether this was meant to symbolically tie the first scene with the last or that this implies that this alien species was also part of the swarm.
